TVNZ...
I love my Rugby League but do we care if the Bulldogs pumped the roosters 38-6? I know Sonny Bill is a kiwi but is this more newsworthy (or take priority) to the AWs in the under 20s world cup?? ggrr
I have had a look on the TVNZ website and have found this article.

It looks like TVNZ on freeview are going to highlight and reply all the U-20 games. Maybe this is also a place where they could put Phoenix highlights.
I know they have been rough, but I guess this is a platform that they can show football on.
What I dont get it, is how you could argue that the Americas Cup would give the country better exposure than the Football World Cup.

Notsure - I remember watching an interview with the Sports Minister a few years ago. Winton Rufer was also in the interview. Rufer was asking the minister why it was that football is the number one participation sport in New Zealand, yet number 12 for government funding. The minister just fluffed around without responding.

Most people I work with who like rugby and dislike football will admit that the oft-used excuse of diving etc is just that - an excuse to justify an opinion they already hold. Their opinions are valid as their own, but diving is a bit of a red herring. If you watch much football, you'll find that it is not as common as football-phobes like to claim, especially outside of the Latin countries. I normally rebutt with not liking rugby partly because I don't like watching players stick fingers up each other's bums!

By the way, I f**king hate sailing but there is good reason for the tax payers money being used towards it.
Here are some figures:
Figures
$34 million: Amount injected into ETNZ by NZ government for the campaign just gone
$ Undisclosed: Sponsorship from Toyota, Emirates, Estrella Damm (Lion Nathan breweries) and other companies
$85 million: Amount injected into the New Zealand economy by the Team NZ challenge over the 2003-07 period, with a related 540-830 jobs.
$22 million: Amount Team NZ paid in PAYE as of May. That, combined with tax paid by contractors, means the initial $34 government million investment had been paid in full.
NZ Sports Minister Trevor Mallard said 55 Kiwi companies had hosted almost 600 people from 160 companies at events in Valencia, promoting New Zealand technology, products and services to high-value offshore business contacts and international audiences.
Helen Clark said there had been "months of unprecedented, high profile publicity" which was good for every part of the economy. Putting a price on the amount of publicity and the price of being perceived as being right up there with great design, determined people - I think it's immeasurable and I'm satisfied it's been a good taxpayer investment."
Though I do find it funny how most of the world couldn't give two tosses about sailing. More people care about rugby than the America's Cup, I would say.
