Surely not a joke.  That would be cruel.  So White Noise tour???   Could add in an MLS game while over there.

Can't see any reason why that would be a joke, good news!

Seems to subtle to be a joke. Wouldn't it be high profile opposition if they were taking the piss?

Still news in the afternoon, so it is real

""It's been a good week in terms of our planning with confirmation of the Solomon Islands for the OFC Nations Cup and now these two matches," said All Whites coach Ricki Herbert.

"The US tour will provide valuable preparation for some of our players who will be out of season, and given the geographical spread it is also an opportunity to work with an extended group in the build-up to the Solomons," Herbert continued.

"To get two international matches of this stature is crucial to our preparation for the Solomons in terms of the heat and getting through international matches with a short rest period between matches. We could then look to continue our preparation in a place like Brisbane en-route to the islands," Herbert added.

MANILA (10 Dec 2011) The Philippines national team are looking at taking on either Malaysia or Vietnam in a friendly in February following the withdrawal of New Zealand.

Initially, the Philippines were hoping that they can play New Zealand as part of their preparation for the AFC Challenge Cup in Kathmandu, Nepal but the Kiwis have turned it down citing prior engagement.

can NZ re-arrange friendly with Philippines?
they finished 3rd in AFC Challenge Cup

seems good preparation against Pacific nations in forthcoming OFC Nations Cup

Silly midday games. I'm not going to miss out on watching the games but I'm sure a lot of people will be.

Especially the Thursday one, can't imagine sky will want to buy the rights if no one's going to watch it.  Maybe delayed coverage of that game and live for the other.

Actually Texas in late May will be quite similar to the Solomons in early June in terms of average daily high temperatures but the humidity levels will be significntly higher in the Solomons, as will "dew point" or how the heat and humidity are experienced:

TEXAS WEATHER IN LATE MAY:

Average high temperature May 25 : 30 degrees celcius (Solomons: 31 degrees in June))

Average high relative humidity May 25: 87 % (Solomons: 98 % but up to 100 %)

Dew Point: (Dew point is often a better measure of how comfortable a person will find the weather than relative humidity because it more directly relates to whether perspiration will evaporate from the skin, thereby cooling the body. Lower dew points feel drier and higher dew points feel more humid):
Average high dew point May 25: 19 degrees celcius (Solomons: 25 degrees)

Expect extremely difficult conditions in the Solomons in June.

See this site for detailed analysis of Honiara weather in June:

AVERAGE WEATHER FOR HONIARA SOLOMON ISLANDS FOR JUNE
(based on the historical records from 1974 to 2011)
Honiara has a tropical rainforest climate with no dry season.

TEMPERATURE

The month of June is characterized by essentially constant daily high temperatures, with daily highs around 31C throughout the month, exceeding 32C or dropping below 29C only one day in ten. Daily low temperatures are around 23C, falling below 22C or exceeding 24C only one day in ten.

HUMIDITY

The relative humidity typically ranges from 65% (mildly humid) to 98% (very humid) over the course of a typical June day, rarely dropping below 60% (mildly humid) and reaching as high as 100% (very humid).
[NOTE: Humidity of 98% experienced nearly every day in June!!!]

DEW POINT

Over the course of a typical June, the dew point typically varies from 22 degrees C (very muggy) to 25 degrees C (oppressive) and is rarely below 21 degrees C (muggy0 or above 26 degrees C (oppressive).

Last midday fixture played in Merica was broadcast live on sky (i remember as i went home from work sick to watch it at the pub), as was a previous late afternoon/early evening fixture (both vs. Mexico)

edit: and besides didnt Sky and NZF sign a new agreement not so long ago that they would now show all games live? Im sure i saw this on the YF homepage at some stage

IIRC, the deal was all home games, and Round 2 of World Cup qualifiers.

26 May Honduras (N)

1-10 June OFC Nations Cup, Solomon Islands

I think the All Whites will play Trinidad and Tobago and Canada both at Craven Cottage on the 15 August and 14 November matches, because they need to know about the CONCACAF sides.

Um why not? They are in CONCACAF aren't they? Or is it because they are just too crap at the moment to be likely playoff contenders

Cheers Pete!

I seem to recall an article I read somewhere recently talking about how Panama have an exciting crop of young players coming through - could be a worry too. Still, at least we got drawn against CONCACAF and not CONMEBOL for the playoffs...

Yeah, Trinidad & Tobago were so crap they failed to make the third round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying- they're on to their third round of qualifying already (12 teams left in three groups of four). SEE:

http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/preliminaries/nccamerica/standings/index.html

THIRD ROUND CONCACAF QUALIFYING STARTS NEXT SATURDAY 9 JUNE (NZ TIME)

Remaining teams from which NZ will play fourth best: first round of stage three qualifiers:

08/06/12 14:00 Havana   Cuba     v      Canada    /

08/06/12 19:00

Mexico City   Mexico  v      Guyana   /

08/06/12 19:11

Tampa   USA   v      Antigua and Barbuda/

08/06/12 19:30

San Pedro Sula   Honduras    v  Panama  /

08/06/12 20:00

San Jose   Costa Rica     v  El Salvador  /

08/06/12 20:30

Kingston   Jamaica    v  Guatemala

FOURTH ROUND CONCACAF QUALIFYING

The fourth round will see the 3 group winners and 3 runners-up from the third round compete in a single group. The matches are scheduled to be played from 6 February to 15 October 2013.

The top three teams will qualify directly for the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals, while the fourth-placed team will enter the intercontinental play-offs.

The way the three Stage Three qualifying grups are composed, it's likely USA, Mexico and Panama will win their groups, whilst  I predict Jamaica, Costa Rica and Honduras will be the three group runners-up who will make the Fourth Round.

In the end, I predict Mexico, USA and Costa Rica will qualify directly (top three teams), leaving the All Whites to play off against either Panama, Jamaica or Honduras - and we've played two of those recently...

World Rankings: El Salvador: 49  , Jamaica: 51, Panama: 52, Costa Rica: 59, Honduras: 62, Canada: 75, Guatamala: 83

Panama and Costa Rica are of similar ability but I like the look of Costa Rica- their loss to Guatamala on Saturday was their first in eight matches and they've drawn with world champions Spain, beaten the USA and lost only 1-0 to Brazil over the last year or so. Costa Rica have a strong squad with the best overseas-based players of any in Central America- Bryan Ruiz (Fulham), Joel Campbell (Arsenal), goalie Navas (Levante, Spanish La Liga), several in Scandinavia and in MLS. They made the 2002 and 2006 World Cups too.

Some recent friendly results involving these teams: Note Honduras thrashed El Salvador 3-0 yesterday.

01.06.12     GUATAMALA  1:0 (1:0)  COSTA RICA /   25.05.12     CRC 3:2 (2:1) GUAT /   25.04.12     GUAT 0:1 (0:1) PARAGUAY /

02.06.12   EL SAL 0:3 (0:1)  HON /   26.05.12   HON 0:1 (0:1)  NZL /   11.04.12   CRC 1:1 (0:1)  HON /   01.06.12   PAN   2:1 (1:1)  JAM /    27.05.12   JAM   0:1 (0:1)  PAN /

I prodict that New Zealand will win 4-0 in the semi, Wood (2), Smeltz and Killen to score then New Zealand-Solomon Islands final 2-1 New Zealand Smeltz to score 2 goals. Smeltz will break Conveys 28 goal record by 2013.
