We really need to talk about the +/- of HE.  That was such a decisive shot last night (see previous page).  It was a game changer if ever there was one.  I think knowing how to use ammo correctly will be vital for the Excelsior project...because the gun lacks pen.  But it's nippy for a tier V HT.

When I encounter an AT2 I switch to HE and fire at his mantlet and commanders hatch -the other times I use it - stopping a cap when you cant afford not to do any damage i.e. 80% cap or against arty or open top TDs -if you can hit inside the turret of the TD you can do some good damage -Ive 1 shot a couple of Wolverines with HE, but other times just done 40 damage (I might have damaged components or crew),

also finishing tanks with only a few hit points left, HE can be used then

from http://wotguru.com/weak-spot-guide-at-2/

"Unlike a lot of tanks the main weak spots are not on the hull but on the turret(casemate in this case).  The commanders hatch and mantlet area around the gun are the two easiest hit."

AT-2 - they dinged us!

Re; inept players. Bumped into the charmingly named AussieWog something or other again last night. I mentioned to him ages ago that his name was pretty offensive to people, (some of us old-fashioned types), so I remembered him. This was when I first started and he was a Clan member and a much more experienced player than me way back then.

He was one of the worst players in a Redshire encounter. Taking off an getting completely isolated with his platy before anyone else could get near to cover him. We end up 3 down because of the red teams better stocked push across the river.

It's like Stevo said players who should know better. Maybe it's booze or weed or people just jaded.

This baby is hard work.  Streaky thing...

Against anything with semi-decent armour - gold rounds are a must...BUT, just when the lack of pen is getting to you, it comes through with a 'top gun' and 1st class award...about bloody time though...took me over 100 battles to get it!  "Ace tanker"???  That is going to require something epic...

I did just under 6k spotting damage in my M60 in a Tank Company battle last night.  Parked in a bush.  lit them up.  Got spotted.  Fired one shot.  Killed.  Good XP though.  Failed in the other three TCs.

Also failed at weekend bonuses.  Had 4 kills in 3 battles in the T-34 then spotted the fuck up with the Type T-34 so stopped then didn't get on again until last night and wouldn't have had enough time to get 60 kills.  Never got in one of the Tier 2 battles either.

5 games so far tonight.  3 wins, two loses, 11 kills...

Damage: 791 (sniper), 1,088,  1,144 (sniper, master gunner), 964, 900.

Nominal XP: 296, 784, 352, 763, 811.

Playing very solidly...but still no nearer to "Ace Tanker"...

Even had a win in my M7

Ffs man lol!

Just got the Cromwell with stock gun not to clever, 76 damage to heavy peers. Anyone played this? I don't really wanna go for the slower derpish gun so what gun would you guys recommend? (Knowing me I'll try them all).

I know I'm still in the early stages of Stockyness with the Cromwell but I'm wondering why I've gone this route when I have the Soviet T34-85?

Although the Soviet med tanks get a hard press as being nothing special I find even when it was stock the T34-85 much better than the stock Cromwell. Like the T-34 a good no nonsense tank.

The T34-85 now it's been maxed has a good gun pen and damage wise, accurate, aim-time good. Armour OK, speed pretty good. Basically a nice little tank.

Looking at the stats of the Cromwell I can't see any vast improvement in the damage. Ok you can pew pew tanks but you actually need to damage them and going the Howitzer route sort of destroys what the Cromwell is supposed to be. A speedy med tank that can ram and brawl or fast pew pew scout.

Am I missing something?

Should I abandon the British med tank route and just stick with the Soviet?

Now I wondering if I should have gone German all along also.

Cromwell and Comet cant take hits, but upgraded gun is all about ROF.  your pew pew cannon can whittle down tanks quite fast, just make sure you use your speed and mobility. Those tanks are really good at shooting on the move.

I had plans to get to the Cromwell over the weekend but never got the time to do the Crusader (or the money to convert the 200k of free XP I have sitting on the T40 and SU-85b).  Both were discounted was the driver.

As well as that clip from Jingles look for Circonflexes and QuickyBaby clips using Comet and Cromwell.  They are both very good in them.

