The Otago Youth Development Squad have lost their first match in the Northern Island Milk Cup tournament, going down 0-2 to Fermanagh. There is a match report on the Soccerotago website

http://www.soccerotago.co.nz/MilkCup08/1fermanagh.htm

The next game is against Bayern Munich, and is played tomorrow.

The Soccerotago website also has reports from previous Otago matches at the tournament over recent years, including matches that involved Jacob Spoonley and Jeremy Brockie.

I see Central Utd under 15 squad are playing in the Man Utd Cup (and look to have done well in pre tournament games). Good to see coverage of that on the NZ Football website, but a bit puzzling as to why no mention of the Milk Cup squad?

was this before or after it was the Rumbelows Cup?  Or the Worthington Cup?

Fair enough- does seem to be a mixed bag of clubs that put teams into the tournament, but also includes teams from:

Bayern Munich
Man Utd
Benfica
Hibs
Hearts
Watford
River Plate
FC Brussels
Sheffield Utd
Chelsea

and has previously included teams with Beckham and others before going on to better things (LA Galaxy, for instance

Seems to me to be worht getting players exposed to htis typoe of competition, again with the hope taht someone will stand up and be noticed.

cheers

This has been a long tradition of Otago football, with some pretty good results as well.  They actually played Man United's kids as well last year I think.  Keep an eye on the BBC website as well, it has updates from the tournament and sometimes video of the games.

Otago went down 2-1 to Bayern Munich, which seems like a pretty good result.  Report and match pics can be found here.

No joy for the most recent games, going down 3-0 in both- to County Tyrone and County Londonderry. Sounds like the Londonderry game was pretty good, with the Otago boys a bit unlucky not to get some thing from it. They are play River Plate overnight in their final match.

reports and pics are at http://www.soccerotago.co.nz/MilkCup08/mcpage07.htm
