Welcome back to Shane Smeltz, Jeremy Brockie, Michael McGlinchey and Marco Rojas. This is a national team not a Under-23 team, you can't win anything with kids, that's true. Fully support to the All Whites!!!

A ten strong support staff - only person missing was an Au Pair for the boys - too many hangers on and not enough footballers.

We will have to play 4-5-1 as only Smeltz has a scoring pedigree

- 4 goals in 110 Internationals between Brookie, Rojas, Kosta = not good enough considering we play Oceania teams.

Midfield and backs also weak.

                                                                                 Marinovic

    Boxall                                 Reid                                                            Themi                                      Doyle

                                                                          Tuiloma      Payne

     Rojas                                                                      Weemac                                                  Kosta

                                                                                       Smeltz

NZ 135 Ranked vs Myanmar 162 Ranking = 1-1, again.  Happy to be proved wrong about all of the above. A tournament or two games would be more bang for our buck - as long as everyone is eligible.

how can a friendly like this justify a 10 man support squad?

Maybe its the legal team? We got caught out in the Olympic qualifiers because our Lawyers were in Auckland and couldn't get their response in at the time.

Onehunga Sports well-represented. Looks like they might be overtaking the former powerhouse of kiwi football, Unattached FC.

Excellent use of the word "casserole" in that post Frankie.

I feel like we should be having two internationals per window. This Myanmar game doesn't seem very exciting to me. Its good to see some of the experience back in the squad though. Very evenly mixed side.

Brilliant! I've never seen 'casserole' and 'nonsense' combined with such effectiveness in the same sentence. Kudos.

Mind you, I don't think I've ever had a shark casserole either.

I digress...

With the squad available, score predictions? AW's 2 - 1 Myanmar - Smeltz with a tap in and Wood/Brockie with a late screamer.

Pretty sure Hudson addressed this previously - would rather use the extra time in camp and training - more valuable than a second game. Seems reasonable to me.

don't get that logic at all. No better practise then playing and we are not exactly flush with games.

He can take the Onehunga training or go down and ask Ernie if he can take the Nix boys for a gallop if he wants to teach them how to pass the ball

what doesn't make sense to me is him not calling up Wood, Smith and Thomas "based on injury, squad composition etc".  Sure, in order to give guys a run in the match and due to Thomas carrying a niggle, they may end up sitting on the bench but clearly match practice is NOT the point of the window otherwise they would have organised two games.

If contact time and getting the guys to gel better, understand systems etc is, in fact the point, then flying the guys over business class for a week of light training and classroom sessions with the kids would have made sense to me.

That's preferable to having Dyer, the next gen Christie, and the other kids there.

If the U 20's are as good as NZF seem to think then how come only Wynne has got a contract to play after the U20 WC? We seem to be putting a lot of faith in some very unproven players ( both at club and national level).

I just worry that when the inevitable happens NZF will say that they have blooded players for the next cycle. That's a cop out.

I smell a rat here as far as Mynamar goes.

They are playing away in Kuwait in a World Cup qualifier on Friday morning NZT before playing the All Whites on Monday evening NZT.

That seems crazy scheduling for their team.

Not much recovery time after a tough away game in Kuwait and flight back to Mynamar.

I suspect they will field their A team in the World Cup qualifier and a B or u-23 team vs. the All Whites.

I don't want to be a doubting Thomas and I'm no word Smith but we don't have Wood for this type of game.

It is a little sad that we still can't field a squad of professional footballers - if you don't have a contract by 20, you shouldn't be in the squad -

otherwise where's my boy Clapham - we always need a good carrot for every casserole of nonsense.

I wouldn't mind watching him play...it'd be like watching the Expendables 4, NZ Football edition...do at least as well as the next 9 year old who gets a cap against Laos 'C'... actually surprised he hasn't shown up in South Africa or something...almost all the other players of his generation seem to be...

Here is my take on the upcoming game

Also have sorted the issue with mobile devices where the text was coming up white on a white background

Has there been any word on TV coverage for the game yet?

I argee.. But Siggy, Nelsen, barron (and a few others) were not pros at 20..  clapham could have gone pro but obviously never tried. Not looking outside of the ALeague amd ASB was his own fault.

Have to say that I dont find very much interest in this game at all. Myanmar is not what we should be aiming for. In fact I would be more interested in a home game against Fiji. At least we would get a decent number of Fijian supporters turning up to watch the game if it was played in Auckland.  I find it quite staggering that we are unable to find a game against a more "interesting" opposition.

In a very short time we have gone from being in the middle of a really promising era of football in NZ to feeling like we are in the middle of a really bad rut.

Agree with this 100 per cent.

Usually the counter argument is it comes down to finances and that by playing these games in Asia makes it easier for the Woods of this world to make it.

The woods of this world are not coming and I would be very surprised if the old Burma are paying us a truck load of money.

Paying for the Fiji team to fly Bula class down here would be more economical and allow us to see our team

Well we now have a different draw path so expect the next window to be a game against a team in South America where we get shafted harder than a plastic fudge doll.

Can't say I buy in to the angst about Wood not playing. It's Myanmar for christs sake, and as Big Pete has alluded to it's actually more likely to be the Myanmar under 23 team. Do you think Hudson would be able to say to Wood with a straight face that it was desperately important that he be there? Add to that the fact that NZF doesn't exactly have the moral high-ground at the moment credibility-wise.

I think it's smart of Hudson not to dig his heels in over this one. If having some flexibility builds better relationships with more senior players then I think that's worth it.

That squad might be a casserole of nonsense but this game is a casserole of nonsense as well.

Fair point, but if that's the case, why did Hudson come out and tell the press it was frustrating that he couldn't pick a full strength team?

Also don't really think there is that much angst about Wood not playing (apart from Hudson) more angst as to why we are even playing Myanamar in the first place!
