coz theres no football and the nix are taking thier pre season to china, instead of playing infront of thier home fans.
It's a pointless debate - there's no objective standrad that can be used to resolve it, barring combining the two leagues together and have them slug it out over 78 weeks.
I liked it when Barca spanked Man U in the CL final.
1st August. Emirates cup . then we will see!
Atleti would tear Arsenal apart!! Seriously though, I think its a pretty close call between the two leagues.
I have a problem with sorting out strengths of the league based on European performance, and within a set number of years. You can't judge the strength of a league based purely on performances of its strongest clubs, and setting a time period is just arbitrary.
The only way your can settle the differences between the two leagues are by how their respective clubs performance against other clubs from other european leagues especially against each when an EPL club plays against an La Liga club. The idea of including a time period of 5 years is that professional players at their peak performance tend to be able to have their highest performance for about 5 years on average. And only the strongest clubs are the representation of the best of the league has to offer and only those clubs are able to have access to european competitions. Unless there is a head to head competition with number one club of one league plays the no.1 club of the other and no.2 vs no.2 and 3rd vs 3rd placers etc, then there is no practical measure.
Their way of measuring is as good as it gets, tbh.
2-1 to the gunners today

28 votes is surely enough to guarantee accuracy.

Superior League
Ronaldo was unveiled to Madrid fans today, in his speech he said,
"Both leagues are going to be very good but I think that with Real president Florentino Perez's signings the Spanish league is superior to the English"
I'd beg to differ...

I think over the last few seasons it has undoubtedly been the EPL. Just look how many of the Champs League semi finalists have come from the EPL in the past few seasons. Also I feel the La Liga is really a big 2 where as the EPL is a big 4, will put that down to how TV revenue is split in La Liga.
However, drops in the pound and new higher tax rate in England and the low foreign person tax (whatever it is called) in Spain will shift the balance to La Liga. Also, most Latin American and Iberian Peninsula players are more likely to be fans of La Liga and its clubs while the EPL is big in Africa, Asia and Northern Europe. Unfortunately most of the worlds best players come from Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula.

The Premier League has a lot more depth than the SPL. There are only really Madrid and Barca who can challenge the big 4 EPL teams. Valencia have been in the past few years but with their financial situation it looks unlikely they are going to challenge. The EPL is watched much more around the world. While presently Barca and Madrid may be better than the top EPL teams, the lower teams are not better than their EPL counterparts
Premiership vs La Liga by league position last season
Man Utd - Barcelona
Liverpool - Real Madrid
Chelsea - Sevilla
Arsenal - Atletico Madrid
Everton - Villarreal
Aston Villa - Valencia
Fulham - Deportivo
Tottenham - Malaga
West Ham - Mallorca
Man City - Espanyol
Wigan - Almeria
Stoke - Racing Santander
Bolton - Athletic Bilbao
Portsmouth - Sporting Gijon
Blackburn - Osasuna
Sunderland - Valladolid
Hull - Getafe
Newcastle - Betis
Middlesbrough - Numancia
West Brom - Recreativo
England 7-9 Spain. 4 draws.
That's my take on it anyway.

That's not too far off Buffy - if we're looking at Real Madrid now and Liverpool (rather than 4 months ago), they're lot closer.
I'd also say Villarreal->Everton, and Valladolid->Sunderland. Don't think Mallorca better than West Ham.

I vote for Spain
because it is much nicer football to watch
unless Arsenal is playing, of course
I hope Obafemi Martins finds a team that we can see on NZTV

So says Ronaldo, who moves from Manchester United (UEFA 2009 4th ranked club) to Real Mardid (UEFA 2009 13th ranked club).

Well check out the links . . . . they are fairly reasonable objective method.

La Liga is 2nd but EPL is 1st because of the last two years strong showing in the CL and EL but just as the UEFA Team Ranking 2010 oefficients take in the last 5 years.
FC Barcelona is ahead by a long shot but then the next 4 places are taken up by the big 4 EPL CL teams, before Sevilla coming in 6th and then the first Italian team AC Milan in 7th follow by the German and Italian teams in the top 10s.AllWhitebelievr2009-07-16 22:11:21

So like I said, there's no realistic objective measure by which to compare the two leagues.
So how about this - over the last 10 years, Spanish teams have won more European titles (CL and UEFA Cup) than their English counterparts. Footballing careers at the top level last about a decade, so clearly a 10 year period is not arbitrary in this situation, which clearly demonstrates that La Liga is superior to the Premiership.

well the Bundesliga is certainly making a claim
ESPECIALLY WHEN WE CONSIDER THEIR RECENT RECRUITMENT

Yep, so let's just take the result of the poll as gospel and be done with it
EPL, cos Tommy Smyth doesn't commentate on it. Yet.

epl is the best league in the world thats why it has such a big tv deal
Hey! This one escaped me! Cheeky sod! Well, just a meaningless friendly... If only we didn't get such a tough group (and have an idiot for a manager) in the CL then we could have shown you...!
I'm with el-grap. Can't really compare. I mean, Spain is slower, but technically the players are better than in England.
I was surprised you missed it to
especially given the mighty run of form your teams are currently exhibiting

."Too", I believe you mean.
There's time to turn it all around. Flores has come in and had to play Chelsea and Madrid, which isn't exactly ideal. Unlucky against the Basques too. But we won 6-0 midweek, thank you very much.
As for Liverpool... All I want for Christmas is a fit first eleven! Injuries left, right and centre.
Besides, my teams are my teams and no amount of relegation battles will put me off... The crowds would increase if Atleti go down (which they won't, anyway, but just thought I'd let you know)!
