Haka (11th/2nd last) travel to VPS (7th).

7 rounds to go before the Top 6 & Bottom 6 split. Then after the Relegation Round (bottom 6), last is relegated & 2nd last into a relegation playoff. 

Now that Haka's shortlived European adventure is over, they will be focusing on getting themselves up the table. Unfortunately Juan Lescano (ex Brisbane Roar) hasn't provided the goals Haka got from Scot, Lee Irwin last season's league GB winner.

So Haka win 2-1. Rogerson with a 19th min goal.
But at 64 mins Haka went down to 10 men (2nd yellow) & KTP equalised 14 mins later.

Rogerson off at 85 mins to be replaced by Whyte, and Haka get their 2nd goal a min later for the win.

Haka up to 10th (3rd last). They won't avoid being in the Bottom 6 when the league splits after 2 more games, but hopefully they carry some momentum into the Relegation Round to avoid the drop.
Last automatically relegated with 2nd Last into a relegation playoff.

However Haka (8th) are on a 6 game unbeaten run, now 9 points above the relegation spots. They will have a UEFA Conference League Playoff spot to play for. Goes to the team in 7th after Relegation Round completed.

Haka (8th) travel to Oulu (7th). Last game of the season, and doesn't look like Haka will be involved in any UEFA Conference League Play-off games. Nikko Boxall's Inter Turku (6th) likely will though.

Rogerson has scored twice this season in league games. 4 goals last season. It also feels like his assist production is down this year. He seemed to provide many more assists in 2022, when Haka had Scot Lee Irwin banging them in.

Whyte 1 goal this season, after 2 goals in 2022.

To recap: it was a terrible season for FC Haka in 2023, hence changes have been afoot. In has come a new manager, Englishman Andrew Smith, and with him several new players. Logan Rogerson was released amidst all that... but Ollie Whyte, despite not having a contract, was allowed to continue training with the club.

Now for the fresh update, because you know what? Whyte started their opening League Cup group game, a 0-0 draw against Oulu. He was one of three trialists in the squad – the League Cup in Finland is treated very much like glorified preseason (you may recall Gianni Bouzoukis getting minutes for Salon Palloilijat as a trialist this time last year. So nothing has changed as far as his situation goes. But we can now see that they’re serious about giving him the chance to earn a new deal. Here’s what the gaffer had to say about his trial trio...

FC Haka head coach Andrew Smith: “They performed well. They have adapted well, maintained their levels, and showed a professional attitude.”

Sweet as. Note that Whyte seemed to play as a centre-forward which is different to how he was used last year under the previous boss. He played almost the full game, subbed off right near the end. Two good chances for him in there: one he struck wide on the spin early on, a snapshot that he looked disappointed not to bury; the other a shot saved near post by the keeper after a smart run off the shoulder had taken him a little too wide. Definitely had that preseason feel about it. They’ll have four more group so see how it goes.

Assisted the 2nd goal in that win as well. A quick counter after play was broken up in the middle of the park.

Hopefully he continues to see good minutes this season. He'll need to impress if he's looking for an additional contract come the pointy end of the season.

Cost of living in Finland is pretty high. A beers costs about 7.00€ for starters
