What are the regs / rules around entry into to the CCL. Do you have to win the league below, have a reserve team, pitch / changing rooms etc???

As far as I know from a few years ago clubs just entered the league as no promotion is required. Differs from other divisions

SAS home pitch is a new sand based one at the revamped St Albans Park complete with new building for changing rooms etc.

It's good to see a couple of the SAS junior mini league player from years past coming back and playing seniors for the club.

Do they need to get a 1st team coach & manager for 2019 season didn't seem to have anyone 2018 season.

Training may help them.

SAS training twice a week and a full pre season?

On the positive side there must be a few players around with plenty of MPL experience that don't want to train twice a week but still would like a run out at a level above social grade as Div 1 [SAS Div 1 last season with rolling subs like masters] seems to be.

Got told at yesterday's game that there are 8 players at Chch Utd who will be on a $250 per week fee plus each will receive $5000 if the team gets promoted. Each! What the hell is even going on here?

I think Christchurch Utd should look to bring in a Sunday League team on similar wages.

Paying mercenaries expenses is ok to a point, but when they have been tapping up,enticing boys however you wish to put it as young as year 10 then surely it is time for mainland to get involved.

Any young player (and their parents) looking to head off to attend a college (Unversity) should walk away from any payment(s) being offered as if the college become aware of it they will be considered a 'pro player' an any scholarship would be withdrawn.

Hopefully any club, or club offical would not be offering any payments which would put at risk a players future both on an off the park for playing in any local league.

It also makes a bloody joke for their player pathways which they obviously have no confidence in as they have just discarded last years team plus any "future stars" to offer stupid money to players other clubs have developed that they must see as vastly superior to ChCh Utd's.

It certainly would not be the club I'd send my kids to for their future development - it is another example of how flawed the "superior club" model is.

ChCh Utd should actually have been wound up years ago as it was a team put together for the best players in Christchurch to play in the good old days of the National League & a number of ChCh clubs actually had shares in it - maybe they still do & should ask for for their money back since they obviously have money to burn!!.When the national league shut down & their players went to other clubs they were no better than any of the old Southern League clubs.

So the great history ChCh Utd keep wking on about it is basically no different to the Canterbury Utd set up of today - Except the teams of the 70's & 80's were genuinely bloody good & a pleasure to watch.

I can see some of the more agricultural teams in the CCL taking great please in kicking the shark out of them during the season!!

Yes can remember when the Women's Premier League allowed rolling subs, I counted one coach slowing the game down by having 20 subs during one game.

If they are going to allow rolling subs (not that I think they should) in the MPL Reserves and CCL Reserves then better if there is a limit in each half. Rolling subs does not do alot to lift the fitness of a player in a competitive league.

From UC Football facebook page:

UC Football is excited to introduce Adam Searle as the newly appointed Head Coach of our Men’s CCL team. Adam spent last season with Waimak Utd as their CCL head coach but makes a welcome return to Uni having previously coached our Men’s Reserves in 2017. Adam’s knowledge and experience of the CCL league will be a great asset as we look to make a return to the Mainland Premier League. Adam is also currently working with the Mainland U16s squad in preparation for the upcoming National age group tournament in Wellington this December.
We are glad to have him back on board and are looking forward to an exciting new chapter for Universities in 2019.

We would also like to wish the outgoing Jesse Rawlings well in his new role with Coastal Spirit. Jesse has made an enormous positive impact on the club during his four-year tenure as coach, committee member and Sunday League midfield maestro and will be sorely missed. All the best!

This is confirmed. And they MUST have a reserves team in the CCL Reserves (regulation changes confirmed last night for the CCL Reserves to match the MPL i.e. clubs must have one).

Possible 7 team CCL team based upon last years teams (3 rounds). But could change depending what happens with the South Island league - to be confirmed by the end of this week.

Do Nelson have to have a reserves in the MPL then as this is where it messes things up?

