Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose if the team aren't locals?

Team Wgtn had 2 players take the field in the final that were born and bred and came through the ranks in Wellington.

The rest imports to Wellington!

yes and no. Plenty of them live in Wellington. Wellington is a major city so it's not surprising that people move here for jobs/uni etc.

Unfortuantely Nelson doesn't have that attraction.  It's also has a older population.

It has plenty other attractions though - a lot more than Palmy. If they could give it a go, and the Bay can still do it, then Nelson's worth trying in my book.

Like?

Palmy have a uni for starters.

Summer attractions - sunshine, sea, vineyards... Doesn't Nelson's pop increase markedly over the summer months? When the ASB is played.

Isn't that the same as buying people in?

I'm talking about player's who live there, regardless of whether they were born/rasied there.

Could be used as an argument for a second Wellington side. Hutt Throb!

Getting back to the youth team thread, all those who keep harping on about ACFC importing players and not developing local youngsters should note how successful ACFC's youth side is. Current champions no less. Already Oliver Sail, Mario Ilich and Nicolas Zambrano have made the step up into the senior team ranks as well. You can bet ACFC is keeping a close eye on the best of the youth squad as development players for the ASBP. So ACFC is doing a great job in developing young NZ talent.

Time will tell if they do or not but despite having lost only 1 Youth League game in 3 seasons I cant think of many if any players that have progressed to the Senior squad?

From last year's grand final there are none who have played a game for ACFC this season.

On a side note I thought Chopah would of been on by now congratulating ACFC on the Youth League win despite the lack of Ellerslie players in the team? Bet ACFC are regretting there recruitment process again this season......

Were these 2 really youth developed by Central / ACFC?

With Waitakere United they are a duopoly in the largest pool of talent in the country, so they can't really miss can they when it comes to assembling a strong youth squad . Are they really developing or simply attracting the cream?

How many have completed the path of Central thru to ACFC Youth

Does it matter 2 Boys? Plenty of clubs develop good players who, for one reason or another, don't necessarily go on to the first team at that particular club. Development is rarely linear within the confines of "one club". As someone somewhere on these pages said a while back, and I'm probably misquoting, players go "where ambition meets opportunity".

Absolutely agree. What I find interesting is that Bluemagic would have us believe the success of the ACFC youth team is down to the clubs / franchises development of the players?

I’ve always thought it would be good if NZF got their website info up to date and published details of the youth league squads with their club of origin included. The work key people at clubs like Ellerslie, Western Springs, TKU, Eastern Suburbs, East Coast Bays, Forrest Hill etc. are doing with youth in this city should be what is being recognised and celebrated!

Squad and there winter clubs posted in ACFC thread in January
Of course though there's no possible way that those players could of improved during the summer though is there with the quality of coaching available and they level that they get to play at?
And who would benefit from that other than the ASBP Clubs?
Maybe there winter clubs so works both ways mate

Every match day program I saw that was produced by Waiatkere United had the full Youth squad listed together with their club of origin - biggest contributing club, Birkenhead.

I have since discovered that it will probably six or seven of the youngest squad members from the Falcons.

I like that - it's a nice touch!
Aces - to reply to your earlier post about ACFC winning the title with a lack of Ellerslie players - what does this mean exactly?  I would like to respond to your post in a mature and open manner but I have honestly missed your exact point?
