Had to laugh at Braithwaites if there was an elbow surely a player would have gone down um not necessarily. If you throw an elbow you can't complain if you get sent, although to be fai the ref was appalling

I saw plenty of other off the ball stuff that Canterbury got away with, especially the right back, who was lucky to be on the park at the end of the game.

I have to agree with Horise things are looking good. I thought 1-0 flattered Canterbury, they were out played, so they to got physical (fair enough), but lost that battle too. There were couple of nevous moments with the late corner and I had that felling we might be punished for not putting the game away.

There's still a long way to go, Mike and Tommy will be missed but  Overton in the middle park leaving Ants and MacGregor upfront could work. Plus some of the other lads are getting better and better every week, especially Matt Joy, who as Horise pointed out was superb.

Cunningham will be a major major loss, agree with Yeovil re Overton but would like to see how Mepham would go with Morgan in the middle don't really rate the MacGregor lad

Good point REDRUM, Sam has impressed when he's come on. I rate him very highly but I would also admit to being biased.
Next week I think 4-5-1 with Overton, Day and Sam in the middle. Could be too defensive but Auckland will make us defend, while Overton and Sam will get forward to support Ants.
To be honest I haven't seen much of MacGreogr but was very impressed with Joel Stevens yesterday.

It will be a big loss losing Mike Cunningham and Tom Connor but I believe they can be replaced in a way. They have the talent to adjust things around and move players that could bring them back to strength. Where are the Flaws brothers this year? Mike and Judda?!?!

It's good to see the local talent getting the results they deserve. The players have put in a lot of effort this season and are showing there true otago attitude out on the pitch. There was quite a few people who believed in the local players (a few that didn't ) and they are being proven right. It's great to see a lot if not most of the players ( excluding Pete Evans and Ferg) have played in the milk cup. That competition is great for the local boys to progress and make the step up to the national league. With the coaches in place, the local talent we have, and if the boys keep from injuring themselves I believe it can be the best season otago united have had. But let's not get ahead of ourselves, there is still a long way to go. Starting with Auckland this weekend.

AUCKLAND New Zealand Football advises that due to a breach of player eligibility regulations, the match between Team Wellington and Otago United on 23 October originally a 2-2 draw has been awarded as a 2-0 win to Team Wellington.

Following an investigation into the status of Otago United player Donnie McGregor, fielded as a substitute in that match, it was confirmed that McGregor was ineligible at the time to play in the ASB Premiership.

Subsequently, the league standings have been updated to reflect the changed result and the goals scored by Otago in the match have been expunged.

McGregor has since been cleared to play in the ASB Premiership.

You have to wonder how this can happen, why play a player if no clearence has been received.

Hopefully the loss of the point does not prove vital for OU when the play-off spots are decided.

From a Canterbury fan I hope your Otago lads take the good form and any frustration with the lost point out on Auckland this weekend.
This could be the last game for Darren Overton as he has had a couple of job interviews X Australia and flew out to Australia during the week all paid for by his possible employer, was due back before the weekend.

I generally watch TW play when I am in Welly (mostly) or, when I am working from Auckland (as I was this week, either City or Waitak - so it was with some fascination I went in the wet to Kiwitea St to watch these young Otago boys my Dunedin mates had told me about. And what a nice side they are. Granted City looked tired from their World Club Championship endeavours and so many of their good players struggled a bit today but it was due in large part to the intensity, skill and will of the Southern men in my humble opinion. Otago could have won, should have drawn, and might have lost 3-2 if the Football Gods had smiled their way they did not. So it was 3-0 to their bad with two late goals (after 90 minutes) for City. I have say Evans is a very good keeper, Connor (particularly) and Ferguson are good full backs Connor kept Hogg quiet and even made a monkey of him a few times. Prattley and the young centre back Lockhart were organised at the back and only stressed as they tired very late. If (from what I read on this forum) the missing Matt Joy is the heart of the Otago defence then Prattley is the brains, Connor is the balls and Ferguson is the guts. Young Lockart is one to watch (as is Stevens who came on late as a sub). In midfield Day has some engine, Cunningham iswell very cunning and has great vision as good as anything City have. Rodeka was also clever so many times the Otago midfield made a mockery of City with their intuition and movement. Out wide Coldicott looked like a brooding beast; when he got the ball he was pacey and direct its a pity he wasnt more involved. Up front Overton was dynamic and skilful I read here he is leaving and he will be a big loss . But my favourite was Hancock. He is a midget, but somehow he made a mess of Vicelich in the air; his tricks and flicks were sublime and he laid on several chances that should have been converted. Coach Murray should be congratulated. The skill and style of play of the Otago players was heart-warming. It was an open and entertaining game with little malice. I enjoyed myself greatly even in the Auckland summer drizzle. At the end the City supporters sang, Can we play you every week? What nobs, I thought - crass idiots and so insulting to their brilliant visitors. But on reflection, perhaps it was a compliment. They wish they had a side with the skill and guts and guile of Otago to play against each week to better themselves. Otago made the World Club Championship team look mortal, nay even (at times) feeble and limp.Toffeeman662011-12-18 21:00:38

I was a great effort by the young men up in Auckland and I think Toffeeman66 has got it right. We didn't get the win but we were close and we are finally getting the respect from the other teams around the country that I personally believe hasnt been there whilst I have been involved. The local talent are really pulling and fighting together and you can see that on the pitch. I have had quite a few Otago United supporters come in and see me and they have said that it is great to see this kind of spirit on the field and they haven't seen this in a long time. The supporters are really enjoying cheering on a local team. A lot of credit for this has to go to Richie and Andy for the way they have moulded the young men. It was a shame that the young men got a point taken off them for the ineligible player. Many people around Dunedin aren't happy with how this got out. Obviously it is bad from the administration to allow a player to play when he isnt allowed too, but what annoys a lot of the people involved with Dunedin soccer is there are still people down here who are trying to hinder the progress of the local lads even when they aren't in charge anymore. It's a real shame

almost spot on with my prediction, with the exception of Evans coming in last minute & Rodeka getting more game time than Ryder...

2nd half of the season

                   Evans/Little

Ryder, Prattley, Lockhart/anyone* Southland import

                  Day, Mepham

       Rodeka, Stevens, Coldicott

                    Hancock

would like Coach murray to give young Joel a crack, think he'd cause some trouble floating behind hancock, Ryder at RB, can pass, pretty fit, better suited than in the middle

*Joy back in when fit again

5th place finish

Overton will play against Waikato and that's it for him in the blue and gold strip. Shame that we lose 3 very good players only hope that the coaches have got some good signings to annouce in the new year.
Little will be a good signing for OU will give good compition to both Os and Pete, some people would say it was a shame that he was not here from the start, but I feel that Peter has done well for us (not bad for an old fella).

Well anyways have a good xmas and keep winning those games lads and shove it up those people that doubted ya's

Just read this from D. Edge
Declan Edge: Three projects were working on one, to play entertaining football; two, play fair and within the rules and thirdly, win football matches. We dont want to win football matches if we dont play in an entertaining way, or if we dont play fair.
I dont care how you win as long as you get the 3 points

I would say Mikie, Tommy and Evans as all great Roslyn players, but even I have to say that the stand out so far is Matty Joy, did not rate him at all but has been in top form and have to take my hat off to the Tech wank
