Madeleine
In a shock new development in the Madeleine McCann case, Portuguese police have named the British girl's mother as a suspect in her disappearance.
Kate McCann had earlier been questioned for 11 hours, and had insisted she was being treated as a witness. It was expected her husband Gerry would also be questioned.
But late last night, police formally stated Mrs McCann was a suspect, according to Britain's Press Association news agency.
Family spokeswoman Justine McGuinness said: "They believe they have evidence to show that in some way she is involved in the death of her daughter, which is completely ludicrous."
Madeleine disappeared from the couple's rented holiday apartment on May 3. This sparked an international search and repeated pleas by her parents through the media for their daughter's return.
It doesn't make sense. Anyone think the Portugeuse police are just feeling stupid and want to look like they are on to something?
I had heard (read) some rumours earlier along these lines, which were based around the parents accidently killing her, then coming up with the story.
