The Wood of 12-14 would have scored one or both of them.  Like Jeremy he does score some class goals from range.  Pity his engine wasn't quite there yet in 2010.

On another note, I really hope Mr Brockie breaks his AW duck as he's about our only striker in the squad now.

I find it quite hard to remember most of it actually. I blame this:

Used his engine to beat Cannavaro then curled his shot just wide of post instead of just inside. Big shame. Adrenalin? He (and we) would have gone down in history, like those bizarre Nth Koreans who beat Italy in '66.

You could probably argue that moment was pretty much the end of Cannavaro as a world class defender....

What moment was better; Fallon's goal against Bahrain or Reid's against Slovakia ?

I think that goal against Slovakia was better. I remember burning my hand on cigarettes during the celebration. Was insane. All 10 of us kiwi supporters packed into a bar in japan. Was great

Fallon's. If you were there as one of the 35,000 Kiwis packed into the Caketin. Also insane.

Sadly I couldn't travel home for the game. Lived in country so watched the goal alone.. Maybe took some of it away

Reid for me hands down.

Watched it at the Walkie in Shebu with Aussies, Poms, Yanks, Czechs, Slovaks, Germans, Italians and others.  It showed the world that we deserved to be there, especially the Europeans and South Americans who were panning us left, right and centre.

Reid's. First point at a WC. Last minutes make it more special. And being there to witness it.

Yeah think its the being there that makes the Fallon goal better for mine. But if you were somewhere awesome for the Reid goal ( or  at the game) then that would probably top it. But I was just watching it at home.

Watched both of them at home verses live. The Fallon goal was gold but hoped for/expected to a point. Thereafter it was all nerves until the end of the game. The tension probably diluted the goal. The Reid goal, was on the real stage, where we were severe underdogs, scored at the end where thereafter there was no nerves, just an explosion of euphoria. For mine it is Reid.

Smeltz's vs Italy was pretty close to the other two I reckon. After snatching a last minute equalizer against Slovakia I was certain our WC had peaked and Italy and Paraguay would romp past us, so when we took an earlier lead it ws so unexpected and it felt like a fairytale in the making!

Three points for a win (from 1994)

Three (rather than two) points for a win were introduced into the English Football League in 1981 in a bid to encourage more attacking play.

It gradually made its way into most other major leagues over the next decade and a half, but was not adopted at a World Cup until 1994, after negative tactics marred the 1990 tournament.

What happened next? It made no difference in 1994, 2002 or 2006, when the same teams would have qualified from the group stage under two points for a win.

However, in 1998, Paraguay would have finished top of Group D ahead of Nigeria, which would have given them different opposition in the second round, when both teams bowed out.

In 2010, New Zealand - undefeated after drawing all three group games - would have qualified for the second round in place of Slovakia, who lost to the Netherlands in round two.

From BBC article on the new rules and/or innovations introduced at world cups. http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/27870956

Points out that we would have made it through to the next round under the old system. Stupid FIFA ruin everything!

Quite right!

Maybe a bit of brain damage on my part, maybe just how I played it at the time (I always wondered why the coach would keep yelling at me to play in my position).
