Now 36, his last year playing at a decent level was in 2021 at Klubi 04 (the reserve team of HJK Helsinki), in the Finnish 2nd tier. He was also an assistant coach to the club's U14 team. He actually helped Des a little bit, in the lead up to the 2019 U20 WC.
Probably about right that €30,000-€40,000 range. Logan Rogerson would have been on 55-65k NZD roughly and was amongst the highest earners at his club during his time there.
You don't go there to get rich. You go there for the opportunities.
Here's Whyte's assist from the other morning btw.
The old Suomen Cup (🇫🇮) doesn't get too much coverage down this part of the world, but there is still a Kiwi flying the 🇳🇿 flag over in Scandinavia this season.

30 year old ex Nixer Dylan Fox starts for Lahti.
Not the most memorable of ex Nix players, but did have 3 seasons in Welly. Then CCM, and then 3 years in India's ISL.

Luke Ivanovic, ex SFC, Roar & Glory on Lathi's bench.

Niche Cache is right, very slick.

But yeah probably needs to at least be a regular starter in the Finnish league - not the greatest standard. He did trial at the Nix a few years ago.
I wonder what has happened to David Browne? Doesn't seem to be playing football anymore. Still only 28, and was a regular at Finland's biggest club HJK for 3-4 seasons.

Looks like he had a penalty saved and scored on the followup??
Was playing as a lone striker, so presume Haka have some injuries.
Haka were leading 4-1 at 85 mins.
3 goals and 8 assists in 13 games across the Veikkausliiga, Liiga Cup & Suomen Cup.
Bumped by goals (2) and assists (6) in the cup games, but he needs to keep making every post a winner given he's only on a one year deal this term.
So far, so good. 👍
Whyte's (no 77) goal about 2 mins into the video. He wins the pen as he tripped up, has it saved by the Oulu keeper, but it's palmed straight back to him to put into an empty net.
Haka with heavily tattooed North Irishman manager (Andrew Smith) who goes for a Conor McGregor look. Four African guys in their starting lineup, they also have a young guy on loan from Fulham's U21 side (he's played a bit with Dibley-Dias)

Busy game for Ollie Whyte this week:

Won a penalty
Took the penalty
Missed the penalty
Scored from the rebound
Set up another goal later on

No Whyte. Was subbed off in the prior game, so an injury perhaps.
AW stocks are a bit thin for Nations Cup, so he might even be one of those on standby.
Would he be good enough for the ALM? He's 24 now.
Trialled at the Nix, under Talay, but not picked up. One of the last non Academy Kiwis they have seriously looked at.
Not always a starter for his middling Finnish league (considered a step down from the ALM by most) club. Though he's had a good run of games lately at Haka, mostly as a striker/false 9??
Get the feeling Auckland will use a few import slots on their attacking players/midfielders. Have already got in Howieson, Randall & Mata. Sounds like Louis Toomey is signed up. Ollie Middleton (Auckland United), Finn McKenlay (Eastern Suburbs) and Troy Putt (Birkenhead) all rumoured signings from the Northern League.
Whyte one of the nearly men of the NZ football scene. Missed out on the Tokyo Olympics, missed out on the Nix.......Unsuccessful short stints in Portugal & Turkey. Maybe he's been a bit luckless until now

yeah. just wondering if Akld need to pad out their squad, it could be kiwi youngsters or oz journeymen. Olli could be a different option but unlikely