Hearing the SAS is around 80% of Christchurch Utd for the last couple of seasons so that explains where they are getting the reserve team from

Sorry, to be clearer - Reserves regulations (MPL and CCL) only apply to Canterbury/Christchurch teams. I believe it does not apply to Nelson United. Which is why the bottom placed team in the MPL (the one relegated) still keeps their Reserve team in the MPL Reserves for the next year.

From Waimak...

Dear Members,

I'm very pleased to announce that Mainland Football have accepted our application for a Regional League, and Regional Youth League Club Licence. It will be approved subject to some audits they want to conduct before 28 February 2019. We are very confident we will achieve full approval.

Upon full approval granted at the end of February, Waimak will gain automatic entry of one team into each of the Mainland Football Premier Youth Division 1, 13th Grade, 14th Grade and 15th Grade Leagues.

We are very pleased about this as a Club and a big thank you to Mainland Football for working closely with us on this.

Kind regards

Owen Hallmark

As it’s relevant here and taken from MPL thread:

Interesting developments on the league structure this year!

2019 MPL Promotion/relegation (for 2020)

The MPL & CCL will play two (2) full rounds.

The five (5) highest placed MPL teams at the completion of the second round will then compete in the 2019 Southern Football League.

The three (3) lowest placed MPL teams will compete with the seven (7) CCL teams, playing a full round.

All teams will retain points gained in their respective competitions.

At the completion of the round the highest placed CCL team (total number of points gained) will be eligible for probation as per 9.1 and the MPL team with the fewest combined points will be relegated.

The question here though is does this mean the CCL will start the same time as MPL? If so are there enough pitches available?

My point is the 6th and 7th placed MPL teams may very well get relegated the way I read this, particularly if they are taking there measly points total and goal difference into a one round winner takes all where the leading CCL team will start with a massive points advantage (I'm reading probation to mean promotion). Pretty helter skelter way to build a Premier competition. Tell me if I'm wrong?

If I'm not wrong can someone tell me how this equitable and forward looking decision was arrived at?

You have not quite got it right. The final round is all CCL plus the 3 lowest MPL teams. All points carried over from each separate previous CCL and MPL rounds. This defines the CCL winner who gets promotion (or play off with Nelson/Marlborough team). The lowest of the 3 MPL teams gets relegated. Sort of 2 competitions within the last round. Better than last year with the 3 lowest MPL's playing each other. And it means all games have relevance.

Also CCL starts 16 March.

Thanks for clarifying that Murray - so if Burwood win the 2 round CCL with 42 (good luck by the way) points they take those points into the final 10 team one round competition but are not the playoff contender at the completion of the 2 round CCL?

The relegated team is the last placed MPL team after the end of season 1 round combined CCL/MPL competition and the other 2 MPL teams are safe regardless of where they end up on the ladder?

Last years decision by the way was an absolute disgrace, my understanding was it came about because that's what CCL clubs wanted but Mainland needed to jump on that and tell them to suck it up and go with a 10 team comp. Someone should have been sacked for letting that happen. Again my apologiees if I'm wrong to the sacked person.

Could it have been that the format hasn’t been thought through properly last year and the CCL teams had recognised that? This does seem to have been thought through better this year and makes more sense

Yes to your first points 2 above. All points count in the season.

Regarding your comment on who decided last years bottom MPL. This was NOT the CCL clubs decision, in fact it was the MPL teams decision (I was at the meeting). All the CCL clubs made it quite clear that a 3 team group was a poor decision (I said it was bad enough that CCL has only 6 teams and we play each other every 6 weeks. It would be even worse with 3 teams).

So if Nelson finish 6th all CCL teams have agreed to go there? I like the idea FYI, as long as it doesn't have anything to do with us.

Yep - all agreed. "Pretty good road trip" was the comment of one of my players.

Been hearing that SAS had 59 players attend their 1st session on Monday with a number of MPL players from the last season plus a large number of Chch Utd players from last season too

Numbers need to be up at that number as SAS have 3 senior teams this year CCL, CCL Res, Div1.

St Albans Park still being kept fenced so SAS are using English Park in the intrim.

Pre season game v Selwyn set for weekend after next not next weekend as Dragons game on Saturday at English Park.
