Ha ha. May be same player? school first XI player who registered to play for nomads ( dual reg only applies if you play senior football) and never trained or played for them, but was dual registered for purpose of cup.
APFA boys heading to Wellington are all paying for the opportunity. Scots college isn't cheap!
Anyway on to football matters: seems another player has rolled off the coastal girls international production line, according to their social media sites.
Mainland Juniors (please play nice)

Ah but are they really paying ? mmmnn
FC2011 name Auckland U17 team (on the fc20 website)
It's a young team.
Couple of PDL players who are eligible and played for FC20 in 2013 but are not in the team include Renta Yamamoto and Jackson Brady.
Ellis is in there GG
Gings, your thoughts?

Surprised they've gone for him as a guest player to be honest - Marcel is also a quality keeper so unless they're sharing game-time somebody aint gunna be happy. Most of that squad is eligible for U/16s by the looks of it.
Squad of 18 is a bit excessive though?
Thought marcell gone to Welly with APFA?
Ellis knows he's going as back up.... Well he did a few weeks back when I last spoke to him. Probably their way to try get him to transfer over this year after he nearly did last year.
Have heard he's off to the UK with a few of the others from Burnley Academy so those players likely to miss the start of the Juniors League Season.....
Junior stuff: here please
With Pete Roberts departure from mid Canty FDO role ( as per 10cc post in mainland seniors thread) any good footballers in the area will head to burnley/selwyn for sure. Yet to see mainland advertise the role.
If anyone's interested (I know you are), Western Suburbs have advanced to the next round of the Manchester United Premier Cup from the Wellington tournament this weekend. They're a good side.
No one got near them by the looks of it. That Wests/Ole alliance.

That Wests team hasn't changed much in the last couple of years. Not too much to do with Ole.
Edited for accuracy...
Wow they must be some outfit, given some of those scores. Thinking it will be much closer down south between the Chch Nelson and Dndn teams entered.

Mainland policy on rep selection (sort of)
Doesn't look to have changed from previous years, so what's prompted this?
Earthquakes and the resulting player migration?
Some players wanted to trial for an area different to their residential status.
Obviously Nth Canterbury and Selwyn could well have rep players who do not play for clubs in "their catchment".
Their was some grumbles 2013 season about the NTC clash and who actually does the picking, but nothing too much out of the ordinary. The real bizarre stuff was Parental behaviour after the selections were made...

Standard of football not awe-inspiring. No linesman led to some decisions that were wrong. As in WRONG. Each team has some good individiuals in their line-ups but overall expected better.
Hopefully this week was nerves and things pick up next week.
How about a dedicated MUPC / Nike Cup thread where all regional action can be reported on?
Alright then...
Any Burnley Academy people out there? what's the go with NTC this year?
In the past, players at private providers who did not do FTC had the opportunity to trial via a Talent On Location day.
Will this still be the case?

I don't think that is correct.
I'm sure only APFA got invites to TOL and that is because they specifically worked out an agreement with Mainland/NZF. Obviously that will not apply to our location this year.
It specifically says on the Kids NTC invite - No FTC = No NTC. So my assumption is (fairly or not) that FTC is the only pathway for NTC for Chch kids.
APFA players always been at NTC, via TOL. They never did FTC. And the poor relationship between APFA and Mainland was one of the reasons quoted when APFA left town.
speaking of FTC - when are those squads announced?
starts Monday apparently
has been trials the last 2 (?) weeks
Continuation of the Pre-Selection policy is a major annoyance.

Interesting guys. Up here in JAFA land this has been a contentious issue. When launched the federation indicated the role of the provide providers and the opportunities for kids to attend TOL and the NTC via private provider programmes was to be reviewed. To the best of my knowledge there has been no progress on this after 3 years! The reality is that the FTC has essentially been set up in competition with the private providers with kids and parents forced to make a decision which one they attend due to clashes in training, crazy training times, hard to get to locations (5pm at Mt Smart on a Wednesday evening in the middle of winter when you have to get from Titirangi out west Auckland) etc. The up shot has been that large numbers have chosen to stick with the private providers, given the proven quality and results v's the FTC where quality has been variable and delivery against objectives such as inter federation game days has been virtually non existent.
You only have to look at the AFF 98 FTC group that attended the national tournament in Wellington in Dec 2013. My understanding is that not one member from the Onehunga Sports (Wynrs) team that made it all the way to Manchester for the MUPC in Ag 2013 is part of the AFF FTC group and as such have been excluded from the current 98 / 99 northern NTC group.

What is the preselection policy?
Anyway if NTC is the "highest honor" of age grade representation we can offer our kids then I am 100% saying open trials is the only way to go.
And if FTC is the logical lead in too NTC then it has to follow the same entry structure.

Must be. That is what they are selling, at how many hundred dollars per NTC player??

Hi 2boys. That's pretty much been the experience in the South Island (FTC now in competition with private providers; probably wellington as well), with the difference in the SI being that TOL provided an opportunity to attend NTC for the private provider kids (APFA, and more recently Burnley academy). However I've been informed that there is a move now to totally exclude any player from NTC unless they are doing FTC (but i also hear that the Wellington Phoenix Academy might be treated differently; ie capital football staying in good with nix i guess). A few years back there was talk of an accreditation system but i can't see that ever happening.
So the idealist position of NTC being the best players in the country - and therefore pretty easy to select a national squad - is just crap; which means that the next U17 coach (zoro's name has been mentioned on the U17 thread) will think - where are the best '98/99 players - Auk - wynrs, mags, st kents, st peters, westlake etc; Wgtn - Ole and nix and maybe kaizen academy; then the 3 x NTCs. and somehow have to work out how to see them all, or ask each coach at those organisations who their best players are. sigh.
To get the best you Provide the best. If you don't you're left with the Rest = FTC.
Compulsory FTC > NTC is a crock of shit as has been proven. They do not necessarily attract the best players neither will it retain them. Proven alteady.
