Happened to catch the sport on One News last night and in reporting on the thrashing yesterday they said something like "all is not lost for Celtic, there is a return leg in November and they will need to score 8 goals to progress." Do they not understand it's a group stage and not the 2 leg knockout rounds yet?

It's One News. You've answered your own question there.

Yeah would have thought the news would have some understanding of that, it's not like it's a new thing. But as Buffon said, it's One News.

On Bein 2 just now I watched "Footballs Greatest Teams" and this episode was about the Lisbon Lions. Excellent interviews with the still surviving players. I wish the Nix would have the same passion and pride that these old fellas still have. It was an excwllent documentary.

Not a good week at all for teams called Rangers from Scotland.

First, the new club (previously known as "Sevco") knocked out of Europe in their first-ever tie by the 4th best side from Luxembourg, and then the old club ("Rangers In Liquidation") found guilty of tax avoidance through they way they used Employee Benefit Trusts.

Will be interesting to see how the #stripthetitles movement goes now...I believe it's something like 14 trophies that could potentially be removed/reallocated.

Only two points off Hibs in third and with two games in hand. They won't win it but can still play European football if things turn around.

Rangers are a shambles from top to bottom at the moment. Making poor decisions in the boardroom, poor decisions with managers and poor decisions with signings.

I am amazed Rangers are still pulling in such huge crowds: their loyal supporters deserve better than the dross they are being served up by the current charlatans running/ruining the club.

If the fans started boycotting games I wouldn't blame them tbh

Dens Park is such a great footy stadium. Did Archibald Leitch design the main stand: sure looks like one of his stands

If you think Phoenix get in trouble trying to play it out from the back too much, you should've Dundee against Celtic last night! Defender trying to pass and putting Griffiths through one on one is never ideal!

Celtic have certainly bounced back well after getting pumped by Hearts, but not surprising given the players they have. Young winger came on for Celtic in first half after injury, Michael Johnston looks good too. Armstrong was absolutely horrific when he came on though.

Old Firm game this morn was excellent. End to end stuff, great saves from both keepers too

Rangers totally dominated the 2nd half and it was only the celtic keeper that stopped Rangers from winning.

Great game!

I disagree: there are a whole bunch of interesting clubs in Scotland (and even England if you include Berwick Rangers). Some real decent grass roots clubs too

When Rangers dropped down to the bottom tier it was a real eye opener to many who got to see that yes, life existed outside the SPL: Character clubs, character grounds and some hardcase fans. Rangers fans got a whole new appreciation of Scottish Football in the lower tiers and their fans actually quite enjoyed the experience.

Obviously the problem with Scottish footy is that Cellic are streets ahead of everyone financially so the league is over before a ball is even kicked.

Another problem is that because of the small number of teams in each division it means everyone plays everyone else like 4 times a season: not ideal.

Personally I would rather check out Arbroath v Montrose standing on the terraces wit on a cold friday night with a couple hundred others and a haggis or three than watch Bournemouth v Huddersfield in a legoland stadium with everyone eating prawn sandwhiches and clapping politely :D

Arbroath has an awesome coastal stadium with a hedge along one side. On a sunny day it looks picture perfect. I used to keep an eye on the results for Brechin City and also Meadowbank Thistle. Rooting for the underdogs I guess, bit like supporting QPR & the Nix.

I would like to see Scottish football revert to two divisions of twenty teams, 3 up and 3 down at seasons end.

Dundee United lost 6-1 to Falkirk the other day, that kicked my 2018 off to a great start.

I've been meaning to start posting such scores in the 'Championship' thread, given it doesn't specify which Championship league it's about.

Unfortunately the top Scottish league is like nearly all leagues these days and dominated by teams with more money.

FFS you'd think being on a football forum of a team on the other side of the world would be enough to get away from being reminded about my teams awful result, but no there just as to be that one Scumdee fan!!! FTD ;-)

Does it really matter?

Ignore Celtic and it's competitive. The Derbies are what makes the SPL anyway just as much as the table, the division of the teams is much more cultural than you get over here.

Celtic vs Rangers are obviously Catholic vs Protestant. To a lesser extent the same thing exists with Hibernian and Hearts, and Dundee United vs Dundee - although that's more Irish vs Scotish than Catholic vs Protestant.

that's absolute b00locks yes Dundee United were originally called Dundee Hibs but that was a long long time ago, they've been Dundee United since 1923 and there is no irish connection anymore. Also unlike Glasgow and Edinburgh there is no religious connection to the teams in Dundee either

If Dundee United was a catholic team why on earth would they play in Tangerine (Orange)?

Farked if I know. The guy was pretty passionate about it. Especially when he found out I used to go see Hibbs play, maybe he was just odd.

Your point? With the exception of Leicester and Blackburn, both of which will never happen again in my lifetime, the winner of the EPL has come from a very small number of clubs every year. If Celtic and Rangers are Scottish football, does this mean that Man Utd, Man City and Chelsea are English football? I've posted on this thread before that, if you take the time to go back through the last 20 odd years of La Liga, Bundesliga etc, the same few clubs tend to dominate these competitions year after year. 2 Clubs dominate in Scotland, for the most part 3 dominate in England, 2 in Spain, same in Germany. Scotland isn't radically different to most other countries. Cash determines, 99.9% of the time, which teams dominate the rest and in Scotland that difference between haves and have nots is far more obvious. It is patronising bollocks to say that Celtic and Rangers "are Scottish football".
