Reading some of these posts and seeing people state they didn't go last night because of the quality of opposition is rather pathetic. You'll gladly go to an All Blacks game against Tonga or a Sevens game against Kenya yet when it comes to our lads on the football pitch, you can't be bothered. Pathetic.
 
Totally agree.  Also the games against Malaysia for instance were not well advertised either and most crowds in AKL (which has a significant Waikato/BOP contingent) drive through AKLs tremendously bad traffic with a totally crap public transport service to get to North Harbour stadium and guess what, half the crowd is expat (English, Asian Eastern European).
 
So yeah ABs vs Portugal (yawn )
or Vanuatu who are probably more talented then we are!

Its our national team. We dont get many home matches. They should get supported, no excuses.

In yesterday's paper 6pm ko was so Chris Killen could catch a midnight flight back to Scotland...so who's fault is that?  That time just doesn't suit people.  Part of the Phoenix matches is going to the pub beforehand, catching up and then heading down to the ground.  It's a day out...well this was just paying $27 for the game and that's it.  No time for a beer, not a night out at all.  I went, but for those who are more their for the experience it was just a crappy product and at $27, no where near value for money.

How come footy supporting people dont have trouble finding $80 to watch a exhibition game but cant find $27 to watch our national team play?

Danny Hay said in his column in the Sunday news that despite the low crowd this time round, and despite being a proud Aucklander, the AWs should still play ALL their games in Wellington - bc the crowd was positive and had the right attitude ( a bit of a dig at negative auckland crowds). interesting perspective.

actually he didnt say ALL AWs games, but he said this:

"It's not just hot air when people say the Nix have a massive role to play in NZ football. Their home venue and fans are first class. I was lucky enough to be in Wellington for last week's 4-1 win against Vanuatu. While the crowd numbers were disappointing only 2500 fronted the atmosphere they generated was top notch. I'm a proud Aucklander but supporters who go to games in the City of Sails are always pretty negative. The Wellington fans were positive and supportive. It was obvious they were there for the right reasons. Wellington has done enough to earn the right to host all the All Whites' World Cup games in future."

Marketing was no existant but many are saying they didnt go due to the cost which is what I was having a dig at.

fair enough, but i think that one of the effects of marketing is not only to advise but also to persuade and that  is a factor that might have seen some folks shell out   e.g. if they believed that their mates/peer group would be going
