Ticket Prices bit of a rant
I recently attended the preseason cup match which apart from the
frustratingly unfair ending was a great match to watch. In fact I
enjoyed it so much I couldnt wait for the first game ofthe season.
My 10 or so mates and I walked down the ramps in discussion on the
stormy night, just wondering whether this might be the start of
something as football mad students we could begin to worship.
however after registering for yellow fever I read that ticket
prices would be $28. Now I realise that us students are prety
scabby when it comes to moneyspending (booze/food/rent) but there
was enough spare cash to afford a $10 ticket every fortnight. You
might say get a job? I do have one but on top of study i can only
fit in 2 7 hour shifts of washing dishes a week which gets me by. I
understand your why the ticket prices are what they are, but i also
think you have maybe lost the majority of students on this one. No
doubt we will be supporting the nix from our couches now,
frustratingly only a couple of miniutes from the game.
Good luck to you guys for your opening game on Sunday

Cancel Sky TV, eat less meat and more brown rice, drink less, and stop smoking.
That is saving you about $28 per week in my estimation, so you
will able to afford a few beers in the Backbencher before each game
as well.
Or get a season ticket, and each match will cost you the
outrageously reasonable 8$
...plus, get 5 of your mates together and six tickets will cost you
$24 instead of $28.00 if you buy them from ticketek.
We should have a financial consulting TV show Frankie.

Or come to the pub on Sunday, demonstrate your commitement
(commitment to saving money for game entry) by not buying beer,
then see if maybe any of the lads can spot you a fiver .. . .
you never know u might be able to fish out enough to buy a ticket

Students can buy a child tickets if they show a student ID.
The same child discount applies to Senior Citizens as
well.
So he can now attend the match and buy a beer with the Yellow
Fever boys as well!
Yeah i got my ticket for something like $13 by showing my ID, so it
includes tertiary students as well. However a lotn of people do
some how think that it doesn't,maybe it needs to be made clearer?
Adult prices seemed very expensive in comparison to a student
one however. My student ID ahs expired (havent bothered getting a
new one) so was stoked when it was accepted as i would have had to
pay close to $20 extra if it hadnt been..
Tertiary students should consider themselves very lucky to get
tickets at the discounted prices. They're bloody cheap and
there's nothing like that for the rugby. Its really just a
m,atter of prioritising or increasing that student loan
The Stadium holds some 35k, why not try an initial pilot of half
price for the next home game - that way instead of 10k attending,
it might surprise everyone that the stadium gets full.
Even 1/2 price [if the stadium is continually full] wil not
only put the opposition on notice, but the atmosphere will be
fantastic - "Half a loaf is better than none"
Just do the maths, notwithsanding the obvious advantage for
the game of FOOTBALL in Wellington & NZ
Then theres always the risk of setting the prices that low, and
still only 15k turn up highly
embarassing
Three points.
1, If you don't get double the number, your budget is stuffed.
2, The FFA like all clubs to charge at similar levels.
3, What do you do for season ticket holders ?
Impractical. Won't happen.

Hi Baiter- you raise some interesting points, however, now that the
honeymoon is over, the REAL fans will support no matter what,
however, we Wellingtonians now have a mandate to raise the bar, as
far as FOOTBALL in NZ is concerned.
Surely the name of the game now is to pack the stadium with
followers, more than likely a huge proportion being sports lovers
of ALL codes. Logic tells me that there is probably a hardcore of
7-8k genuine Phoenix supporters in Wellington, but we want the
whole country to get in behind.
The Y/F [& others] have done a fantastic job, but this is
ONLY a start, the real work now begins!
My issue here being the more inside shouting their lungs out,
the better, no matter what the cost. Even to the point of running
the first two seasons at a loss - as our American cousins [Ozzy
being the 53rd state] say, speculate to accummulate.
The other problem I would see is that sudden drop in prices after a
few bad results smacks of desperation, and the media image that
would flow with that would be latched on to in seconds by some
parts of the media.
Season ticket holders and the faithful can be otherwise
accommodated
no need for any great changes yet.
with daylight saving approaching, a win just round the corner
and hopefully some warmer weather, regular crowds of 15k should be
easily gettable.
maybe a xmas special deal for the game on the 14th, free
scarves for first 500 through gates, something like that.
