interesting that the media have taken a bit of a negative view on it.   Although we have gone down, we've only played 2 games since the world cup, 1 draw and 1 loss.  other countries have played more than us and have moved forward.

"New Zealand have slipped further on the world football rankings, ending the year 63rd according to governing body FIFA.

After soaring to 49th in the wake of their unbeaten campaign at the World Cup in June, the All Whites have been in a steady decline although they are still ranked considerably higher than the 79th at the start of 2010."

Hope you are right.
My prediction. Two losses. Reason being that I don't think you have any idea what it is like playing teams like this away from home.
If we were playing in NZ then I might change my opinion.

Personally, any respectable loss against Japan would be a good result, as would avoiding a loss against China.

Expecting anything more than that would be a bit much I think.

I know WC build up games are a totaly different scenario but don't forget we've had some favorable results away from home recently. Confidence is key.

This is a comparison of nz, china and japan in terms of rankings over the past 4 years. Statistics and damn lies, I know, but quite interesting, and does show that it could be quite a challenge for us in both games.

Wow I didn't realise Japan were ranked so high.

BUT let's not forget what happened last time the All Whites played the world number 15 away from home! Victory is inevitable

NZ down 37 places to 97th.  The biggest drop by any country and the biggest drop I can remember for NZ.

Some of the nations now ahead of us: Sierra Leone, Haiti, Cape Verde Islands, Guinea and Benin.

These rankings are bizarre.
Capello needs a raise on his 6 million a year as he has got England up to 4th!

I'm pretty sure the rankings are generated by a computer under strict guidelines. They are meant as an indication more than anything else. Makes you wonder why FIFA harp on about it so much really.

As if we are better than Wales....

Wayne Hennessey / Boaz Myhill              Mark Paston
Aaron Ramsey                                       Simon Elliott
Chris Gunter                                         Ben Sigmund
Gareth BAle                                          Leo Bertos
David Vaughan                                      Tim Brown
Craig Bellamy                                        Shane Smeltz

Ryan NElson probably the only NZ player that would get in the Welsh side, maybe Chris Wood, Marco Rojas at a push but not even close for the others I'm afraid.

FIFA rankings are just a joke really.

How about Winston Reid?  Tommy Smith?

2-2 last time they played as well and that was with New Zealand including most of the players you are rubbishing.

OK everyone knows paston bertos and brown are crap. Why are you comparing our have beens with their top players. Aaron ramsey playing alongside simon elliot would be better. nelsen and reid at cb. wood upfront with bellamy. There we go 4 nz players.

Paston was quite nervous in that game but his great performance let New Zealand qualify for World Cup and not to lose to Italy and Paraguay.
