France win on penalties when extra time still locked at 0-0

Typical finals game...very cagey by both sides. Brilliant goal keeping by the Uruaguay keeper kept them in the game. As for the penalty shootout Ur missed their first two. France slotted all theirs very well.

Pogba, the French captain, got player of the tournament. Looked head and shoulders better than everyone else. Quite an interesting story about him. Was signed by Man U at a very young age. Then last year he told Fergie he wanted to leave because he was not getting much first team action(he was still a teenager) Fergie blew a fuse and he got the full hair dryer treatment. Then as cool as a cucumber Pogba left. He walked straight into the Juventus first team and played 20+ matched last season in their Seria A winning team.

Other interesting thing to come out of the tournement is the low crowd numbers. The Turks never supported it. Less than 5000??? average per game was the second worse ever. It will be interesting to see how many people front up when its held in NZ. For a start off we are a long long way from Europe for supporters. We will probably get plenty of South Americans(hope that Brazil/Argentina qualify) As for kiwis.....who knows how many will go to matches.

It will probably depend on how realistic the price of tickets are!!!!

How long is your list and what positions are covered by your "Lads at US colleges"

Having watched numerous Auckland Secondary Football Premier Division football games over the last 5 years I'm not aware of any of these players now playing in the US "and" still elligible (Age wise) to play for the U20's in 2015 - aware of plenty born 1994 and earlier, none 1995, eg Jordan Vale, Nicolai Berry, Aston Pett etc.

Ok so that's about 25% of the country covered - kids outside Auckland play football too!

A few 95 96 kids have euro club experience and now at/about to go to US college.
Plus there's a few kids from APFA, Ole.

Yes, but in the 2012 NZSS Nationals Auckland schools took the top 6 spots and last year 3 of the top 4 spots with final being played between Auckland Grammar and St Kent's.

So back to my request, show us your list of players elligible to play for NZ at the U20 World Cup in 2015 currently, or about to commence with US Colleges, and the positions they play in.

Then list out the players with Euro experience again elligible and the positions they play in.

And then finally list the players from either APFA or Ole that NZ Football obviously don't know about and overlooked including in the Wanderers Squad. Because Riley Kelliher and Corey Brown from Ole are already in the. Wanderers setup.

As others have asked, other than Tuiloma, Edge, Rufer and Ridenton who else is elligible to join those players currently in the Wanderers squad in 2015?

I wonder if NZ selectors would be interested in Omar Guardiola from Nelson Falcons... obvious x-factor there when he wants to play

So looks like the list of "overseas" based players either pro or at Uni etc is very small. WSC is struggling to score goals in the ASB where are our strikers?

I'm hoping that Global Game is busy collating his offered 3 lists, players at or going to US Colleges, players with Euro experience, players with Ole/APFA because in the absence of GG's, or anyone else's lists, the pool of additional players (outside of current Wanderers Squad members) appears to be rather small/limited.

Tommie Trubovich (? Spelling) is part of Melbourne Victory Youth Squad (as is his twin brother). Both of them have been with the Wanderers Squad the last few weeks. Tommie (striker) has started the last 2 games but hadn't really made any impression.

I understand that 2 fullbacks (Kelliher and Wynne) were today played as wide midfielders to try and improve the attack, from the ASB website game write up Kelliher missed a chance which was described as harder to miss than score.

Good question, where are all our strikers?  (GG, any strikers on any of your lists?)

Optimist. I hope you aren't a selector because if so you need to open your eyes. Plenty of kids don't play schoolboy football. Just because a kid is playing for Wanderers doesn't mean they've made it either.
What's your point anyway? Are you a parent looking out for your kids competition?

Global Game this recent discussion started by "FootballNut" his first post, number 2089 on this thread, asking who else was elligible to be added to the WSC squad.  You replied "Lads at US colleges" and then I asked you to detail who you were referring to because having closely watched the Premier Division of Auckland Secondary Football for the last 5 years (and yes you quite rightly pointed out that Auckland only accounts for 25% - yet GG you may be surprised how many kids board at Auckland schools in order to play at a higher quality) and I wasn't aware of any that had recently gone onto US colleagues AND still be elligible for NZ for the 2015 U20 WC.

Re Auckland School players, from the top of my head, players currently in the WSC squad:

Thanks for your list, unfortunately, Frances, Ken, Aaron and Louie appear to have all been born in 1994 and so are not elligible.

Whether the others (assuming eligible) would "give the Wanderers a run for their money and then some" I have only seen Henry Crayton and Tom Probert play.

