Yep I would go along with your comment LondonChris (a mini World Cup) - judging by the players who started and subbed in, Colin still looks to be experimenting with the combinations etc. At least they now know what they are up against and any realistic expectations can be made - lets hope they come up to scratch before August!
Pre - U17 World Cup
I've just discovered that the U17 All Whites are playing in an
8-team warm-up tournament here in Korea. I know they're playing
Japan on Tuesday in Changwon, and will be getting along, but can't
find details of any other games.
I've tried the KFA, New Zealand Football, FIFA websites with no luck.
Can anyone else help?
Cheers

Story about the Haiti team going to this tournament.

Anyone know how they got on against Nigeria. Footballnz advised me
to keep an eye on their website to see the results.

New Zealand lost 2-1 in an end to end entertaining game. Nigeria
scored after 15 minutes and had the better of the
play for the first 30. NZ came into the game and could have
equalised on 2 or 3 occassions before half time.NZ could and should
have had a penalty in the first 5 minutes from a push in the box.
NZ scored 2 minutes into the second half from a corner when
defender Nick Corliss volleyed home from a flick header, and
then dominated for the next 15 minutes until Nigeria went 2-1 up in
the 59th from a quick counter. NZ battled till the end and came
close with the last kick of the game, but the
Nigerian keeper held onto the ball under pressure. Very
vocal crowd of about 15,000 with a strong african contingent
chanting and playing drums throughout. It made for a fantastic
atmosphere. The boys performed the Haka after the game which
was well received by those still in the stadium. Nigeria
certanly bigger, faster and very impressive and not shy at going
down when breathed on. The ref let them get away with murder. The
stretcher would have been called for about 20 times during the
game, not once for a NZ player.

The boys have now moved to Changwon getting ready
for tomorrow nights game against Japan, 7pm ko (10pmNZ).
Japan beat the USA 1-0 with a last minute goal in the other game.
Neither team looked world beaters. The organisation and eye for
detail here is amazng. Emaculate facilities and organisation all
around. National flags up and down the roads on power poles, large
banners in the streets etc. The boys have been well looked after by
the hosts. NZ could learn a lot from this.
Brazil looked good in their win against South Korea, however
Korea missed at least 4 good chances through poor finishing. Brazil
great upfront and in the middle of the park but suspect at the
back. Typical Brazil really.
Will update on this link after the game tomorrow
night
Thanks for this info. See here for footballnz report.

Long may it continue and lets get in behind the Nix!
Did any one stand out in the game?
Who knows, maybe the nix should look at a under 17 not
20!!!
I wonder what the result of the Japan v New Zealand game was?
Ollie are you back at the hotel yet? Or maybe he is out
celebrating???
Hi guys. Unfortunatly not out celerbrating. A 3-0 loss to the boys
in a dissapointing game by the playing standards they set against
Nigeria. NZ struggled to match the passion and intensity of the
Japanese in the first half which ultametley was their downful. The
Japanese were more committed to the tackle and moved the
ball at pace which we struggled with.
They opened the scoring in the 25th minute with a freekick on
the edge of the box after a giveaway in the central 1/3rd. dubious
whether it was a freekick in the first place but it was well taken
and struck into the bottom corner of Michael
O'Keefes goal. they then scored again in the 38th from a
fierce drive from a tight angle after another give away in
midfield. NZ came out in the second half more committed and picked
up 4 yellow cards for over zealous tackles, 2 of them fair enough,
but couldn't finish the number of opportunities that came their
way. a combination of good defending, japenese luck and
questionable officiating prevented this. The japanese scored their
third in the 93rd minute, which mentally destroyed the kiwis.
having chased the ball so much in the first half and
conceeding 2 goals, the mountain was just to much to
climb. Japan are a well drilled side who play quick 1-2 passes in
and around the defensive 1/3 with a lot of off the ball movement.
dissapointing crowd of about 1000 in a 37,000 stadium. not
known as football city. In the other game Nigeria bet the US 2-1 in
a dull game. Nigeria never really got out of second gear.
The team now heads to Ulsan to play the US. Will try and get a
camera to get some footage.

Sorry guys, no footage either. Ollie pretty much sums match up.
Ollie, sorry I didn't run into you. Enjoy the rest of the
tournament.
Thanks Ollie.

Any news on the USA game? It has to be our best chance of a result.
Hi
We lost 1-0 to USA tonight. The boys had a much improvrd performance on the previous game against Japan

Bummer! Thanks Dice
yeah 1-0 loss but the boys put in a fantastic second half
performance. the goal came in the 25th minute from a defensive
error. It looked like all the players who hadn't played or started
the other games got a start and most stood up to the job. the game
was played in a wonderful stadium, infront of a dissapointing but
vocal crowd. Nigeria beat Japan 5-0 in the earlier game.
Nigeria play Brazil in the final and Korea play Japan in the
3rd/4th play off on saturday
Yay im going to this now cant wait!!!
As a parent or spectator cos if you are as a spectator do you have
any more money to take anymore LOL....
