about Brockie - isnt he stil tied to Sydney FC this season which
will rule him out?? im not so sure about him..his touch is lackin
somewhat. perhaps just needs more time to develop his game and
mature. i saw a good opportunity that opened up in the 1st half of
the mexico game with options to his left and right...he went right
but hit it way too hard and it went dead.
Released at the end of last season.
Sam Jenkins was our right midfield
Who was our right mid anyway?
Will be interesting to see if Spoonley does sign! Wonder if he had any offers or interest from Europe?
I think Roydhouse's mullet would draw enough cult fans to make up
for his lack of technical ability.

I still haven't seen all of the NZ v Mexico game yet, but I think
Sam Jenkins did a pretty fine job. He was creative in a team
that was lacking in that area a little, he took on the Portugas
with the ball at his feet and he had a good work rate.
Positive player.
Stand Out Un20's
Who should be looked at by overseas clubs?
My top 5
Boxall - read the game well, hard as nails.
Spoonly - excellent positioning, made no mistakes, good
reation saves.
Draper - excellent running off the ball (work rate) very good
in the air, holds the ball well
Keat - Good off bot hfeet - did create a couple chances.
Brockie - has experience - misses a sitter, but had a couple
efforts saved, set up team mates with good oppotunities, worked
hard.
Worst 5
Roydhouse - lack of skill evident for a wide player, poor
crossing.
Our R/m never really involved.
Peverly - non existant up to the last game. not good enough
for a cm.
Ian hogg - can't pass to save himself.
Stu Jacobs - to negative, it showed him on the side line
telling his players off for passing and not taking it long. Tactics
againts Gambia - went out to defend, shown by his 20th minute
subbing of Pev for Draper... realised now he'd have to score two,
not poach 1.
Add Shcaffers to your worst list.
Agree with your top 5.

Apart from that I would have to agree with TouchMe (dodgy name
by the way). Spoonley was a standout, Draper a revelation and
Boxall was a real workhorse.
I wonder which will be snapped up by other clubs and when
Ricki will be announcing his U20 players.
Boxall, Jenkins, Spoonley and Draper were ur best players by a mile
they all looked comfortable at that level!!
I don't know about all looking comfortable at that level. I'd say
only Spoonley stood out the others had their moments but couldn't
get the better of any of their opposition midfielders for a
sustainable amount of time.
I watched most of the Mexico game, i dont know the players too well
but the guy on the right made some good runs, not afraid to beat
his man and some good skill shown. Boxall hard as a rock.
I have to agree with the person in this thread about Stu Jacobs...all he does is try to make excuses etc in post match interviews. i hate long balls...number 1 rule..keep it to feet!!!
Much better 2nd half than 1st half. few more chances created.

Keat shud be added to worst 5!!!
What is he gud at???
The answer....Nothing!!!
Bollocks player........... disgrace not having Michael White,
Michael Madden, or George Barbarouses in that team!!!
Cunningham is better than Keat also
Released at the end of last season.
Thought Keats workrate was outstanding - quality passing throughout
the team was lacking I thought.
Spoonley, Boxall, Pelter, Keat, Edgington, Draper were my
picks.
i guess workrate is going to win you games at u20s is it??
My point was that he was far from the worst player on the pitch - our passing more than anything let us down and all of them were guilty of that at some point.
PROAK2007-07-10 22:05:54
Keats name keeps coming up throughout the threads. He seemed to
pass the ball without losing it, cross it in to where it should be,
not panic, keep his head.
U are joking man!!!
Keat was shocking and kept giving it away when under no
pressure!!!
Now this is the last time I post about Keat coz the guy was a
joke in fact alot of people who are gengas are embarrassed to be
associated with such a pathetic player...fancy him being our
captain!!!
Captain of Joke United!!!
Top 5
Spoonley
Boxall
Peters
Brockie
and Draper
Gud bye for now!!!

Article about U20 signings
Who was our right mid anyway?
I thought Keat worked hard but his distribution was quite wasteful
at times. I thought Boxall was an immense presence, but like the
rest of the Kiwis defence was found wanting a bit at times by the
guys with pace. Draper did look impressive for a 17 year old, but
if he wants to kick on he has to be more clinical in front of goal,
has good pace though. I thought Brockie looked to have improved a
little bit, he had a few good passes, but if he wants to play up
front he has to work on his finishing, personally i think he
is better playing wide and running at defenders. I thought the
fullbacks and Edgington looked a bit out of their depth and
Roydhouse didn't really impress, especially at set-pieces. I
thought New Zealand would realise it would be an uphill battle for
them to get results so they would work really hard on set pieces,
but they were really quite disjointed at times. Overall good effort
lads, I tried not to diss the Kiwis too much because they did their
best I'm sure.
Will be interesting to see if Spoonley does sign! Wonder if he had any offers or interest from Europe?

Not being a cynic, but how was Jeremy Brockie one of the
better players in the NZ side at the U-20 tournament?
Nope. Like my mate said "People with haircuts like that
shouldn't be allowed to play". I nodded my head in agreement.
so who is gonna step up for the Phoenix for pre-season? Anyone
betting on Spoonly or Draper? Feverish2007-07-12 23:03:25
Spoonley is going to England for 2 weeks, well at least his parents are
He going via Gosford then ?
Possibly Im not sure whats the go. I want him to
sign as much as the next person, Ive even asked
him to sign but during a WBA trial he only just
missed out and that was a couple of seasons ago. I say
hes going to Europe or the States
for sure keat and spoonley
I agree. Sam Jenkins played well and was prepared to take on
the defenders. He made some good runs and got in
some decent crosses too.
[QUOTE=pao1908]Not being a cynic, but how was Jeremy
Brockie one of the better players in the NZ side at the U-20
tournament?
I've said it before, but apart from Brockie missing a
couple of sitters, his all round play was pretty good. He
seemed comfortable at that level and was able to read the game
well. Yes, he may have overcooked one or two passes,
but most of the time his passing was quality.
I would definitely have him in our top 5. Perhaps, the
fact that he's played for the Knights and Syndey FC we are too
quick to knock him. A bit of the tall poppy syndrome I suspect. I'd
prefer to see us NZ fans channel our energy into willing the guy
on more. (But like that would ever happen).
i think yugoboss is to harsh on keat! he has talent and yeah he did
give ball away but he worked his arse off and has the skills to
represent new zealand in future years! remember nz are not going to
beat teams with a superiortechnical game, so we have to try and
compete with heart and aggression! draper, spoonley and henderson
were quite good? barboroses should have been there though!!
ok guys i was at the nz games (2 of them) during the u20 world cup
and keat was amazing even though he gave a few balls away. the kid
is a workhorse and he never gives up and deserves that captains
armband for sure. i would be proud to have him play for my team. he
has major potential. also spoonley was great in goal
I watched the Gambia and Mexico games, Spoonley seemed the only
decent player, and maybe Draper as well. What was with Brockie's
finishing??
