Got a feeling this might be a slaughter.
The Mighty Warriors - Fever League Fred
Finally Sky get their act together...Voss is a very good commentator.

Sigh.
Dopes.
22-18 to the warriors after 65 mins - it's on!
Comeback.
Arrgh!
Good performance in the end. Bunnies pretty lucky to get the 2 points. They looked much better with Godinet on the park.
They always do look better with Godinet on the park. But I think they have got a good balance with Friend and Godinet
tickets sorted for the game against the bulldogs in Wellington. It may be beacuse there is fucking nothing happening in this place, but I am quite excited.
Bill Tupou is the worst player to play reguarly in the history of the Warriors

Whare.
Smith will be suspended.
Where is Roy Asotasi?
6-all ht, we should be 18-6. Dam refs...
Disagree that the refs were the fault, I think Alex Glenn did knock it on, Pritchard definitely did - I do think that Whare was robbed, his try was legit. Floodgates opened in the second half but we were certainly dangerous enough to inspire confidence.
We always seem to compete for 50-60 minutes but then Aussie runs away with it at the end. Makes me wonder if that is the benefit of Origin, they are used to playing at a high level for a full 80 minutes.
Smith will be suspended.
Where is Roy Asotasi?
Playing right now for Samoa. International eligibility in league is crazy.
Nigel Vagana was hoping to build a super Samoan side for the Rugby League World Cup. Being thrashed by Tonga sets that back a bit.
Interesting call on Radio Sport this morning from a fellow called Dames regarding Jim Doyle. Whilst most people have been heaping praise on Jim for what he's done for League in NZ in his time at the NZRL, Dames was criticizing him for a lack of domestic competition. Telfer then made the exact same flippant comment that he made about the ASBP some months ago "Well, nobody cares about that". Now I know virtually nothing about league but from what hear on Radio Sport, which I listen to relatively frequently, I wouldn't have even known there was a national competition. So does the same attitude exist in league as it does in football, that if it's not an overseas league ie NRL, EPL, A-League, ANBL etc then it's not good enough to cover in our national sports radio station?
Ali - congratulations. You are finally starting to understand the New Zealand sporting landscape.
Not only does the same attitude exist towards league as football, but it exists towards all sports, except rugby. You could make an argument that cricket at the domestic level gets reasonable coverage but of course, it is our major summer sport, and largely avoids cross-over with rugby. Domestic softball, however, gets fuck all coverage.
Telfer's views, while stupid, do represent the views of the majority of the sport-watching public in NZ. They are mainly interested in rugby and are prepared to show some interest in the ITM Cup (although still not as much as Super rugby). They also like a bit of cricket in the summer (although the domestic comp largely relies on T20 to draw the crowds now).
That's why the NRL, A-League, ANBL and Trans-Tasman Netball League are so important to those sports. They get around that lack of interest by leveraging off most Kiwis delight in any Trans-Tasman rivalry to generate at least some interest in those sports at a national level.
You might want to think about that the next time you're complaining about NZF not doing enough to support the ASB Prem. Is there really any point in them doing that? Would they just be throwing good money after bad by doing so? Is there any evidence in any of these other sports that if you invest more you can seriously challenge rugby's hegemony?

As a born and bred Kiwi I love being told how to think and feel by an ex-pat. Thanks for the advice.

You don't need to like it, you just need to understand it.
I don't like it either. But I'm not sure I want NZF wasting my footy subs vainly trying to change it.

And most of all the NZ sports media to recognise the local leagues in football, basketball and league and give them the coverage they deserve.
I would suggest they already do. The media are reactive, the report news/stories, etc - they don't create them, it is not their role to grow local sport... it is up to the sports to engage the people - media will be the last ones to cotton on.

Well said.
It'd help if it wasnt club football in disguised and being played at a park in Miramar etc for starters. Makes people perceive it as something not worth watching. Compare that to the professional ITM cup for rugby and you can see a clear difference.
Anyway, how did the rugby league thread get hijacked by this same old Auckland vs everyone - local football discussion. Is no thread safe?

It had an undertone that it was fairly obvious you were angling for the conversation to go this way. When I read it, I thought - here we go again. Then sure enough you guys are having the same conversation in here next time I check. Don't you get bored of it?
So... who's the new/temp skipper?

Actually, I thought Ali has finally shown some insight for once. But then he defaulted back to lecturing people about not liking the same stuff that he likes, so yeah, back to the same old.
Anyway, go Warriors.
Francis Meli won't be playing for a few months after this 'tackle'
Craig Hall won't be throwing too many dummies any time soon
Sam Tomkins?
