I tried, but the person taking the picture didn't understand
Yup. Was at the front of the Fever zone on Sunday
I'm surprised my team didn't make me take the hat off
Just looked at the full slide show, I know where I'm going on my next big trip. I've always been a bit nervous about Egypt though isn't it kind of dangerous for women? or am I being naive?
edit: I'm surprised you made it back dressed like that. Mind you Lawrence of Arabia was quite popular no?Great photos
Egypt is pretty safe for women. One of the guides said it was the most westernised Muslim country, whereas the Saudi team had a completely different viewpoint on women.

You took your desert storm no? Hope it made it home?
It was for an international programming competition, so mainly guys. I think there was 4 girls competing, out of around 300 competitors.
Is there a photo of the Phoenix flag on the Phoenix??
Next time put it on top of the pyramid!
There's a Phoenix in Egypt? Why couldn't we visit it?kickme2008-10-29 16:20:20

Egypt is very cool and quite safe. The company I work for has an office in Cairo so I've been there several times with no problems. Check this out:
Highly recommend a visit and I can suggest some things to see and do while you're there.

Oh, I left the flags in the bus for the Sphinx. My team was getting annoyed...
when i went there we weren't part of a tour group or anything, just did our own thing. i have to say, the egyptian people on the whole were pretty horrible. they look to exploit and rip you off at every opportunity, were very rude and constantly asked for money. as for women, i wouldn't want to travel there as a solo woman, didn't feel like the safest sort of place when you're walking round the streets.

That'll be a spoonerism from memory. Too many Pharoahs and a Sphinx - easy mistake.
Phoenix in Egypt
I have recently returned from Egypt. One of the places we went to was the pyramids. I had Phoenix flags, a YF desert storm and a camera to prove it.
More pictures!
And if anyone cares, here's the flickr set from my trip.kickme2008-10-28 07:51:04

I've heard it said that the Great Pyramid at Giza took 20 years and 100,000 slaves to build. Something for those who complain about lack of success in Season 2 to bear in mind.
I still say that Great Pyramid is too sqaure at the back!

You are almost certainly being ripped off every time you spend money.
If you can accept that fact and get over it then you can just enjoy the experience. I took the "Hey, I'm in the desert, riding a camel, looking at the pyramids, farken brilliant" point of view. I knew I was being ripped off but it wasn't too expensive.
I wasn't on an organised tour either, I had a day off from work so I went to the concierge in the hotel and said "How do I get to the Pyramids?". He knew a taxi driver who knew a guy who ran camel (or doneky) tours out at Giza.
Actually, my tour guide was bloody good cause he was telling me how to avoid the hawkers and rip off merchants when I was wandering around the Pyramids.

This is quite possibly the best post I've ever read. I can't stop laughing.

never said i didn't enjoy it but getting hassled for money at every turn gets a bit tedious. amazing things to see, but the people are pricks pretty much. we walked to the pyramids from our accomm which was like 7km or something, basically fending off people trying to get us in taxis the whole way.
went to plenty of other places in egypt, not just cairo and it was the same everywhere. but again had an awesome time and loved it, just got frustrated at the people.
also, anyone else go to the museum in cairo? clearly none of the tourism money goes into the upkeep. rattiest, dustiest, most unstructured museum with some awesome stuff to look at. i'm pretty sure they haven't even changed the labels from back inthe 20's or whenever.
Sounds like avoiding the daily charity collecters outside Countdown or Pak N Save. When are all these charities gonna help me? Give me something? It's like a bloody obsticle course sometimes.
(Canteen, Wellington Free Ambulance, Life Flight Trust & Cancer related organisations exempted)

Spent 10 days in Eqypt after travelling in Lebanon, Syria and Jordan. The ever-present hawkers were a drag but ignoring them is easy. Always keep some small notes handy to hand out to the pests that demand something for nothing. The main tourist places are the worst - Cairo, Luxor, Aswan. Dahab less so. As a blonde you'll get the occasional hiss from locals but just ignore - you get a pretty toughy skin - i know my wife did. If you're planning a trip down the Nile I'd avoid the 3- or 4-day felucca trips - everyone I know who did it spent half the time either being sick or with the sh*ts. Try on of the small cruise ships - ours had a pool up on deck as well as a bar and was only marginally more expensive than the felucca.
Enjoy.
