Heh, I listen to podcasts at 1.6 speed quite often and didn't even notice that this one was sped up

I edit the podcast at 1.5x speed so it doesn't take me a full hour to listen back each time. This time I missed one of the 'clips' when I reverted it back to normal speed, so the first 7 minutes were left at the faster speed, serves me right for releasing the pod at midnight when I desperately needed sleep.

Fixed now - if you want the fixed file I suggest deleting the episode off your phone and redownloading.

I've heard people do that but hadn't tried myself before, now I have.

Thanks for your hard work Patrick.  It wasn't unlistenable so I still enjoyed it :)

I think “wasn’t unlistenable” is the best review the pod has ever received.

Two pods this week! One today, and one tomorrow.

The first is part two of the season preview, and the pod go through the other ten A-League clubs and analyse the squad changes and make predictions about table places.

Good to hear the discussion on all the clubs. Hopefully mentioning a Berisha hat trick will whammy him to not score at all on Sunday!

Certainly good to get another voice on there.

The 3 guys are good but they often agree with each other.

Would be interesting to get a some contrary opinions happening to stir discussion.

If she's happy to continue, she's very welcome.

Lets be honest, we need diversity.  Two middle age white guys and one 30 year old white guy, adding any other demographic is good.  The fact she is a journalist and knowledgeable is awesome

Shaun Gill, Phoenix football operations manager, drops by the podcast to chat about some of the behind the scenes work that his job in the football department entails, such as the process that goes into scouting and signing players and the management of the salary cap. Meanwhile, the Nix went down 1-0 to the Snakes and face a tough trip to Sydney this weekend, and Capital get their first win of the season in the NWL.

Awesome pod. Couple of bits of Feedback. Loved hearing from Gilly, some backroom information as to the operations really interests me personally. Also Ella, keep that girl on, I love the Women side that she brings, I know she is a bit quieter in phoenix talk but i dont mind that, when she does talk she shines, my only feedback to her would be to slow down a bit, when she talks it can sometimes come across as a bit of a machine gun blap-blap-blap break, blap blap blap break which is fine with in person talking but over media can make it hard for the listener to concentrate on.

Overall loving the pod lately team keep the guests coming!

I'll add to this

Shaun has a lot of good stuff to say, interspersed with long drawn in breaths that make him sound like he is toking something. Makes it a hard listen when its so loud. Anyway to mute that?

We do our best with the equipment that we have, and sometimes that means that things like this happen.

We'll never be the quality of a professional podcast because we just don't have the money to afford microphones that will solve issues like these, or the time to record in a recording studio where we can control audio completely rather than in someone's office like we do now. I do my best in the editing software make the podcast sound as close to professional as it can be, but money really is the limiting factor here.

I really enjoyed Gill, the info about Boyd and the training compensation information as well as the confirmation that there's attachments to Singhs contract (including both the reserves and first team) was great.

Did he hint behind the scenes that a huge signing was imminent?

It's completely fine and comparable to most other podcasts I listen to tbh. Wouldn't worry too much..

Most interesting thing is him saying Libby has a 2 year contract?! Wonder if that was a mistake.

Also, amazing restraint not mentioning anything about the Hooper signing.

Off the record is off the record for a reason. If he had said anything we certainly wouldn't be putting it out in the public forum; we need to continue a good relationship with the club, and burning a source would definitely ruin that

In saying that, Gilly didn't tell us about Hooper signing the next day, and we didn't go down that route because the window had closed. Sign of a man who takes his job and club commitments seriously

Also why are we saying Pis-cop-o. Isn’t more like Pis-co-po, like the actor Joe Piscopo?

That was a fantastic pod.  I had fun listening for any hint of him mentioning the signing but man he played nothing to be excited about well.

I thought there may have been a vague, keep an eye on the news, or something like that but not a peep.

Excellent pod as always and as others have said Ella is a great addition to the pod.

Thanks team

Cam - the reason for the handball changes is because players have perfected the ‘art’ of throwing their arms out in situations that could ‘look’ like natural movement but is in fact, very deliberate. While not practiced to the same extent in this part of the world, it was creeping in.

Do I agree with it? Hmm I can understand your point but simply put, don’t make yourself larger in the PA. This is the effect when better players in bigger leagues do this and the effect of rulings designed to stop that, trickle down. In this new day, that’s a penalty whether anyone likes it or not.

Reckon this new interpretation could become the new "dive". In or around the box, it's going to become worth the gamble of smashing the ball into defenders in the hope of getting a pen.

This.

It lends support to playing long ball football too
