Worthy of his own thread now.

Elevated to a first team deal with Esbjerg fB in Denmark until the summer of 2024.

Esbjerg playing in the 2.Division currently - The one Dalton Wilkins and his Kolding IF outfit just promoted out of. But they were regulars in the Danish Superliga up until their relegation in 2019/20 with a further relegation from the 1.Division in 2021/22. The club won the DBU Pokalen in the 12/13 season.

Good luck to the lad. 👏👏👏
Excellent to see these Kiwi youngsters earning deals and cutting their teeth, both at home and abroad.

Good for him. Probably unlucky to miss out on the U20s & their WC in Argentina.

Esbjerg (4th last season) were 5 points off the promotion, spots. And yeah they have a proper big 18,000 seater stadium which is way bigger than smaller clubs like Helsingor & Kolding have in the 2nd tier.

Hopefully Obel-Hall gets plenty of game time this new season in Danish 3rd tier.

From Flying Kiwis.

More fine news in what’s shaping up to be another banger of a transfer window with 19yo forward Oscar Obel-Hall signing a senior contract with Esbjerg in Denmark. He’d been with their academy teams for the last couple seasons and now the Christchurch native has been elevated to the first team on an initial one-year contract.

Lungi Sørensen, head coach: “Oscar Obel-Hall is a physically strong attacker who also possesses a fine technique. At the same time, Oscar has a very good understanding of the game which he uses wisely to put himself into dangerous positions in the attacking areas. He has some top skills that are not always common amongst attackers and we look forward to working on at the senior level. I believe we can move further steps in the right direction.”

Makes his first matchday squad as a first teamer for a friendly with 1.Division side Sønderjyske, taking place over night tonight.

Hopefully we'll see him get some good minutes this season. 🤞

Their season proper kicks off in 3 weeks against Skive.

Good opposition, but it's likely they faced the second side, as Holstein Kiel also played 1.FC Union Berlin overnight.

Good signs for him though. Need more breakout youngsters coming through at club level, and Denmark has been good to us in that respect over the years.

Makes his competitive debut in the DBU Pokalen this morning.

Had a few sights at goal, but hasn't netted as yet.

6-1 at H/T to Esbjerg, so one would think he'll hopefully see some more chances in the second half.

Finished 8-1, but unfortunately no goal for Obel-Hall. Though reading the match report he went close a few times.

Still working to get his way into the first team by the looks this season. It will no doubt be a work in progress as the senior side have made a strong start in the 2.Division and look strong odds to be pushing for promotion come seasons end after the heartbreak of missing out last term on the last day.

Had a taste in his debut in the DBU Pokalen a couple of weeks ago with their big 8-1 win over BKHF. He has since gone on to make a couple of appearances - first for the U19 boys squad where he grabbed the winner in a 1-0 win over Randers FC U19 last week.

He also scored from close range overnight in the Future Cup (reserves) as Esbjerg weren't quite able to overcome a 3-0 deficit, eventually going down 3-2 to Odense Boldklub (OB).

Makes the matchday squad for the first time in the league as Esbjerg head the 300km East to take on Akademisk Boldklub (AB) in the 2.Division overnight.

He's already made his first team debut in the 8-1 DBU Pokalen win over Krogsbölle-Roerslev FK the other week. Fingers crossed for a league debut overnight. 🤞

League debut ✅

Subbed off at the start of the second half (1-0) but good to see him in the frame for first team minutes, especially given Esbjerg look strong contenders to win promotion given their rapid start to the season (5 wins from 5).

In the matchday squad once more for a trip to Nibe Stadion in the DBU Pokalen. They'll be taking on the Cup's lowest ranked remaining side Nibe BK, a club who ply their trade in the Danish 8th tier (😬).

Good opportunity for minutes for Oscar though, as well as a fantastic chance to try and grab a first senior goal for Esbjerg.🤞

Kickoff at 3am NZT.

Not to be unfortunately as he's subbed off just after the half hour mark due to what sounds like an injury.

For what it's worth, not quite the walkover I'd been expecting. In fact, it's still 1-1 deep into the second half...

Seems to be over an injury that forced him off early in their DBU Pokalen win the other week, and he even managed to get a full 90 with the U-19 squad overnight in a 3-2 loss to AGF Aarhus.

Found himself on the scoresheet too, taking him to 3 for the season (2 x U-19 League & 1 x Future Cup).

Hopefully will find himself back in the first team picture again before too long - With the senior side having a bit of a blip after a strong start to the season, losing 4-3 last weekend to Nykøbing, and currently down 1-0 to FA 2000 early on this evening.

Hasn't been in a Esbjerg senior match day squad all league season. Presume at 19, he's in one of their age group teams??

Esbjerg are winning the 2. Division (3rd tier) in a canter being 12 pts clear and seem destined for promotion to the Danish 2nd tier (currently same level as Wilkins & Just)

Don't think Soccerway tracks the league properly - had two league games (one start) and two cup games (one start). Had a whole lot of missed matchday squads, presumably as he's been on U19 duty - 9 games, 5 goals in the league and 3 games, 2 goals, 1 assist in the cup
