Just noticed on the sportal website while I was watching the rugby (sorry to mention that game on here) that the Aust Govt is putting up $25 million for a rugby academy in Queensland. Not bad for a minority sport! What does our Govt. do for us - squat.

It is a real shame about James.

It would be good to get him some more time on the big stage.

Just watching the USA v Korea game live on FIFA now. it is 1-1 at the moment, but Korea are all over them like a hot rash. Korea should be winning 6-1. What ever the result is. Korea is a class above the US. And we lost 4-0 to the US.

Very worrying!

They gave us a big fat cheque and said "here, build a world class stadium", but we said no it might be bad for the environment.

Costa Rica 0 - Nigeria 1

And we lost 3-0 to Costa Rica. I am getting pretty nervous for the game tonight.

NZ average goals conceeded in World cup finals at all levels is about 3.9.

So if the U20's can do better than that average, it will be a successful tournement. Lets pray for no worse than 3-0 losses.

They need to play like men possessed! I am looking forward to watch live on FIFA website. No sky coverage in the UK.

I hope it isn't going to be another U16 WorldCup in Egypt. 13 -0 ....Now thats embarassing.

I think we are defending ok, but we have to keep the ball when we get hold of it.

Well considering there are players in the portugal squad with champions league experience that shouldnt be much of a suprise. Its all a learnig curve for these kids, hopefully the next gen All Whites will be better off for this experience. UberGunner2007-07-03 07:56:19

I'm living in Mexico at the moment and I can honestly say thier Under 20 team is like the pride of the whole country and their Association.  I've told people here that if the Kiwis win, I'll streak round my block with nothing but undies and flags, screaming and yelling.

That's what I think of our chances!!

Interesting today.  After beating the Brazilians in the opener, Poland got spanked by Adu and the US.  Maybe that puts our 4-0 loss with a depleted squad in a more positive light.

The US have been super performers at under age football for many years, reflecting their participation levels, college systems et al. Adu is going to be a superstar, but their real strength is their college identification system which is then backed up to the hilt by the national body, which basically means the best young players play as an international squad from the age of 15. They might not be the best players individually, but the US teams are the best TEAMS in youth football.

Yes. I took some hope from that result as well. Poland beat Brazil 1-0 then lose 6 - 1 to the USA.

We can get some luck and beat Gambia and steal a draw or 1-0 or 2-0 loss against Mexico then we are through to the next round.

The main thing I would love from this tournement for NZ. Is if at least one of our players could pick up a professional contract somewhere. Not including with the Phoenix of course as that is a given. But even another A-league side or better.

I know it (U20 campaign) is long gone but teletext reports 18 year old Michael Fitzgerald signs a J-League contract with Niigagta - does anyone know much about Michael and if he was considered an option for the 20s?
