Me? Well, I guess some banter about Bahrain couldn't hurt in an essay about black civil rights.

There were many reasons that sparked the riots in Bahrain on the night of th 14th of November 2009. For one their national soccer team was eliminated from world cup qualifying........

Have they named the team yet? I thought they were doing it at lunch time today?

Also, Elliott is a key player, he is a natural defensive midfielder. I would prefer to have him and McG in the mid and drop T Brown to the bench.

What methods were used by Ricki Herbert to subdue Macala after his white-knuckled rage on November 14 2009?
How did these methods influence the Bahrainis riotous actions the following day?

Where we play like champions and personal bests are not enough. Where we accept responsibility and we do what we have to, to deliver .

On a sunny ANZAC day in 1981 I stood on the soon to be sacred turf of Mt Smart Stadium for the pre-match festivities with my fellow U11 team mates who new little of New Zealand sports outside the black jersey. Little did we know we were on the verge of being introduced to the Sumners, the Woddin's of the football world and some kid Herbert that would absorb our attention for the next 9 months in what was the arguably the greatest sporting achievement by any New Zealand sporting team.

With rugby dominating the landscape being a kid at that time that was passionate for football wasnt easy, we were out in the back waters of the New Zealand culture, we were mocked and shoved to the fringes of the sporting world. Substandard training grounds with one street light if you were lucky with usually some pommy git screaming ball to feet son, ball to feet.

Then the events that unfolded over those nine months taught us valuable life lessons, that its ok to dream, its ok to follow your passion, its ok to believe in the impossible because those that do give themselves a chance to experience nights like the night we had in 1982 at the Singapore National Stadium.

Twenty-Seven years later its different its a different time its a different game but the emotion is still the same, the feeling of believing is still the same, the hopes are still the same. This time round I can afford the jersey, this time around we are not alone, the names are different from Nelsen, to Killen to Woods to Elliot, the list goes on, all of which have made a remarkable journeys to play professional football around the world and be in Wellington for this game.

Its time to stand up, stand up to the doubting main stream media, to stand up to the self absorbed rugby culture. On Saturday night its our time to believe, to believe in the 11 men who have the honour of wearing the All White jersey on this night, its our time for dreams to come true and once again its our time to believe in some kid called Herbert.

So scream like there is no tomorrow, scream as if you life depends on it, dont stop shouting till the final whistle, keep believing, keep dreaming because this is Our Time, Our Time for One Shot for Glory.

Yay the day has arrived.  If we score first (I hope so much we do) I might have to sing "final whistle now"!

Ring 473 3881 after 9am this morning and let the stadium know we want the musical instruments rule enforced!!!

Does anyone know if are any of the non-All White Phoenix players going to be there to support?

Ifill and Greenie said they'd be there.  Daniel would surely be there.  Can't imagine Costa would randomly piss off for the weekend either.  To be honest unless any of them had to be elsewhere, they wouldn't not go.  Terry must have a box for them all.

Had a refreshing sleep, after several beverages too many at the Kings.  Rufer.  Mad as a cut snake, and his enthusiasm put Hi5 to shame.  But I suppose that's for the other thread.

I have a good feeling about today.

Its white out day! Im sure the phoenix boys will be there..This is our chance to make history! if we can qualify then football will excel. Phoenix will lift and crowd numbers will increase without a doubt. Daniel has said he wants to play for the AW's in the near future.

Now im excited!! Give em a taste of Kiwi!!

yes, but i think the worry might be that NZF have done a 'backdoor' and in my view  utterly naive and self-damaging deal with the Bahrainians

great idea though I will be ringing them,

if enough people do, it might  make the Westpac authorities anxious about the public reaction their (potential)  hypocrisy and anti-New Zealand behaviour

That would really suck.  I don't want to hear their drums.  It's not a concert it's a football game!  Even though we'll be singing to me it would be cheating - voices vs instruments.  No competition on who wins loudness.
