Question for you guys - if a player is sent off in a Chatham Cup game (2 yellows so a 1 week suspension), do they serve the suspension in the league game the following weekend, or are they suspended for the next Chatham Cup game their team is to play in? I have read the NZF regulations but it is not clear as to that point.

I believe they serve the suspension in the league game the following weekend. Think that one of the Wests players had two yellows in their Chatham Cup game against Petone and didn't play for them in the CL game the weekend after that.

Next game I believe regardless of the Competition

Thanks. That was my understanding also that it was served in a league game if that was the next match day for the team. But I can't see anything specific about it in NZF regulations.

I am sure if coming back to the same club with an International Transfer then the fifteen day rule does not apply. Only applies if transferring from a difference club.

I do think the question needs to be asked of NZF - if for no other reason than to prompt them to take the time to review their (outdated) regulations and provide some clarity going forward on this type of situation.

 

Good luck. NZFs regulations (and constitution) have been in desperate need of replacement for a decade or more.

Governance has not been a high priority it's fair to say.

The lawers who drafted the current governance docs should hand in their practicing certificates immediately.

Have previously been rebuffed both in respect of the Capital Football regs and the New Zealand Football ones.

It may interest folks to know that at one stage there were two lawyers on the Capital Football board, one of them really good (the other one was me). Chairman Canton's choice to rewrite some of the playing regs: Helen Mallon.

Go figure.

easy there smithy i know where you are coming from but spitting tac's here won't help resolve stupid rules made by stupid people.

as for the ambiguity in the NZFA rules i feel it has been done deliberate to allow NZF to manipulate outcomes as they see fit.

and that is why they don't want them fixed to remove any misunderstandings.

You're quite right. I'm not spitting tacks at all, just an interesting fact for those entertained by local football politics.

On the bigger point, I totally agree. There are a couple of assumptions I've always made about the current rules, which I think stack up. 

One is that they are drafted to capture anyone who ever touches a football. The reasoning was (presumably) to make the game appear as big as possible for funding purposes. Count everyone.

That is unhelpful now, but back in the day perhaps it was necessary.

The other one is that, as you say, they wanted to retain ultimate discretion on pretty much everything. 

Again, unhelpful now (in the extreme) but it happened at a time when NZF was trying to restructure the game against a fair swathe of opposition. So you can see how it happened.

The current rules are simply not fit for purpose though. Not accurate, not clear.

Their I was thinking he transferred to ACFC for the OFC after the Nix.  

Forgot ACFC are an International team. lol 

But of course he couldnt play for ACFC in the end because he played for TW and Phoenix in summer season meaning they were his permitted 2 clubs.

And on a side note how many local Wellington players played for TW last season????

The simple answer or explanation is that they were written by lawyers, to be interpreted by lawyers.

 

If they were written by lawyers, they weren't very good ones.

Didn't NZF use Frank's mate's firm in Auckland? Small shop, does mostly private client stuff?
