Word I heard was that they asked for a deferment and Mainland refused - on grounds Coastal women had been refused one earlier or something. Not sure of the details but it would be good if the facts came out before the bullsh*t & sh*t-kicking. Tech-people, what's the story?

Interesting that the fixtures change came about to allow the National KO  Cup game between Coastal Spirit and Western to go ahead a week earlier as Coastal had three players away at the World Cup Under 17 Extended Trial's, fair enough but what was strange that Coastal elected to play against Halswell, on the same day that KO Cup was originally scheduled and now Coastal have been allowed to defer their game this Saturday when due to play Western - trials still going on.

The whole deferment appears strange, from the outside looks like Coastal allowed to call the shots on when and who they play.

Well if that's the case they got it wrong. Mainland forcing a default, that's crazy.

Nothing strange at all about that AW82. Coastal see the knockout cup as a high priority competition. they were entitled to a deferment and were granted it. Mainland didn't have to agree to the proposal put to them. Coastal played the game against Halswell on Saturday confident they could get the points to stay in the title race using players from their PDL group to fill the spots of the U17 trialists without falling a further catch up game behind FC2011. Could have backfired horribly but it didn't so fair play to the team. They should be commended for the approach taken, not be accused of being "allowed to call the shots". As it is they have back to back games coming up. Why so critical of a club that has gone out of its way to support the womens game and yet so defensive of the whole bye saga? Not really getting at Coastal but the way the whole deferment process was handled by Mainland.

Fair enough that Coasal are allowed the deferment by why the late change which then effects other clubs as well who orginally were not set down to play.

Good point, not handled at all well by Mainland then. If Tech thought they had the day off until recently that's probably how it should have stayed then. Would have loved to listen in on some of the discussions. So they can hardly fine Tech then can they?

Anyone knows what the FC Twenty11 - Men's Div 1 are going to do to keep match fit until the promotion play-offs series which is still weeks away, or is there a KO Cup planned for Div 1 in August.

What about this -

Looks like they borrowed from a number of sources. Very original. Each to their own, hope there wasn't a prize involved.Ronaldoknow2011-07-26 13:22:13

I had the whistle in that game, and tbh, it wasn't a particualarly difficult decision. One I was cautious about but an easy choice. The hail was virtually horoizontal into the faces of one team, the wind was well below freezing, and the pitch while playing relatively well, was icing over nad becoming unsafe. The start of the second half was delayed by about 7 minutes due to a hail storm and when another worse one came through there was no choice. Regrettable that I had to call it while Roslyn were leading but it was a safety issue.

2-1 to Roslyn, which was the halftime score. They had the strong wind behind them in the first half.

I haven't spotted any reference to abandoned games in the Knock-Out Cup regs on the NZ Football website, but generally it is 60 minutes with governing body discretion to order it be replayed. eg see this thread:

Nelson Suburbs' best player Adam Smith has played his final game for the club and will be jetting off to the University of North Carolina at Pembroke this week. Adam, 19, has captained Nayland College first XI to second place in New Zealand, declined a one year contract by the Academy of Hull City, represented New Zealand under-15's and twice been involved with the Canterbury United National Youth League side, assisting two goals in their championship win in 2009.

Will be a huge loss!

A good reason to watch them (win) against Halswell on Saturday then.  Luis is  Feni fit again?.

The PFL game - Halswell vs. Nelson Suburbs has been shifted to Warren Park, as has tnhe Women's PFL game Halswell vs. Woolston Technical.

Plenty of other ground changes down the division so check on the Mainland Football Web.

A bit late but picks for tomorrow:

Coastal to upset Bays and lift the Hurley Shield
Suburbs to roll Halswell, Western to defeat United with Tech and Nomads to draw.

In the Womens FC Twenty over University and Tech to get home over Halswell.

Coastal almost got the Hurley Shield last time being 2-0 up but eventually drawing and almost losing. Would be great to see.

Anyone picking a Nomads win to continue their momentous run?

No.
Reality has to kick in sooner or later.

Coastal will win tomorrow if they keep 11 on the park.

Coastal beat Bays 4-2 and take the Hurley Shield. Last I heard Nomads were up 1-0 over Tech and Halswell had beaten Nelson. Certainly makes an interesting end to the season.

Nomads held on to win 1 - 0 over Tech, Halswell 2 - 1 over Suburbs with Western and ChCh United a scoreless draw.

Bays now need just a point to take the title with United on 17 and Nomads 14.

In the womens Halswell 0 Tech 4 with FC Twenty11 winning 4 - 2 over University.

I think Nelson Suburbs will struggle if Gagame Feni doesn't play again. Adam Smith will be a huge loss and Simon Gatward-Smith has shifted to Christchurch and will only play away fixtures. How many games left in the season?
