Good article Ian.
Nicely done.
Definitely not written by a melter.

You seem to have heaps of local knowledge...
How much if any ... and how ie mainly negative or positive... has the media landscape changed in NZ since the start of Hal..
In Australia the change has been huge, nay mega mega enormous, with football moving into mainstream status with many positive articles ... whereas in the past the only [and very limited] media Football received in Australia was about the Soccer Riot's and ethnic issues...
I would appreciate your opinion and others as well ...
Others are way more knowledgeable than me, but media coverage of football (at all levels) has greatly increased since HAL although it seems to have been further boosted post 2009 (after qualifying for South Africa).
Positive/Negative balance? I'm not sure. I think Nix coverage has been mostly negative within Wellington, but more balanced ironically in Auckland (NZ Herald).
Similarly TV3 is generally favourable while TVNZ is more sensationalist and more negative.
I am of course completely unreliable for objective comment.

Thanks Junior & Jeff ... I am glad it seems to mirror the Australian experience ... wonders aloud why the DP is as you say so negative ... maybe some egg ballers are getting a little worried about their jobs if the Nix get more coverage...
Also while wondering aloud ... my guess is if you guys where top of the table, your coverage would be improved, which leads to how important you see making the finals from a media stance not so much a fans stance...
Just to highlight the change in Australia ... pre hal the NSL was hardly mentioned in the main stream media ... radio and TV time was unheard of maybe the results at the tail end of a TV sports report but never on radio...
This is taken from the normal press release pre match ..on the Mariners V SFC... the Friday night match would have SBS FTA to add.