I recall enjoying the Cromwell, I still have it sitting in the garage - its all about waiting for the opportunity to use your rate of fire - circle strafing an isolated heavy or speeding through a gap to kill arty then get in behind their push - i think a plat of 2 cromwells and a hellcat would be effective

I'm framing that average tier of 5.  Doubt I've ever averaged 5 for a nights tanking before.

We should 6 again tonight.  Even Ed was enjoying tearing around in a Hellcat.

16 more WN7 to get rid of the Yellow in my sig...

Thanks for the replies.

So do you reckon it's better to plough on to to the Centurion which seems on paper my sort of tank which is fast, decent gun, okish armor that can snipe but not so much of a Pew Pew tank?

Or just carry on Soviet-stylee which again on paper check my boxes?

I'm in no hurry to get to tier 8 or 9. Happy at Tier 7 at the mo but long term project-wise.

Suppose I could follow both.

Mind you Crashed to Desk top and amazing 1 in 4 times over 50 games like 12 or so times. Twice I crashed twice in one game. Still no reply from WOT and Nvidia seems very strange to navigate. Tis harshing my mellow somewhat and if I found a game that I liked as much or almost as WOT I'd switch.

5 crashes I found myself dead on restarting. I think 3 of those crashes cost me victories as I was near the last tank in close games.

After last nights numbers a little more reality tonight. Summed up by my last battle of the night where we'd gone and capped on Mountain Pass. Myself and a T49 went back to stop their cap which we did losing our lives.  Their heavies werebheading back to stop our cap but we had two in comfortably leading the race when a PzIV in a jaw dropping act of stupidity drove out of the circle when he had 60% of the cap.

He wasn't even the stupidest one we had on our sides tonight.

I think I've noticed a slight improvement in public team tactics in the last couple of days - maybe I've just been lucky.

Valve about to unveil new "Steam Box" a device that lets you play your Steam games on other devices. Not sure what form this will take. As you can just log in to your Steam account from another comp and download the game you wanna play again. Maybe it does away with the need to redownload a game to the Hardrive of another computer?

"Other devices" ? what like macs, ps3's etc if your on a PC???

I did apoplogise to the scout I rammed and then shot because he was camping behind our TDs and we got overrun.

The steam box will pretty much be similar to a console that runs Linux on your tv and allows you to play your steam library in your living room or anywhere you like as it will be pretty small. Steam has "Big Picture" functionality in it at the moment which lets you use your TV as the monitor and control everything with a controller like a console, but its only really suitable for (not surprisingly) steam games that work well with a controller.

Thinking I might buy one.  Nightly Clan training scrimmages and Team companies has pointed out how my US Medium (M7) crew desperately need 6th sense so a Ram, the M7 and the M60 should help get them there.  Not that the M60 goes out in Pubs... it did once and didn't end well.

50% last night.  Sigh.

Anyone tried World of Thunder yet?

Gave it another bash as WOT was down this morning. It's growing on me. It doesn't have the precision  of WOT and the interface is still early days beta but the frenetic pace of the dog fights are great fun.

That was great...one of those AMX things tried to play "get in close to the heavy cause I'm small and his gun won't depress" games...got him (and his friend too)...tried to drown him in the water...just wasted him instead...though he he did do 1,300 of damage!

The Tog is like the Matilda BP - but on steroids!

Finally, a gold noob tank gun that can make a KV-1S burn!!!

Has to be used with smarts though.  Even with 1,400 HPs...these can vanish quick-smart even versing tier V heavies...and you have to be decisive when choosing your route to battle - because there's no turning back with this baby...but as she's such a slow heavy, she can defend base - without hearing that dreaded WOT phrase - "stop camping u *********!!!!"  Awesome.

I played a battle last night where a three man Pz-1c platoon camped on Sacred Valley...  I almost exploded with rage as I got cleaned up to two hit points because we had absolutely no eyes on the enemy coming from the Dalai Lama's place.  Lost about 15-3.

If I hadn't already team-damaged once this week (twice if you count accidental) I'd have shot all three of them.

I didn't buy a Ram in the end (yet).  Used the golds to free XP up.  By tonight I will have three shiny new TDs in my garage.
