I say Jamaica on Waitangi day, seeing as how that's also Bob Marley's birthday. Get Katchafire or someone similar to play a gig before hand and bring in that Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party demographic

Arranging friendlies against Caribbean nations is pretty hard - the Caribbean is pretty much the toughest place to get to from NZ (and vice versa), so it's simply not practical to do something along those lines.

The only way it's feasible is if it's played on the neutral ground, maybe in the US or in Europe.

Always possible, Mexico and a lot of South American nations play 'home' games in the US. England could be another possibility as a lot of the Caribbean players are English based/born nationals.

Yep, that's exactly what I was thinking of.

Was just commenting that the Waitangi Day friendly here would be tough to organise. Although it would be super-cool if it could be done.

I think we have a better chance of  arranging home friendlies in the northern hemisphere off-season, but NZF have said there will be a Waitangi day game in NZ this year. Sadly being so far away from anywhere really screws our chances at arranging games here.Maybe we will paly Indonesia or Malaysia or something.

In terms of playing T&T or Jamaica what might work in our favour is that the CONCACAF sides will probably be just as interested in playing us as we are in playing them. Also, I expect we will play Japan soonish seeing as how we were going to and then they had that whole tsunami/nuclear apocalypse thing go down. Maybe next winter we can get a friendly or two against some of the European sides that didn't make it into Euro 2012

China. Their new coach is a moron but will hopefully develop younger talent next year.  AWs should be able to take them if it is played in NZ.  Would also fancy our chances witha anear full strength squad over in China.

American Samoa are on a roll with a win and a draw at the recent OFC Stage 1 World Cup Qualifiers.

I`m sure they would be up for a game!

... and they hava a fa'afafine in central defence - not that that has anything to do with anything, I just thought it was interesting

MANILA (10 Dec 2011) The Philippines national team are looking at taking on either Malaysia or Vietnam in a friendly in February following the withdrawal of New Zealand.

Initially, the Philippines were hoping that they can play New Zealand as part of their preparation for the AFC Challenge Cup in Kathmandu, Nepal but the Kiwis have turned it down citing prior engagement.

So it sounds like we have all but locked down a friendly against a CONCACAF opponent in February, to be played in Europe. Fingers crossed that it can be finalised, but if so that is great news imo

If the Nix-GCU game is changed from 4 March, I guess it will mean another Wed night match in March - 7th?

Interesting. Personally think a game against Canada would be pretty cool.

Hopefully this game is played in London, been a while since I've seen the boys in the same country that I live in... fingers crossed for Canada, would love Jamaica too if available.

i think this is probably more a case of loose lips.

nzf should be credited for notifying clubs of pending matches and POSSIBLE selection well in advance.

Will be a hectic bit of travel for Rickie and the Nix AW's.
The Nix play Sydney away on the 25th of Feb....then they have to get to London to face Canada on the 29th then back to Wellington to face GC at home on the 4th March.....barely a week between A-League games and a game in london in the middle.

I guess that Rickie will call heavily on the Northern Hemisphere guys. Gleeson, Winston, Boxall, Smith, Wood, Fallon, Barbarouses maybe Keat

Who would go from here? McGinchey, Smeltz, Brown, Leo, Locky, Rojas, Paston?

I think Leo and Brown would be a waste of space on this trip but those two seem to RH golden boys.

When exactly does Daniel qualify for selection.?

In his present form he would be worth a slot on the left side of midfield. Certainly one of the better dead ball players( with no Elliot we need someone...please not Leo)

5-year residence means nothing if he's not a NZ national.

Being an Australian citizen he can become a NZ resident walking through the airport.

But as i'm sure you aware, he doesn't become a citizen by walking through said airport.
