to be fair, information around the whole competition has been very
hard to come by. in fact, the manawatu standard, hawkes bay
chronicle and waikato times have provided the best NZFC press post
season.
Not good down here in ChCh. No news, no new players? 2 poms turning
out for us who look worse than the local lads. 3-1 spanking from
Team Wellywood, who weren't that great, at the weekend. All very
understated and low key. Making me feel a bit nervous
....
we have new players, just no "big name" ones (by NZFC standards)
2 weeks from kickoff and still no new website with any info. Just a broken hyperlink (www.nzfootball.nz????) sposed to be pointing to nz football's site which only has the draw.
Doesn't bode well, who says NZ football is badly organised?
try www.nzfootball.co.nz and also www.nzfc.co.nz
I contacted NZF about this last week. The new NZFC site
should be up and running shortly; i'm sure it will be a significant
improvement on the last one.
I think Vim's point is that the nzfc site says wait for the shiny
new one and has done for months. Meanwhile, we're still
waiting.
Thats right. And all nzfootball has is the draw.
Where's the big promotion machine? Tis the National League!
it better be gud...or sum1's guna pay!
It was quite a good site before as welltold us all we needed to
know. The knew one will hopefully be a lot, lot better.
yeah.... iv been sticking to the manawatu standard for news on
youngheart. you get about one minscule article a week. not to
mention that EVERY team has uploaded their website, but YHM's
"breaking news" is still YHM 1 - 3 Auckland.

hard news and i have been trawling for information in order to
get some other NZFC related work done out there, but there just
isn't much available. in the end, we had to contact the
franchises directly and had very favourable responses from mark
cleaver at manawatu, mark chote at team wellington, rex dawkins at
waitakere and eddie cropley from canterbury. we didn't need
to contact ivan vuksich at auckland city because their info was
readily available. for waikato information, we were able to
rely on the ever willing and very well informed bruce
holloway.
there are many of us who believe that the success of this
competition (or whatever fronts as our national league) is of
paramount importance to the game in new zealand. i would like
to see more of an effort made to promote the competition and give
it a higher profile. this means that players have to be
familiar to at least the footballing public and that off season
activity needs coverage.
we're trying to do our bit here at yellow fever, but we would
like to be on the receiving end of more information, gossip,
opinions, etc either from the club or other sources. whatever
info we have will always be posted as news on the front page.
i just wish we didn't have to search so damn hard for it.
TW site has gone backwards. Nothing at all.
This time last year we were getting advised about pre season
games so we could watch them. This year the only way to find out
when and were they are is to ask the players as the club is telling
us nothing.
Team Wgtn having a game with the Phoenix tonight at 6.00pm at
Centennial thats the info I got today. Normally a good
source!
5.30 kick off.

Reg I believe there is due a release of info on the nzfc site
today.
I agree reg22, why work so hard (voluntarily I assume) to promote
someone elses product when they should be doing it as it is their
job.

Yeah, everything we do here is voluntary, but we're passionate
about it and we want to help out. Basically what we're
offering is free publicity for the sport, direct to the target
market. I'd like to see the franchises exploit that.
I guess it comes down to a number of things:
- $$$ - not every franchise has a full time employee
- possibly the perception of this site not being a credible
avenue of promotion
- maybe footy folk assume that the public isn't interested; of
course we know that this is not the case
I must stress that the people we have dealt with (mentioned
above) have gone to a lot of effort and have been excellent to deal
with. I just think that publicity doesn't seem to be high on
the agenda within the comp; whether this is a franchise or nzf
issue, i'm not sure.
NEW WEBSITE GOES LIVE FRIDAY
The new on-line home of the New Zealand Football Championship will go live on Friday, November 2 - the eve of the fourth edition of New Zealand Football's domestic showpiece.
That's from nzfc.co.nz, however it seems a little too late
don't you think? Goes live the day before kickoff, with
little to no publicity one week from kick off. Ho
hum...
we have new players, just no "big name" ones (by NZFC standards)
There has got to be some changes in the way the NZFC is being
handled if there is to be any chance of it going to the next level
in terms of crowd numbers etc. Hopefully the Phoenix will have a
halo-effect on domestic football and increase awareness a little,
but a publicity campaign, however big or small it might be,
certainly wouldn't go a miss.
new NZFC website starts on Friday
Hopefully it's a good website but it should have been running a month ago.
