Do you think Ryan might be a good coach for the AWs, hahaha, maybe not going by his results, lol.

It's all relative to the pieces you have to work with and has been mentioned, he walked into a team capped out and carrying a lot of dead weight.

1-1 draw with New England this morning. Toronto really is a hard watch, just nothing creative in their midfield atm.

what do you think this says about using a visa spot on a player who can't make their squad? hmm....thinking probably unlikely to happen...gold for copper, gold for copper....still horses for courses- Elliot is quality, but couldn't make an impact here.

According to the TFC bosses, Ryan's coming back next year. That's "100% sure."  I'm glad. We don't need a ninth coach in what will be our 8th season next year. Ryan's hasn't done badly with what he has. Things had better improve next year though, or his days will likely be numbered.

He has got you working well defensively but has to get some quality in the front half of the pitch. Osorio & Laba are the only bright spots in those areas. Been rather disappointed by Convey & Earnshaw.

Earnshaw was great at the start of the season. He's done nothing lately though. Convey seems to be improving slowly but surely.  For sure, the front half of the pitch is very weak. Now Laba's out for the rest of the season, so things are looking grim all around. Doesn't sound like Danny Koevermans will be back with the team at all anymore. He was brilliant for us last year and the year before but then got a torn ACL. Hard to say where the team would be at now if we'd had Danny playing for us all year.

Apparently, we will be getting a big name DP next year. About a month ago, it sounded like Diego Forlan was on his way to Toronto - one of the major newspapers was saying it was a done deal. Nothing happened in the end though. Other names that have been thrown around for us: Kaka, Tevez and even Drogba (!) We shall see. I'll believe it when I see the press conference!

Quite a bit! Things started to get shaky when TFC traded Silva. The Forlan story was all over the Toronto media. It sounded like it was a done deal, but then suddenly all went quiet. So, we lost Silva, but got no DP.  Payne definitely annoyed a lot of core fans when he did a live TV interview during the Roma game.  At the time, I wondered if there would be repercussions.
Ryan was left with a very limited amount of options on the bench.  What did surprise me, is that he and Payne were having issues. There was a lot of talk of friction between Tim Leiweke and Payne, but not between Ryan and Payne.
Toronto FC is 50% footy team and 50% soap opera. We've had similar dramas before. It's a strange team.

Looks like Nelsen's staying in TO for at least next season. Though with TFC, nothing is a sure thing:

http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2013/09/05/tim-leiweke-ryan-nelsen-will-stay-toronto-fcs-coach-salary-capologist-needed

BTW - we lost 4-0 to Portland last night. Total horror show.

Old GM spent most of the season trying to sign Urruti and after playing 2 games, the new GM trades him away. I'm guessing that is typical TFC?

Didn't they pay around a million for him?
Traded him after 2 games for Dike, allocation money and 1st round draft pick?
Whaaaaat? Is Gareth Morgan in charge?

We are just stunned by this latest development.
We were told about this player for 4 months, finally we sign him, and then he's traded after 3 weeks. My footy team is probably the weirdest one on the planet.
Also, seems that the media's turning on Nelsen. Here's one article:
http://www.sportsnet.ca/soccer/molinaro-on-mls-tfc-wrong-to-gamble-on-nelsen/
I hope Nelsen gets to stay, and it looks like this will, in fact, happen.

At least it's never boring! Props to the Toronto fans for still turning up in numbers - the Phoenix would've folded by now with the same results/management.

The atmosphere at BMO Field used to be a lot better than it is now. We'd get over 20 thousand fans who were, for the most part, all really loud. Now around 16 -18 thousand, and it's much quieter. The weather will be turning colder soon, and then the numbers will likely drop off even more.

We've had 8 coaches in 7 seasons, and more players than there are stars in the sky. Still, a lot of us are sticking with the team. Not sure how much more upheavals we can take though.

NY has a MUCH stronger roster than TFC does. Pretty much everyone expected a loss tonight. Our roster isn't all that strong, and we have loads of injuries too.  As of tonight, TFC is officially out of the playoff race. AGAIN!

TFC to make a major announcement 10am Friday their time. That sounds rather ominous ...

[Edit: Now I think of it, the commetators the other week did mention they were hoping to announce a new GM in the next few weeks]

Definitely announcing their new General Manager - Canadian Broadcasting Corporation has all the info:
"TORONTO FC TO ANNOUNCE NEW GENERAL MANAGER FRIDAY"
A lot of good detail in that story...
MLS say Ryan will be there for the announcement and it's streaming live on TorontoFc.ca:
"A little more than a week since announcing the departure of president and GM Kevin Payne, another big move is just hours away for Toronto FC.

On Thursday, the club announced that it will be holding a press conference "to make a major announcement" on Friday morning at 10 am ET at BMO Field.

The event, which will feature TFC manager Ryan Nelsen and Tim Leiweke, president and CEO of Toronto FC owners Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, will be streamed live on TorontoFC.ca (click here for live broadcast).

Is it the unveiling of a new GM? A new player signing? Speculation is rife and some of it has also been tongue-in-cheek (see the #TFCMajorAnnouncement on Twitter).

What a fun game to be at!! DC played a very weakened squad, as they have some bit US tourney next week, but TFC were missing a lot of players too.  My heart sank when DC scored first, but things got turned around nicely. Hopefully, that game is a sign of things to come next year. The crowd at BMO field was ecstatic!

"LmanAuckland, Auckland, New Zealand, 1 hour ago

If only Ryan Nelson had stayed at spurs (even though i support arsenal) he may still be playing today. If he was in a good environment maybe he would of stayed playing instead of trying to pursue coaching. Top class player for both club and country. If NZ still had him then maybe we would be a chance to make next years WC but atm i just cant see it happening"

lol - fantastic effort on the Daily Mail's Comment page.

Daily Mail, UK serialization of Harry Redknapp's autobiography is very entertaining reading and mentions our Ryan in flattering terms:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2449895/Harry-Redknapp-book-QPRs-worst-dressing-room-football.html

INSIDE THE MOST TOXIC DRESSING ROOM IN FOOTBALL

Chapter on inside story of QPR shambles last season and bad group of players Harry inherited who would rather accept a fine than turn up to training - sounds like an Ealing comedy !!! Like a poor amateur team but paid too much...

"Within weeks I had worked out that my best player was Ryan Nelsen, a 35-year-old New Zealand international — and he couldn’t wait to get out.

‘You’ve got no chance,’ he told me. ‘Not a prayer. This is the worst dressing room I’ve ever been in in my life. You haven’t got a hope with this lot. I don’t know how you solve it.’

There were players who were late three, sometimes four times each week – and the most we ever trained was five days! There was always an excuse.

One day I heard that one of our players had been out until 4.30am at a casino in London, when we were playing Manchester United at 3pm the next day. When I called him into my office and confronted him with this information he seemed genuinely puzzled.

‘Friday?’ he said. ‘I don’t think it was Friday. Maybe it was Thursday.’ That annoyed me even more. I was expecting him to be angry at the mere suggestion of it.

I was expecting a real row and to go back to my source with a load more questions.

Instead, this idiot genuinely couldn’t remember if he was out until dawn on the Thursday or the Friday — clearly there was a chance he was out both nights!

Some would train all week, then have a mystery injury and cry off for the match on Saturday. Rarely would anyone play through a knock or a tweak. I don’t know how they had the front to pick up their wages some weeks."

He turned his arm into it. That's a penalty.

Consider had he not moved, it would have hit him square in the chest, he then turns his arm in to it. Clear.

IMO, his arm is still against his body and if he had lifted his arms the ball would have hit his lats.