Henry was part of the New Zealand Secondary Schools team that toured the UK in April/May 2012. Didn't get a lot of game time as Stewart McKay (currently playing Auckland City Youth) and Sammie "someone" (currently playing Auckland United Youth) were preferred starters. I have seen him play for St Peters (Cambridge) and Hamilton Wanderers at 2013 School and Club Nationals - would he dislodge Adam Mitchell (currently Captain of WSC), Corey Brown, Riley Omegher, Nick Forrester or be preferred to Tom Probert? Personally I wouldn't  think so. Henry was part of Waikato Youth last year and they were very poor. Yes he has gone to the US, but not on a scholarship - as I understand it.

Tom Probert was part of the NZ U17 campaign but was behind Adam Mitchell and Nick Forrester in the games played at the WC. He is doing well starting for Waikato and from what I've seen playing well. Given he was part of U17's and the coach of that team is now coaching WSC I'm sure they are aware of him, but for whatever reason have chosen not to include him in the WSC squad.

No I'm not a selector, not involved in any way, just a argh Football tragic!! (Or was that slut/who're according to another YF poster).

Global Game, tell us all some more about Birhana (couldn't find much info, not even DOB), Rahan, Te Atawhai, Corey and Joel to support your contention that they will give WSC and run for their money and then some!

Opinion from someone who knows him: "Judd is a quality young striker who is technically very good, strong for his age, can use both feet, has a good vision and can pass the ball. He played mostly for his school and occasionally only for East Coast Bays youth team.

With a little bit of luck, and, if manages to stay injury free could potentially be one of the better strikers that NZ has." 

Bill Tuiloma, Marseilles (born 27/3/95) will be an important member of the side.

Te Atawhai Hudson Wihongi is an eligible midfielder at Real Salt Lake academy in Major League Soccer who is supposed to be pretty good. Also spent time at Asia Pacific Football Academy, Lincoln.

Finally my clearance came through! Made my debut for the reserves today. Drew 1-1 and played the whole game at CB against Venezia (Venice).

Monty Patterson  - striker,  ex-Wanderers SFC, now Ipswich Town academy as of the new year.

Andy Pascoe - Welsh Kiwi striker, 18 yrs (23/1/95) , Cefn Druids, Wales (ex-Wrexham); "New Zealand-born forward who is comfortable on the flanks or up front. Can create and score goals." Prolific scorer for the reserves this season.

It has already been a big year for Bowkett, who was named the MVP of the national secondary schools side and did enough on the northern hemisphere tour to earn a trial with Reading.

He spent 10 days with Reading and though it did not lead to any offers, he was thrilled by the opportunity. "It was an unbelievable experience and I really enjoyed it. I thought I played well too, which meant a lot to me."

In the longer term, Bowkett is aiming to make the New Zealand team that will contest the under-20 World Cup on home turf in 2015.

AP is at Ole, but not Tee Dub Youth strangely. Isn't that odd as he was U17 with corey and riley who are both at Ole too.
One young lad who is scoring for Tee Dubs is Clayton Lewis.
Daniel Mulholland ex APFA also at TW; not sure of his age though.

Big Pete is the certified anorak on kiwi talent diaspora and he's answered in relation to most of the players mentioned. Sincere apologies from me on those Spain, Bush, Yamamoto, de Vries  as I thought they were still eligible age-wise.

Cory Mitchell - regular starter for Cashmere technical throughout 2013 when they wone evrything including Chatham Cup and cotinues to be regular starter for Canterbury this season, but now I'm unsure of his age if that other lot are also 1994. Big Pete, any idea of Cory's age? He was at Napier last year I think?

slightly off topic but the rumour up here in Auckland is that East Coast Bays are signing at least four of the Wanderers SC squad for the NRFL Premier League season - my question to everyone is do they think that this is a conflict of interest for Willy Gerdsen (East Coast Bays Head Coach and Wanderers/U20's Assistant Coach).

Um... yes and no.

 

Players will go and play under coaches that will help them get a head. If I was one of those Wanderers kids, I'd go play for Willy as well because I know it increases my chances (or conversely, if I fuck it up, I am toast).

If Willy says 'you need to play for me to help increase your chances' etc then yes, it is a conflict.

 

Lets be honest though - Willy is a good coach of young talent. Where would you rather have them, with Marshy at Eastern Suburbs or Knowles at Bay Olympic?

 

I think the kids are fine with him.

i get what your saying and for the most part I agree - he is clearly a good coach of talent but that's not really under question.

 

It's more about what number of kids going to ECB starts becoming an issue - is 4 ok - what about 6 - how about 10?

I don't think Willy would be silly enough to say if you want to go further you have to play for me - but here is another thought:

Most of these kids got to this point without ECB - so what makes Willy so sure he is the best place for them now?  surely other clubs can provide good pathways for these kids and another point is will he play them all or is he just hoarding future talent?

kids these ages - are they better off playing 90 mins every week - or fighting for a place in the defending champions team?
