Reid injured? serious? another couple of wins would be a hard task given their run in of tip-top opponents

Neville was pointing out his performance against Suarez in the weekend on Monday Night Football last night, saying that Kompany will be watching with interest, and looking to do the same.  General concensus is that Reid did an excellent job on him, and Suarez was as quiet as he has been all season (despite winning a penalty and hitting the bar twice).

Reid has been poor in this game. Lots of misdirected passes

West Ham quote

"If positives are to be taken from today, then the performances of the West Ham centre-backs would be one of them. Reid and Tomkins have had their work cut out, but they have kept their eye on the ball and made countless important interceptions."

WEST HAM SET TO BREACH WAGE CAP TO KEEP REID

https://www.westhamtillidie.com/posts/2014/07/14/w...

"West Ham are understood to have upped their previous offer of £50k per week to £60k per week in an attempt to persuade Winston Reid to sign a new long term contract. His advisers are believed to have asked as much as £75k per week previously for a new contract. Reid and his advisors have been given two weeks to decide but if he decides not to put pen to paper he may be forced to play the next year on his existing contract terms barring a transfer request in which case the Hammers would have little option but to sell him.

The centre back joined West Ham in August 2010 on a three year contract for a fee believed to be around £3m. This deal was later extended by two years which takes him up to August 2015....

....If the deal is agreed it would make Reid the second highest earner in the club after Andy Carroll who is though to earn £80k per week.

A 5 year deal would cost West Ham over £15m If he was sold this summer he could raise around £6m but no official bids or inquiries have been received to date....."

Man, I'd be happy with £50k per year !!!

N.B. West Ham have a new club policy of a wage cap of £50k per week.

surely that would make Winston the best paid New Zealander in international sport?

Don't say Russell Coutts, it will just make people angry. people like me. angry.

Russell.....C..C...C..Crowe

coot (US usage)

1. A dark-gray water dwelling bird resembling a duck.
2. A foolish old man.
3. "Seeing how the USC football sucks so consistently, it seems rather offending to good poultry everywhere to call them Gamecocks, so a 'coot' is a much more realistic symbol for such an inept football program."

1) "Any coots arrested today?"

2) "He meant jorts, as in jean shorts; you know, the staple of every Coot's wardrobe."

But seriously, you could well be right - I can only think of basketballer Steven Adams who apparently "will receive a starting salary of at least NZ$2.2 million in his first year, rising to $2.4 million in 2015." Reid at $60,000 per week would be earning about 3 million $NZ per annum.

His earnings fluctuate depending on how many races he wins.

Apparently this year so far he's made $US 1,102,280:

But the Indy Car Series finishes next month with 13 of 18 races already completed.

Isn't he going for £60,000 per week?  That would be in excess of £3m per annum (which is approximately NZ$6m)

There are rumours Lars von Trier is casting Winston in an upcoming project because of his look + Danish language. How awesome is that?

My mistake - I meant "about 3 million pounds" - actually it would be 3,120,000 pounds.

From the interviews I've seen of him he comes across as a pretty quiet, straight to the point type of guy. He's probably right about players needing to move overseas. I wonder if he had not gone to Denmark and stayed in New Zealand would he be as successful as he is?

It was that the about figure wasn't specific enough - it was the fact that you said he would be "earning about 3 million $NZ per annum", when he is actually earning about 6 million $NZ per annum

I reckon he's absolutely right about kids moving overseas, you just don't get that professional football environment over here unless you're lucky enough to make the Nix. Its all good arguing that the ASB Prem may be better than some pro leagues out there (Singapore etc..), but the environment will never be the same when you're one of about 20 odd others in your squad working 40hrs a week on top of football.

Reid also got a Danish passport which means he doesn't count as an import in the EU - that's a pretty big advantage for a pro career

I think that is beyond fanciful. He has no hope progressing as long as his role in a big sam team is to thump it upfield as soon as the ball comes near him.
