Ive watched the first two games on sky and i have to say i am totally dissapointed and frustrated at the Low crowd volume, you nearly couldnt even hear any of the fans celebrating the goals. Thus taking away about all atmosphere left (with the boring commentator being the only thing you hear...)
ive sent a support question to sky asking if they can contact their supplier about this problem as sky themselves cant really do much about it. Its the only thing we can really do so if your with me i wanna try get as many of you guys as i can to send in your frustration questioning the crowd volume so maybe just maybe they will be able to sort it out.

you can contact them by

http://skytv.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/skytv.cfg/php/enduser/ask.php?p_sid=siBsNI5j&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=

or alternativly use the live support chat (which is unavaliable i think)

It's just awful - no atmosphere & god knows where they drag up those commentators from.

Still, it could be worse - ESPN & Tommy Smyth.

I aslo struggled to hear the wistle at time.  I hate only having one commentator.  You need at least two so it doesnt sound so boring

I also find it disappointing that you can't really hear the national anthems as well. Shame, I guess, but it could be worse...

Completely agree.... It was quite frustating not being able to pick up the atmosphere especially when they scored. Oh well I'll drop them a line

I watched the replays this morning and for the second half in the Portugal-Turkey match the commentary could not be heard - all you could hear was the crowd.

Faced the same problems as discussed above. Frustrating when they lower the crowd volume,it definitely kills the atmosphere.Just like watching rugby..

Commentator was typically English, any opportunity to mention the most tenuous link between the players and countries and English teams or results against England will be taken.

ANd you wonder why Scots hate watching these tournaments on the BBC & ITV!

How could reception make the crowd go louder?

Im watching Germany Vs Poland on a streamed feed from Romania. (best picture -commentary is gibberish for some reason ) The crowd volume is fine, i think it all depends on the mic set up at each stadium.

And commentators like Derek Rae are great.

He personifies the word boring.

Just about to post a thread complaining about this sh*t coverage, AGAIN. I'd rather have ESPN. So  Sky have f**ked it up again - 1 boring, mono-tone commentator with virtually no crowd volume and no half time coverage. What a heap of sh*t

Before the kickoff of the Portugal vs. Turkey game they were just showing scenes from the crowd and the sound coming from the crowd was fine up until the teams just about started walking onto the pitch. You could hear them turn it down when the commentary began.

Defintely. Its fine if your watching a whole match but If your dropping in and out of it then its kinda hard to grasp whats happening..

That's precisely why - they want people to watch the whole game, not go channel surfing during 'boring' bits.

Yeah but what about for those of us at the other end of the world when all games take place at early hours of the morning?

Unfortunately, we are not the target audience. The target audience is in Europe, and they don't want them to tune in and out just to keep tabs on the score. We just have to put up with it.

Both ITV and BBC coverage include score and time captions in the corners. Explain that?

They're English? All I know, pay TV channels in Croatia never show the score and time during live football matches, and if I remember correctly it was the same deal in Germany.
Guess different broadcasters have different policies when it comes to this.

I feel it may have been the same for EURO 2004 but wouldn't bet a lot on it...

I disagree. Setanta is worth the extra 30 and the sooner it is out here the better,

One thing the presentation of Euro 2008 does show is that there is nothing wrong with just having one decent commentator that knows his stuff. All this so-called "expert comments" crap from a washed up old pro who, in most cases couldn't cut it in management/coaching (and therefore doesn't really have the nous to actually analyse) is unnecessary.

And as for SKY NZ's penchant (blindly following league etc) for having a comments man at pitch level, well that is shown to be the ridiculous "jobs for the boys" exercise that it really is. Drop it all and get Gordon Irving commentating, with maybe Harry Ngata there before the game to talk to.

It depends on what channel you're watching. I have noticed that SkySports1 has the clock up, but for the exact same match coverage on SS3 (i.e. the later games) there has been no clock display. Bizarre.

Still, I don't see it as a big deal.
