Not only is the NZ government putting money into this but apparently the Prime Minister called various heads of federations personally to try and get their votes. Royz is just being Royz here.

What's the deal with the Christchurch, I thought their new stadium wouldn't be ready before 2024? And it would be quite embarrassing to play games at that rickety temporary monstrosity they have right now.
I agree, seems sad that the Chch stadium will probably be complete in 2024, 1 year on from the world cup. I hope there is someway we can fast track it so it ready in time.

Interesting, I'd heard that the plan was for the opening game to be played at Eden Park. Defo would be a shame if Aus got both games.

Na. It has the inaugural match which is defined as the first game in Aus. The opening match is set for Eden Park. Though FIFA decide these things so who knows.

Without being too negative if I was NZF I'd be cautious, about trying to host half the games (28/29) in NZ.
Thats alot comparing our 5M popn to Aussie's 25M odd. Most parts of Oz have better weather in July/August as well.

OFC will have 1.5 spots for this World Cup, and that doesn't include us as hosts. So yes, there'll be at least one PI nation in the cup.

Edit: Seems slot allocation for the expanded tournament hasn't been done. Would imagine it won't be more than 1, especially as they have to adjust to accomodate two hosts).

undeserving at a WORLD cup? The World cup is the best from each region, so whoever wins the Oceania region is completely deserving to be there.
When El Salvador lost 10-1 to Hungary in the 1982 mens world cup or Saudi Arabia lost 8-0 to Germany in the 2002 Mens World Cup were they undeserving of being at the world cup?

The AWs winning OFC qualifying doesn't grant automatic entry to a Men's 32 team World Cup.
There will be any number of Euro women's teams esp who will miss out on 2023 WWC, who could just as easy put 5-10 goals on PNG, Fiji or whoever.
The Ferns only have a world ranking of 23, and at the 2018 OFC WC qualifying in the heat of Noumea, they cakewalked New Caledonia in their semi 8-0, and Fiji in the final 8-0.
But yeah hopefully a 2023 downunder WWC is the driver, for a large investment in women's football in the Island Nations.
Also David Dome said that a Nix W League team (and academy) would look to recruit a few of the better Island Women's players, so that's a good thing and will help. But not sure it will make a huge difference in as little as 3 years.
A reasonable idea would be for FIFA/OFC to setup 10 scholarships to Ole, for most promising girls across OFC.
Only way theyre gonna get better is by playing more competitive games at this level. While they might get wallopped in these early years, they'll learn from it and be better off in future. Im sure Thailand have learnt a heck of a lot from 2019.

Maybe we should move a number of OFC women's teams into say the AFC, so American Samoa can qualify for WWC out of OFC. That would be a great feelgood story.

For sure playing better quality teams is part of the journey, to improving standards. But getting a serious of large hidings, and just learning various ways to park the bus - can also be detrimental long term.
Ben Sigmund I remember talked about being with the New Zealand U-17 team that was at the U-17 World Cup in 1997. He said it was a disaster, they lost all three games, conceding 22 goals, which included a 13-0 hiding from Spain.
The way he told the story, was that he learnt squat, the team mostly felt embarrassed/humiliated with some serious mental scars. I think a few of the boys even gave up football, when they returned home.
Much greater progress will be made by FIFA investment in quality programmes in the Islands (bleeding obvious), and getting a number of girls scholarships to Weenix Academy (esp if W League gets up and going), and/or Ole.
And yeah if a Nix W League team signed some senior Island players that would also be a massive boost.

The U17 team you mention is probably not the best example as there were serious issues with the coaching and while the players may not have learnt much I think its fair to say NZF did as can be seen by the performance and preparation for subsequent tournaments (PNG aside)
If you are going to have a World Cup every one of your full member confederations should have at least one direct qualifying spot
