Nice carrot. The Europa League 3rd qualifying round. Final held on a National Holiday every year.

The winner will qualify for the UEFA Europa League tournament the following year, where they (as of the 2009–10 season) will enter in the third qualifying round.

The final traditionally takes place on Kristi Himmelfarts Dag (The Ascension) and it is always played in the Danish national stadium Parken. 

Attention has been brought to the fact that the final on most occasions unpractically is played before the last rounds of the league, which can open up for speculation in the benefit of losing league games at the end of the season especially for the cup runner-up if the winner is heading for the league championship.

Recently former AaB player David Nielsen claimed in his autobiography that after losing the cup final in 2004 to FC Copenhagen, he deliberately missed opportunities to score against them when AaB and FC Copenhagen met in the final league match because FCK would win the championship (and thereby the double) and land AaB in the UEFA Cup as losing cup finalists.

Nordsjælland the Danish club with strategy of recruiting young African kids, the better ones moving on to bigger clubs for a fee. They had a 21 yr old from Burkina Faso starting, and a 19 yr old from Ivory Coast on the bench.

They pushed FCK (winners by 4 pts) hard in the title race last season, when they routinely had 5-6 young West Africans in their match day squads. Two Ghanese players moved on to Rangers & Lyon in France. They have only won the Danish SuperLiga once in 2011/12.

There were some concerning visions during Silkeborg’s 1-0 loss against Nordsjælland when Callum McCowatt had to be replaced during the second half after setting himself down while the ball was still in play. A few players rushed over to check on him, teammates and opposition, with McCowatt appearing ill and in some discomfort. It’s been reported that he experienced heart palpitations, but also that he is completely fine. No word on whether he’ll be available for the next game or not.

Kent Nielsen, SIF manager: “He's fine, and as you also know, I can't stand and say so much. He was startled by something but he has been looked at and he is fine. Yes, it was [a fright], it always is. But we were also quickly told that it was OK.”
