As an aside, Raf will be providing expert comments in the radio commentary for this Saturday's game.

Funny you should say that. I remember seeing him on the opening game of the Nix doing interviews and stuff right where I was sitting - in the YF zone...
To be honest, he would look so much better in a black Phoenix shirt than in the role of radio commentator.
But cheers guys, thanks for sharing all your opinions. I actually felt I finally started an interesting topic, which is rather flattering!!!!!

Team Welly played the Phoenix in a training match last night. The Phoenix won 5-1 but Raf scored for TW. I for one hope he makes the Phoenix squad next year. I think hes more than good enough!

He's a great guy but is just not up to A League standard anymore unfortunately. I wish him all the best for Team Wellington in the upcoming New Zealand Football Championship season.

If Raf is past it then Mr Coveny may as well retire!

I had the honour to play with Raf @ Wests a few years back (season before he went withe Kingz) and you will not find a guy with more passion for the game, nor will you find a guy more willing to "guts it out" when the chips are down.

If the Phoenix adopted any motto it would have to be "Guts Before Glory" - something Mr De Gregorio epitomizes. So bring on the TW season, we'll see the real Raf "Million Dollar" De Gregorio in action and in turn we'll see him for the Nix in no time.

Hi Ronaldoknow, Yes I too have been waiting 35 years, and I take my hat off to everyone that is associated with this fantastic ride that we are on, that said, the main mistake made post 82, was the hidden agendas by all the hangers on, whose ONLY interest was personal, in what the hype of world cup Football  gave, and of whom gave nothing to unite the footballing public of NZ. Thank goodness, Wellington appears not to have such interests, moreover, 12k [if you believe the stats!!] at the third home game speaks volumes, and this great forum - long may it continue
It would be fantastic if we could see four NZ teams in the A-league, & I see no reason why this cannot be so, given the time frame of ..... yrs

I dont get why people are going on about this topic. If Raf was good enough to be there he would. And just tell me Elrich (Fulham), Daniel (Guarani), Felipe (Hadjuk Split), T. Brown (Newcastle Jetz), Ferrante (Melbourne Victory),Johnsen (Knights, Newcastle Jetz), Aloisi (Adeliede) and Lia (Victory) are better than him, So why are we going on about signing a 9th choice midfielder, it lacks common sense. And i've bracketed their clubs of the last 2 years too just to show the difference...Rafs had a few games for team wellington. Good club player but hes not for us.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Seriously though Raf is a top bloke  bet im the only one here that was at the game  and saw him come on as sub  at Tynecastle  a few years back when the All Whites drew with Scotland in Edinburgh!
Not sure if he's suited for the Phoenix though.

Raf might be a decent BLOKE, but we are talking professional FOOTBALL here, and we are the appointed guardians of the code, so enuf of this nonsense, let Ricki & his management team be the judges. The supporters are here to SUPPORT and nothing else. Our pet dog should be at Cruffs, but do I complain!!

have you read the post which began this topic? I never said that Raf should be called in by the Nix. Only asked other people what they thought about him. As for the other guy who listed all the midfilders we have - and where they come from - yeah felipe, daniel and aloisi are better than De Gregorio, but I'm not so sure about the others yet. Everyone has to prove himself, at the end of the season we will see, and I really do hope none of the boys will have an unlucky/disappointing season.

As for Raf, well you never know. I still believe that it would be very interesting to see him pairing up in the middle of the pitch next to Aloisi. He would probably enhance the team's attacking drive as he can beat his man and has good passing skills. Once again, not talking about Ronaldinho here, just about a kiwi-bread bloke who would probably be very keen to have a go in the black jersey.
