Terrible player!

Has the touch of an average amateur and the vision of a dead horse and only slight quicker.

Pleased for the guy, but another example of the fact Ricki knows jack shit about midfield players.

Some tough calls on here.  Well done to Jake on turning pro.  Should never have been an All White though but good luck to him.

I wouldn't downplay this league and good on him.I have seen a bit of it and technically it's not to bad at all.

Christie trailed there and couldn't get a gig

Using Christies name to show how hard it is to get a gig is a push for credibility.

I said good on him... i just think he's shite.

Nah I'm happy for him, and really don't understand the critics here. What I don't understand is why more kiwis don't try and do this. There's plenty all through the ASB who could be playing in these leagues, you could even play pro footy in the equador 2nd division ... it wouldn't be that good but it pays more than ASB prem. or do most kiwis think they're too good or something so stay in NZ, work 40hrs a week that isn't footy and then train on top of that? Overseas players don't have any probs travelling the world trialling for clubs in crap leagues. I'm always amazed at the different nationalities playing in tiny leagues all over the globe

Stuart Kelly of Canterbury United and Cashmere Technical is a good example (Scottish-born with NZ residency) - has  played for eleven clubs in Europe, NZ, Australia and Asia - most recently overseas last year with Khonkaen (Thailand) and OP and PK37 (Finland) - teams in the second tier leagues of those countries..

His clubs:

1997-2001    Rangers (Scotland) - youth team and reserves 0 (0)
2001-2002    Shettleston (Scotland) 58 (44)
2002-2004    East Stirlingshire (Scotland) Third Division (now League Two) 53 (21)
 2004–2007  Canterbury United 66 (24)
2008        Oakleigh Cannons FC (Victorian Premier) 14 (3)
2008–2009   South Melbourne FC (VPL) 10 (2)
2009–2010   Otago United 25 (11)
2010–2011 Auckland City FC 26 (10)
2011–2013  Khonkaen (Thailand) - second tier 22 (6)
Oulun Palloseura (loan)  - second tier Finland                                                               3 (0)
                     Pallo-Kerho 37 (loan)  - third tier Finland                                                                 10 (0)
2014              Canterbury United 14 (0

probably because the money is quite good. Otherwise what else has it got going for it? One club getting good crowds.....?

'Fraid not. But Jason Hayne, Fisher, & co. seem to be happy staying there.

Justin Pasfield has signed there too so you'd expect he is getting more than what he was on in the A-league.

I only remember former All White Alun Evans of Chrischurch told me with relish in about 1997 that he was on $60,000 per annum playing state league in Australia at that time and made money from a day job too...unsurprisingly, I don't think he ever came back here to live...

S-League teams can spend a maximum of S$85,000/month on player wages with a squad of 18-20 players.

They also have a 'star player' that falls outside the salary cap.
