Coastal lost 1-0 to Tech. Heard that Bays beat Nelson 2-1 fulltime, Western were up 1-0 over Nomads and Halswell 1-0 over Utd at around halftime. All hearsay tho! Apart from the Coastal Tech. That happened unfortunately.

Coastal should have the game wrapped up by half-time, should have been at least 2 up but allowed Tech back into the game after the break.

With Nomads collecting their first win maybe a little light at the end of the tunnel but still along way to go to avoid the drop. Would really be an upset if they knocked over Bays in the next round, to two weeks time, to win the Shield as well.

With a third of the PFL remaining it is interesing when comparing the points earn by team from the first seven games compared to the next seven games, suprisingly Western have dropped the ball big time 13 points in the 1st seven games and only 6 in the last seven rounds.

Interesting day in the Premier League then. Bays may have made their dash to the finish, Nomads have hope, and the middle sorts themselves out to some degree.

Gossip I heard on the sideline was that 3 tech players and a Bays player took the weekend off for a holiday in Queenstown. Lucky both their teams won, coulda been a bit of a hassle at practice during the week.

Yes title is now Bays to lose, but I can see some twists / drama before the final games as Bays still look brittle at the back at times, with Highfield the best keeper at the moment.

I do not think Bays were missing any players and from what I heard it was well communicated in advance that the Tech players were going away for this game.

Overall is was a bit of a scatch Tech side, other players out working/ suspened?, so overall Coastal would be disappointed that they dropped three points going to the cup game against Cavy next weekend.

I hear Suburbs coach, John Slotmaker sent from technical area and Matt Ayloff off after receiving a second yellow with both Halswell and ChCh United from finishing up a player down, Steve Neame for Halswell and Cameron Bell for United. AllWhites822011-06-26 11:35:17

I watched Cavvy v. Western last weekend and Coastal v. Woolston Tech yesterday, and will be in Dunners for the Chatham Cup tie next weekend. Could be an attractive match to watch as both teams can play, but on the basis of the 2 games I saw, Cavvy should progress. Coastal lost the plot in the 2nd half yesterday - after dominating the second quarter - and ended up to losing to a side containing half of Woolston Tech's reserves.

Matt Ayloff received a yellow card for a tackle where he won the ball. But if it was a rough challenge then fair enough.

His second yellow was issued when he through the ball at the ground in frustration when the play had stopped. Would warrant a yellow, but surely not worth sending someone off for?

Just home from the English Cup quarter between Papanui Redwood and ChCh United with United winning 4 - nil after 0 - 0 at the break with Papanui missing a penalty before the break. Ando scored twice with the other two goals coming late in the game, one to Alex Williams and the last a penalty taken by Lee ???.

Parklands defaulted against Western.

So the last four are United, Western, Nomads and Halswell.

I assume the semi's will be on Saturday as no other games in the PFL due to the Chatham Cup.

Them's the breaks. Dissent by word or action is a yellow card (as you stated) and two yellows equal one red

I got yellowed today for disagreeing with the referees decision to award an indirect free kick for a tackle inside the box he called 'dangerous and studs-up'. Surely that's a penalty?!?!

Wasn't quite Mainland Premier League but you lot were talking about yellows. Scored 2 goals too, don't like to talk about it.

It would appear that the referee got it wrong and you were hard done by.
In most circumstances a" dangerous tackle and studs up" would be a direct free kick and at least a yellow for the offender - and if it was inside the box itshould have been a penalty.
You could have taken it and scored a hat trick and been given the match ball

If the ref decided he was only playing in a dangerous manner eg high foot or studs up and no contact was made with a player then it is only an Indirect free kick, regardless of in or out of the penalty area.
If on the other hand he kicked or tripped an opponent then yes the ref got it wrong and should be a direct free kick or penalty if in the area.
So was contact made?

Oh wow maybe that's what he considered. I thought there was contact, but I am completely biased. I thought anything dodgy in the box was a penalty, minus a back pass.

Hopefully they will take some action then as unfair on the teams that lost in the opening round.

The fine for defaulting from the Chatham Cup is anything up to $10k. Don't know if the same applies in the English Cup but surely it should be more than the entry fee? An absolute disgrace that they defaulted.

Looking at the Mainland Website the draw for the semi Final for the English Cup is out:

Western vs. Nomads @ Walter Park
Halswell vs. ChCh United @ Halswell Domain

This will be a really interesting one with Nomads having nothing else to play for and having picked up their first league win recently 3-2 over Western. Could this be a revival of epic proportions under way? Western have lost their mojo recently and struggling for results. Upset on the cards with neither side now at home.

The English cup is interesting with 3 of the bottom 4 teams contesting the title. Is there less of an emphasis on the english cup for other teams? Also the draw has been farcical, United playing Waimak and Redwood, Western getting a "bye" through to the semi.

I hear at training last night that Mick Braithwaite (Bays) was given 3 weeks for his recent out brust with two of the three games suspended for twelve months, so will miss the next game next Saturday against Nomads I think.

John Slotemaker from Nelson Suburbs was sent to the stands last weekend. Another poor performance from the ref, but this is the second time Suburbs have been in this situation. I think it's a general problem with players and coaches being able to say whatever they want to refs over the world.

S3 at Rolleston? Surely theres a ground closer to both teams? For example the Westerm mens Div3 team is at Walter park. Very very strange.

The English cup is the only thing Western have to play for as well. Hopefully they can forget the loss of a 2 goal lead last week and get to the final. It won't be easy as Nomads will have a bit of confidence now. Still find it strange the game has been moved to give away any home advantage.

I believe the change was at Western's request. Maybe coming so late all the closer Christchurch grounds were already in use.

The grounds out in Rolly are in great condition.
