stuff to take out of the game.
All Whites v Socceroos Match Thread
Bro, its the internet. LOL is perfectly acceptable. LOL.
Fallon should take chances better. /end
"Pims on TV saying grella and cahill should of got reds, good on him for honesty"
(not in my book)
Those two goals that Oz scored - were there any major defensive stuff ups (other than being beaten by pace)?

a good game by the AW's; no cringe-ing moments and some honest shots at goal; plus the added bonus of a Phoenix ending - a winning goal in the dying seconds (you have to larf, don't you?)
Can someone ban this guy? He is obviously just doing it to get a rise out of people. Even a blind man could see that Elliott had a good game.
as a whole the game was a bit of a let down, i guess you can't really expect more from a friendly..
it would be nice to see a big Australia - NZ game in an asian cup quarter or something similar, where something is at stake etc.
good luck for the WC guys
Cahill: Get away with studs in Brown's back, then only see yellow for a knee-high studs up challenge? Jesus Christ. I guess no match between Aus and NZ can ever be a 'friendly'
Rory: Downwards, Mate! Other than that, good stuff.
Boyens: How you're even in that 23 is beyond me, hope he doesn't get on in SA, remember what happened last time he made an appearance there?
Haha, even FIFA called the victory "undeserved":

this reeks of sour grapes, and over a friendly nothing game, too. if you want to start whinging about the shocking tackles from cahill and grella then us socceroos fans will simply point out how physically pissweak you were tonight. focus on the positives, man, the all whites were quite impressive all things considered.

If we tackled you like that and f**ked Cahill's leg up there would be about a dozen articles calling us thugs and every aussie on every football forum would be blowing up.
Physically pissweak? We out muscled you for most of the game.
So basically - piss off.valeo2010-05-25 01:22:55

You can hardly call it sour grapes mate.
and if you call two foot challenges physical then you need to have a look at your self. Beacuse the fact of the matter is grella's tackle was a disgrace. And id say that your team was physically pissweak at the back i mean how many headers did they win?
Your going to struggle against serbia if your back four show an aireial peformance like that at the world cup.

did i in any way insinuate that it was grella's and cahill's tackles that made australia physical and NZ pissweak? no, but cheers for assuming that.
i condemned the two challenges in my post if you'd bothered to read it properly. i was referring to the amount of times all whites players seemed to go to ground off 'nudged off the ball' contests.
and believe me, i've already conceded that Australia will struggle in their group at the World Cup, i was extremely disappointed tonight. now after making a well intentioned few posts about the match, i can see that that it's not welcome in here. i won't reply to the other genius that quoted me because frankly i draw the line when it comes to mindless name calling.
what i will say though is that it's amusing that a sh*t performance from Australia and a reasonably decent performance from the All Whites still resulted in a win for Australia, have fun against italy.
Tonight was new low in Australian Sport (if they can actually get any lower) Those tackles didnt belong on any football pitch anywhere, never mind in a friendly 3 weeks before a major tournament.
they can forget about Kindred Anzac spirit in SA. I hope someone does Cahill and Grella.
Absolutely appalling.
When Leo went down after Cahills challenge it actually crossed my mind that Ricki might call the team off.
bringing you down was never the intention, but the degree of whinging i read in here about the poor tackles from cahill and grella was just astounding, it's as though it is all the posters in here can focus on.
and davybhoy, if Australia defeating New Zealand is a 'new low' in australian sport, then i'd hate to know what the state of New Zealand sport is.
go on, keep whinging about referee decisions in a FRIENDLY match, i pity you. and don't give us too much sh*t, if it wasn't for australia most of your squad would be playing in the NZ premier league.

Disgraceful from Vince Grella. Really bad. Can't believe it wasn't a red card. Cahill too, didn't look as bad as Grella's tackle but that's takes studs up to a whole new level. Then Tommy Oar tackling Nelsen round the stomach, I'd have slapped that little toe-rag.
I almost wish Siggy had made himself useful and injured one of them at the end. Their reactions would have been quality. (Notice I said almost, unlike some of the Aussies on here and 442 I don't tolerate barbarism).
Lol'd at seeing Daniel on the tele.
from the positives from the 1st half
and that Ricki and Ryan will help the team prevent any another last minute sickeners
Hahaha, same ol' Aussies... If you play like this in SA youre as good as finished. Your game reeked of desperation. You could barely beat a squad of players, a good chunk of who were uncapped or had only 1 or 2 caps under their belt. And you wont be able to score 'nothing goals' against Germany. It must hurt pretending to be good, and disapointing yourself and your fans in the process. I feel for you guys. Good luck!

We should be concentrating on the positives and negatives of NZs performance but it is too hard not to comment on some of the Australian sanctimoniousness [hows that for a word?]
No doubt, both of those tackles on Leo were of the mongrel variety and had no place in a game of this nature. Nelsen said he sees Grella make tackles like that every week at Blackburn, Id suggest he doesnt because even in the EPL they would be met with a red card.
Australia must be worried with that performance, even though a number of Aussie retards are shouting out about the victory and how bad we were etc etc, their own coach is obviously worried and has as much as said so in the press conference. It is not unusual for Australians to have an inflated view of how good they are and we [NZ] exploit that in several sports though not always consistently. We have done them a favour; there is still time for them to pull something out of the bag before the world cup.
A lot of positives for us, even conceding that late goal, best it is done here than in SA and that point will have been driven home last night. A couple more games under our belt and we will be at our best at the WC, fingers crossed that our best will be good enough to get us a result or two there.
Napier Phoenix2010-05-25 08:45:28And the obvious plan by Rikki to try out several new players in the second half probably cost us something, as the Aussies did step it up a fair bit and we had lots of new combinations on trial. But i'm sure that was part of the idea in the warm up context.
Both Aussie goals had a whiff of luck with them as well, the first one from an unfortunate pay back by us (some Aussie fans say that was a deliberately play off our guy by Cahill - thats grasping at straws!!). The second coming in the 4th minute of a 3 minute extra time, also with a big question mind in my mind about what counts as 'off-side' in some refs minds. Is running across the face of the goal directly in view of the goalie in an atacking move isn't part of the play? Some refs and linesmen might think so. I'm pretty sure Ryan was suggesting that to the ref afterwards.
OK - they got two - we got one, but it was really our game and we were unlucky with their goals and to miss a couple of really good chances of our own. I'm pretty encouraged by all that really. Not bad for a side that hasn't played together all that often. Can only improve.
We probably did the Aussies a really big favour as well. They've got some thinking to do if they want to still have 11 on the pitch at the end of games and to have any chance of winning anything.
All good - it just would have been nice to have taken at least a deserved draw.
