Yesterday was Marist/Suburbs. Not sure why I went but I did. Lousy day.  Average game. One of the Marist players clearly should be playing for a bigger club like Barca or similar (in his own mind!). I was fascinated that someone making so LITTLE contribution to his team's effort spent so much time "admonishing" his team mates....   c'est la vie.

Saturday I went to the Lower Hutt / Stop Out match. Now that's what you pay you money for (well, if you had to pay.) It was a great game. Both teams made REAL 100% effort. Stop Out's goal was a great header, Shawn Stringfellow, from a great ball. Shawn later got sent off. Consensus seemed to be that it was just one of those things. Last man back and trying to win the ball.
Comedy moment. Ref Jim Murphy took a throw in. I swear one of the Lower Hutt players shaped to the take the ball and run with it.
Not so comedic. One of the Lower Hutt players indulged in what in cricket terms is "sledging".

sledging? care to elaborate? I've heard my fair share of banter during games, some of it in good taste....some of it not.....but yes to 2nd your thoughts on the game it was pretty dam good. To be fair the sending off probably sealed a point for Stop Out as Beeza would have tucked the 1 on 1 away nicely before being unceremoniously AXED! James McPeake in goal for Lower Hutt is 16 and is a weeky highlight for us supporters (aka injured players who can't play).

I played for Marist against Wests and I think saying that one of our players was admonishing our team while hardly making a contribution is a pretty harsh call.

Everyone in our team gave their best yesterday, but Wests were the better team, which kinda makes sense seeing as they are 2 divisions higher than us.

And as for players admonishing our own team....i don't really know what you were watching, compared to some of the stuff i've heard from other teams, and having been with these guys all year, i know that the team spirit in the Marist team is a darn side better than a lot of other teams.

Instead of giving so much stick, maybe you could just be a bit more supportive, you know...make a positive contribution instead of admonishing people

Read my post again. I wasn't slating the TEAM. I came down to see you guys play above yourselves and I believe you did. That's what cup ties are about. You kept plugging away and the effort was evident. I was just mystified by the attitude of that one guy.

I watched the game yesterday also - and Marist can hold their heads up high - it was a sterling effort - their only downside was that perhaps in the last 20 the seemed to tire and run out of ideas, but up till then they continued to take the  game to Wests  even though they were behind.
At the end of the day Wests are 2 Divs above Marist and it showed - their strength and poise on the ball  compared to Marist  was obvious  and they deserved their win, but I think Marist,  to give them credit, gave Wests a good run for their money.

And I think i know who you are talking about...but I only heard one real instance of negativity from him and when you are down 3-0 people are going to get frustrated, so I still feel it is a bit harsh to single him out, as I said I've heard far worse in other teams....I know he gave everything he could in the game.

But I do thank both you and ginger for the compliments for team, and we do appreciate both you and everybody else who came down to watch. Hey, we don't get a lot of neutrals just coming down to watch a Marist game for the hell of it, especially not in the shi*te conditions that wellington managed to produce
