It all boils down to who is gonna pay for it. NZF don't have the bucks to fund it and no TV network is going to screen it for free. Maybe if we got a few good Maori players shining at NZFC level, Maori TV could show it....

its a disgrace that no leaguie is shown, an now wonder why the fan base is so low! the  clubs themselves should at least film the games and add highlights to their websites, a decent camera only costs a few $1000 dollars nowadays.

Would be great for it to be on sky digital (southland's is!) however it is only on dodgey UHF which means even those IN Canterbury get a fuzzy reception.  Apart from the Canty Utd replays, it is crap at best.

Here is my battle with NZFC/NZF last year regarding football highlites.  I'm in red and NZF is in black.  Its long as it took place over a number of emails, but funny...  Lets hope this season is better

>Hiya. Trying to find the hilites package on tv, when is it on?
>
>Ta.

>The highlights are on Monday on Sky Sport 1 at 8.30 and are now a
>segment on Sky Sports World of Football programme.

Sheesh, finally caught the world of football programme that you mentioned in order to see some of the NZFC and was wondering where it all was!  All that I saw was the goals from the Auckland match and the scores from the other matches.  Last year we had a half hour show with hi-lites and now we get one game?  Plus the rest of the show was full on inane chat with excerpts from champions league and A-league.

This is our national league and we can't get mentioned on the sports news, can't get any games on tv, and now the only show that would show hi-lites has been canned in place of a 2 minute segment on another football show.  I go to every Canty Utd match and know that it is being taped so do you use those when we play at home?

How is this going to promote the sport and the league in the country?

Your thoughts...

The decision to cancel the show was made, reluctantly, because of cost.
We are working with Sky to get other non Auckland content and hopefully this can be achieved.
Bottom line is last year we spent $250000 on 22 minutes now we get 10 12 minutes for no cost.
We remain committed to improving our TV presence and whilst you may consider the current situation to be a backward step some times you need to take a step back to go forward long term.

I understand the cost factor must be high in producing the show, but there must be ways to ease this.  Look at the football show on Monday night.  Awful closeups of random sponsors while the hosts talk about something different, perhaps one of the most shameless product placement you will ever see!  And what about levies that clubs pay to be a part of the footballing community.  I know my club pays heaps to Mainland Soccer, there must be a part of that that goes to NZ Soccer.  Even the juniors pay a levy to Canterbury United, isn't tv coverage on the national league a good investment of this money?

Maybe I missed some of the show on Monday night but there was never 10-12 minutes of national league, I would say 2 minutes of footage from the Auckland game, 15 seconds of computer graphics with the scores and tables.  There was an article about the Auckland entry in the Club champs, but I wouldn't say that could be incorporated as being National League action.  From your email it looks like every week it is only Auckland action, will check it out next week when they play Canterbury which should be on as we film it every week as it is shown on CTV, and I will watch the week after, however if that is all it is I can't see why I would bother.

Surely it isn't just me that considers this a backwards step?  Can you honestly believe that having nothing on the news, 2 minutes on a hourlong football show as the right way forward, even if something amazing is on the cards in the future?

Cheers

I would be the first to agree that the current situation is not perfect but it is the best solution to the problem.

I dont want to make excuses and as I said we are committed to improving the content so hang in there.
