Sorry if this has been covered, but does anyone know where in NZ the All Whites vs New Caledonia match is going to be played.

And also earlier on in another thread someone suggested we have a football tri-nations between Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Sounds like a good idea to me, but would it be financially possible (probably not in NZF's current mess). Or perhaps an 8 team Southern Hemisphere competition with NZ, Aus, South Africa, Argentina, Indonesia, Namibia, Zaire, and, so we have a guaranteed win, some country like American Samoa

1. The game against New Caledonia will be in Auckland at the North Harbour Stadium.

2. None of these competitions will ever happen - the Africans, South Americans and Asians have extremely busy calenders and the last thing they need is a meaningless tournament spanning four different continents.

3. Zaire is known as Congo DR these days.el grapadura2008-01-27 14:50:45

Cheers for that El Grapadura.

edit: It would still be cool to have a competition like that (and I meant hosted in one country).loyalgunner2008-01-27 15:45:53

Lets just organise friendlies against Antarctica!...can you get any more of a random mix if teams???

I was picking Southern Hemisphere teams. But I would have no objection to the inclusion of Antarctica. Hey, why not South Sandwich Islands why we're at it?

I think the general concensus is that NZ football needs a meaningful comp with anyone. Whether its a tri-series type comp with higher level teams or a home and away with Aus.
Either way something has to be done to give the team a higher level of competition than the current stuff. Harder games more often.

I agree, we won't go anywhere with only soft friendlies and OFC games. The only problem with trying to replicate the Tri-nations is that SA and Australia would have no interest, they have full schedules already and with games against much better teams than us.

Sad but true - we need good opposition, but our ranking doesn't justify it, and our location makes it difficult for better teams to come here. kinda like Argentina wanting to get into either the 6 nations or tri nations with rugby.

Well you know we are under financial problems. FFA had asked NZF to co-host a package to invited teams to play both Aus and NZ but of course it was asked at the end of last year and NZF had to turn it down because of the current financial problems.

Maybe we should form a Robin Hood-type gang, steal from the rich and instead of giving the money to the poor, give it to NZF? Anyone up for it?

I vote we rob the reserve bank first. Or Winston Peters himself.
