ye he did look good much better player then Brockie however as we all know NZ football does not go by skill it goes by what kind of name u have. Since Brockie was lucky enough to have played for the knights and god knows sydney FC he will likely get that under 20s spot unfotunetely. I totally agree that Spoonley was the player of the tournament he was really good, but thats quite sad putting a goalkeeper player of the tournament. But really no one else played very well. Purcell was also good today.

I remember him having a huge game against Team Welly in one of those last two NZFC matches last season as well.

The NZ U20's finished 22nd out of 24 teams in the World Cup in the end.

As Canada and Scotland loss all their games too, but ended up with a worst goal difference.

I think experience whys. Hes played for Team Welly for a while and was very good. Played in america a bit. But ye who else was there? I thought spoonley should be but i guess only the team will know whos the best leader. Im not too sure only know a few of the players. All i gotta say is nz footballs based on who u know not how good u r. Caz there were players that should have made that team that werent there!

Thats funny. I thought I heard one of the commentators laughing in the back ground, during the game against Gambia. They must have thought we were sh*t!

Also at half time in the mexico game, the commentators on the fifa game were chatting live when they thought they were off line. One commentator was appoligising to the other for having to be watching the nz vs mexico game. he asked if the gambia game was any better.

After watching all 3 game under 20 world cup game it is clear that our 3 best players are Jenkins, Boxall and Draper + Spoonley is a quality goalkeeper! Jenkins was easily our most dangerous player on attack he just didnt get the ball enough in the Gambia game and even in the other 2 games,  against Mexico and Portugal he showed he has the skills and technical ability to beat any of there defenders on the dribble how about his roll back then flick nut meg against the Mexico defender in  the 1st half was quality! Boxall is a super athlete he looks fast fit and strong and didnt look out of place at all in this world cup! and draper seemed to have a goof first touch and eye for goal which I liked! There 3/4 players can should easily be playing professionally somehwere! Will there be an Olympic team this year cause surely these guys would be in it!

That game was an absolute class showing from NZ, considering how many people were saying they shouldn't even be at the tournament and how they would finish last, not score a goal, etc.. They deserve all the credit in the world for fighting so hard against a much better mexican team in a stadium containing mostly mexican fans.

Spoonley was definitely the standout, making several huge saves when no one could've expected him to, and he really can't be faulted for either of the goals. Pelter played a very good game and so did Brockie I'd say. Roydhouse was also a standout, but mostly because of his incredibly stylish mullet.

I'd say of the 32 000 fans at the game, maybe 100 were NZ supporters, with the rest being either mexicans or canadians. I spotted one woman wearing an Auckland City shirt and a few AW jerseys in the crowd but they were largely drowned by the sea of green and spanish chanting. I was delighted that the AW's did a haka after the game, but annoyed that I had to explain to my friends what a haka was. I think the majority of the fans realised the significance of their performance and gave them a good response in the end.

That was a fun game to be at. I just wish the Canada/Congo game didn't suck so much...
