if they don't hurry up with that draw Germany could be two countries again before we find out who we are playing

Yeah, sure the Uzbeks will kill Brazil in their quarter.

After they crush the Argies in the round of 16. el grapadura2011-06-26 14:50:32

Final Standings in Group D determined in a draw

After a goalless draw between USA and New Zealand in the final day of matches for Group D at the FIFA U-17 World Cup on Saturday, 25 June 2011,  each team ended level on points and goals. As per article 25.5 of the FIFA Regulations, the position of each team was determined by a drawing of lots.

David Chung, the acting Chairman of the Organising Committee for the FIFA U-17 World Cup conducted the Draw at the FIFA Tournament Headquarters at the St. Regis Hotel in Mexico City. Organising Committee Member Ganesh Thapa from Nepal oversaw the draw.

The result of the Draw was as follows:

2nd Place Group D: USA
3rd Place Group D: New Zealand

Just to clarify, it appears we'd play the winner of 1F vs 2E (probably panama/ecuador vs brazil) in the quarter finals if we were to win. That diagram at the top of the FIFA page is a tad misleading, putting games beside each other that don't lead to the same quarter final.

We might want to rediscover how to score again in that game.

Yeah thought Edge was our best outfield player this game. Excellent composure and strong tackling and positioning. Great DM play.

They did what they had to today, not pretty but effective.Thursday is knockout, so from now on NZ brings their best game...will be very interesting. Second time in succession U17's have gone through to 2nd round, that's an impressive achievement for NZ. Congratulations!

I am presuming that all our under 17s are playing locally and have come up through the local clubs and academies.

We have shown here and at the last world cup that we are competitive at this leve;.

So the question is [an expecting many long and varied answers] what is not happening or is happening to take us to the next level internationally?

Good to get thru but does the end justifiy the means?  I guess it does if the draw gets u thru....Shades of senior team in South Africa.  It reninded me of that game Germany v Austria? froma few years ago when thay passed the ball back and foith for 30 odd minutes knowing the outcome suited them both.

Mexico v Italy. Del Piero scored with 5 mins to go, meaning both Italy and Mexico were through as it stood, so both teams played out for the draw.

In the last 2 games, I think Payne has done well with scrap's, Carmicheal has shown glimpses of class, the full backs have looked good going forward at times and the two CB's have been solid. Best player for NZ has been the GK.

I thought Rhys Jordan did well in the 2nd half today started to show compusure on the ball and range in his passing. 1st half the midfield was outclassed by the Americans, they looked light years ahead. There no.10 was something else.

I personaly think Edge looks very awkard and lacks consistency. He gives the ball away far to often and dosen't affect the game, he looks like a headless chicken at times. I reckon Martin would do a far better Job for the team when they have possession.

Mcfarland has done a great job in organising these players and they have had their fair share of luck. Personal changes are now key if his going to stick to a similar game plan against the Japs.

yeah, I reckon the ends totally justified the means. i don't think either team was only playing for a draw for the whole game- look at the saves our keeper had to make. As the game wore on, and especially after the US player was sent off, both teams retreated a bit. For NZ, they had (I think) been outplayed without being too much under the cosh, so comfortably settling for a draw in the manner they did at the end, rather than risk being caught out by a mistake was appropriate.

And, actually, even with that passing amongst themselves at the back, a mistake can be punished. I know the USA were not pressing at all- but imagine a serious mis-timed touch or astray pass, and they may have pounced. I thought it showed composure from our boys- especially when the crowd turned against them with whistling and booing.

Good job.

NZ U17 vs Japan U17 on next Thursday should be a great encounter. NZ will thump Japan and progress to 1/4. No more of the King of draws!

It's weird given the 3rd placed system they had that the last group games weren't played at the same time.

Blame FIFA for the end of that game, not the 2 teams.

Where did we finish in the group?

there is a serious amount of people who think japan is crap on this forum and in NZ, they are not. they thumped Argentina and got a draw with France. any team that tops that group is to be feared. Germany is big in name but look at who they have played, NOBODY. how many of you have actually watched any other games??? or looked at tables even, because at the moment i think very few.

i suspect that if we get beaten by Japan * who should and will be (favourites) there is going to be alot of angst here saying we should of won, when i am not sure if we are the better team.

one thing i do know though is that we look much better when we push forward, than when we sit back, our fullbacks look great when we play football but rap when we sit back and defend, i hope we choose the right option here
