F1, A1, V8, iRacing + more - The Fever Motor Racing thread
The NZ minisprint champs are in Huntly on February 17th and 18th. May head along to that as i do enjoy a bit open wheel racing also.
I remember when the car engined minsprints first appeared (they used to be much quicker and motorbike powered) and they were disappointing but they've become a much more competitive class.
Dayton 500 is only a couple of weeks away on the 27th. I've got the day off to watch as I'm sure many others have.
Danica Patrick has a drive for this years race so that should be interesting to see how she does.
Budweiser Shootout is this sunday afternoon. It's a non points race for the top 25 in points from last season and any previous winner of this event or any other event at Daytona. A bit of an exhibition event to kick off the season. Pretty fun to watch though, some decent racing as every driver tends to go pretty hard out for the win with it being a non points race.

Is everyone excited for the upcoming NASCAR season?
no
Completely agree, another screw up of the hamilton city council to let it go. Hopefully it stays in New Zealand. Love my v8's, and although the weather wasn't as calamitous as I had hoped, and the chicane has lost its' fun, still some great racing
Disagree completely with you on the city council. The screw up was the huge money spent getting it in the first place, way to expensive and disruptive. Should have been (and should now be) at Hampton Downs all along.
Loving F1 at the moment, four races and four manufacturers winning, 6 teams and 8 drivers on the podium, and Webber consistently competitive with four fourths. Even the midfield is much more competitively even this year.

Good result for long suffering Williams Fans.
Williams pit box caught fire an hour after winning the race, a couple of people in hospital(not serious) - must have been a hell of a party.

Nope, even the last one, with all the extra people that attended because of it being the last, is forecast to lose lots.
Never got a chance to post after the V8 Supertourer round at Manfield as the forum went down and I've only just managed to get back on but after my last post, I managed to win a hot lap that day and got to do a lap around Manfield with Steven Richards in the CRC Falcon. Most amazing experience I've ever had in a car. The acceleration and grip was amazing. Going round the corners at the speed that Richo did just defied logic what you would be able to do in a road car. Totally awesome experience that I will never forget.
Still hoping to get to the Taupo endurance round in September.
Bathurst totally crept up on me this year. Are there any Kiwi's a chance to win it this year?
McIntyre and van Gisbergen the top two currently. Coulthard in 4th.
Fannnn-tastic race! Poor old Murph, if he had a decent car he would win Bathurst every year. Scott Mccloughin ended up top kiwi, he looks like a real prospect, but what a finish it was. I am unashamed to say I did not move for a long long time.
I didn't move for 6 hours!! Incredible finish and I was literally shaking with nerves at the end when Whincup crossed the line. Lowndes now up to 2nd in the championship and Whincup has increased his lead. Interesting stat for you trainspotters. Lowndes has now achieved 11 podium finishes at Bathurst from 19 starts. 5 wins, 5 seconds and 1 third. Thats a pretty incredible record.
Not quite sure I understand Shane's motives behind all these actions he is taking, makes little sense to me.
My thoughts as well.
Greg Murphy has signed with the Holden Racing Team for the Bathurst and Sandown enduro's. Good chance of him picking up a 5th Bathurst win.
That's quite good, be great to see him and Tander together.

Jason Bright and BJR winning the Jason Richards Memorial trophy at Pukekohe yesterday. The most appropriate victory. Quite emotional for the team and I don't think anyone else begrudged them the win.
RIP JR. Gone but will never be forgotten.
Sky Sport NZ times - 2nd easiest way to make a millionaire just add 1 billionaire and an F1 team
So, a Kiwi in F1 again for the first time in a generation. Happens to be in a timezone which is watchable and on a long weekend.
Rumors coming out of Europe is that if Hartley does well Kyvat will be dropped from the other seat and Hartley will race for Toro Rosso until the end of the season.
Here's his first F1 presser... sitting alongside Lewis: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2mOVoz8Vbw
Brendan Hartley finished 13th. Congratulations young man. Was 20th at the first corner. Be very proud.
Just annoying that Kyvat managed to get points, if Kyvat was outside of the points you'd think Hartley had done enough to get the drive, now I don't know.
I guess it depends on lap times which from what I've heard were pretty similar between the two.
Still, most people don't realise how impressive what he did was. Most F1 rookies get a full winter pre-season testing and still cause accidents, spin, and crash in their first few races. Hartley posted competitive lap times and kept out of trouble so would be very satisfied.
Actually Hartley had a fastest lap 1 second faster than Kyvat. You'd imagine he'd have been in the points if he started higher up the grid (although his start was pretty bad so he'd probably have been last at the start reguardless).
Backing up in Mexico - c'mon the Flying Kiwi!!!
Yeah, there were positive comments out of Toro Rosso, they said that Hartley is still on a steep learning curve and that he was gaining a second a lap in qualifying, seeing as he only missed out on Q2 by a few hundredths of a second they were confident that if he had one more run he would have been comfortably through.
I also read analysis of his performance, when both he an Kyvat were in clear air Hartley was the faster of the two, this was despite the fact that Kyvat was on the much faster tires at the time (and of course Hartley was one second clear when comparing fastest laps). They also concluded that when in clear air Hartley was on about the pace of Verstapen when you adjusted it for tires and car performance.
I wonder if Honda is asking Toro Rosso for an experienced driver who can help them develop their engine. They've stated they want to be 3rd next year which would be a huge task in itself, made pretty much impossible if you just have red bull youth drivers testing it. Hartley was with Porsche for four years and not only helped develop a new car from scratch but also won the championship with it so that has to be in his favour and something that Honda would be quite interested in.
Confirmed with the team for the rest of the F1 season. That's huge!
