Like Rangers, Hearts and to a lesser extent Killie, Dundee was traditionally a loyalist or Protestant fan base. Celtic, Hibs and Dundee United Had A largely Catholic fan base .In times gone by there was a much greater tolerance along religious divide in Scottish Football. Only Since the casual firms of the eighties and more recently the Internet forums, where anonymity is easy, has a much greater bitterness crept in.

They are nice "Homely" stadiums, not spectacular but where a fan would feel part of a family, not just another number amongst the 70,000. I love grounds like these two in the photos.

Same. I'd rather go to a cool, old school football ground that oozes history and Character rather than to some corporate concrete bowl that looks like the millions of other ones.

Ayr United's Somerset Park is a beauty:

Broadcasts of Scottish football started this weekend on beIN Sport on Sky.

I'm currently watching a replay of Partick vs. Celtic on beIN Sport 2.

The game wasn't on the on-screen schedule but started after the Barcelona replay.

Watched Dundee vs Motherwell just now. FML.

Pretty awful. I laugh still though in one of the threads here that Scott McDonald would have to 'get up to speed with the A-League' because he's played in Scotland for the last decade. And most posters agreed with it.

People who say that sort of thing have obviously not watched Scottish football. The pace is often extreme, the physicality is huge, the quality is disappointing...

I've seen interviews from a few guys from 'down south' who have gone up to Scotland who have said, 'eep', it took a bit to get used to the pace of the game in Scotland etc. (even if the quality was not better).

On the other thread I left the argument on the pace of Scottish football etc, as I hate arguing about this on a thread it's irrelevant. But... I also hate stupid opinions like that.

Nope, they guy doing Rangers V Celtic was great, the guy doing the Arsenal game was so bad he shouldn't even do pub football.

one good game does not make up for the incredibly poor standard of refereeing that they have to put up with in Scotland, it really is bad and seems to be getting worse

It's interesting now we can see Scottish Premier League matches on beIN Sport to compare the standard to other leagues we are familiar with.

The atmosphere of the Old Firm game on the weekend was amazing - incredibly passionate fans.

But the standard of the game was pretty average.

Better than the best A-League sides - which you'd expect considering the much larger budgets Celtic and Rangers have to work with.

But no better than average English Championship sides based on that game.

None of the players would make the "Best 22 of All Time" for either side, let alone "Best Eleven"

Added interest comes from seeing so many former A-League players like Rogic and our own A-Rod (been getting minutes for Mothewell recently).

beIN have Scottish Premier League highlights every Monday night now (labelled "SPFL Highlights")

Good results this morning for Celtic & Rangers in the Europa League. Been a few years since any Scottish club in the Europa group stages I think?

Seems that Arzani didn't make Celtic's Europa League squad, but still expect he'll get some game time in Scotland on rotation or as a backup. Rogic was probably older than Arzani when he went to Celtic and it took him a fair while to really get a shot. Celtic are quite strong out wide.

Just found this thread. League is nice and exciting this season. Newco huns been getting the rub of the green but both dons and celtic picked up after slow starts. Can't wait for the boxing day game. Should be a cracker.

And avril levein, what a moaning butt hurt bastardo ?

Celtic were wasteful against Dundee and could have been a cricket score if they didn't faff around. St Johnstone were unlucky from the highlights I saw.

I can see Lennon getting Hibs up for Gers. Think the Dons may have enough to beat Celtic at home.

Should be a good round.

And the keeper isn't even that good! Lost Bain last season. Dundee having worst season in years, disasterous, but Celtic were playing really really well that match. Only a couple of weeks ago Dundee comfortably held Rangers when down to 10 men for over 60 minutes (could've won if it wasn't for horrific decision on the red). Best player Kamara is probably off in the window to Rangers/Celtic or a decent English club. And didn't help with Caulker off at the start of the season.

Where did caulker go to in the summer? I completely missed that one. Was expecting a tougher game against you the other week after some good results. Although, we seemed to have clicked finally, just hope it continues today. Really hoping kamara doesn't head Glasgow way...

Caulker used some clause in his contract to leave, but not sure he's actually playing anywhere currently. Bit of a shambles as we turned down a club record offer for him not that long before!!

Dundee vs Aberdeen was tight at the start of the year, thought we could've won it actually. When Aberdeen can get their wide players going can be devastating, as happened the other week.

Caulker can be found in a bar near you! Wasting his talent as a very good center back.

Ah well, wasn't to be our day yesterday. Not sure why mcinnes felt the need to change the team for what should have been a straight swap for McGinn. Left us completely overrun on the flanks and in the middle. Shinnie is not a midfielder, despite what he thinks. What makes it more frustrating was that they were clearly there for the taking. Hence the 3 goals. But our defence was hopeless.

Not a great result for the dees today! Saints seem a tough nut to crack.

Dundee were really terrible, St Johnstone should've gone 2+ up earlier. Been about the worst we've been all season the last few matches,  going backwards. If did manage to finish second bottom, could end up a Dundee vs Dundee Utd promotion/relegation playoff game which would be epic.

Wonder with Celtic how much Brendan Rodgers really wants to be there still after the club wouldn't back him on the transfer market.

fixed it for you :-)

would love to beat you in a playoff, especially after you sent us down! but when we can't even beat Alloa can't see it happening. suppose it depends on what our new owner does with his chequebook over the january transfer window

Thank god for the Nix actually playing football, this winter break lark is a waste of time. Especially since weather is never this bad at this time of year in Scotland!
