Chris James has signed with someone now I beleive.

I think it was a Danish club perhaps???

Elliot has been badly injured for a while but is returning this month (see latest fever podcast) and Mulligan is on loan at Grimsby but contracted to Sc**thorpe.

Brent Fisher is injured too, which is probably why he's not figured too much for the AWs under Ricki.  As for James I understand that he's about to sign for a big Danish club.

if you havent listened to the podcast, which is a crime by the way, then you have surely at least read the interview with elliot in the features section, the first question being about his injury - http://www.yellowfever.co.nz/show-news.asp?ID=1263 he's had rancid luck basically, starting with bad injury pre-season last year, and has been getting misdiagnosed and operated on continuously since then. i think they have sorted the problem now but its a case of building up strength in both achilles after the ops.

Talking about the all whites, Have they ever had a free kick specialist. And as some-1 pointed out to me that the AW have never had a playing style to call there own. (Asian teams =fast, Aus is defend+counter, Brazil=attacking etc)

Hard to call him a specialist as he's never scored for the AW's or Perth!

What position does Mulligan play for the AW`s?.

It looked like he was in midfield, but he's deployed as a defender by Sc**thorpe - though he has played in both central and wide midfield for them when needed.

The All Whites have always had a playing style to call their own. Unfortunately it's reasonably ineffective and runs through the vast majority of NZ soccer. It's the long ball...
Pretty much defend and try to absorb the pressure then boot it up and hope one of our strikers (who are generally pretty quick, like Coveny was) latch onto it. It was painfully evident during that first match against Fiji. We won, but damn it was ugly.

Fortunately the Phoenix has broken this mold, at least to an extent!

Ive noticed  Ricki Herbert likes to play the Nix`s  using a 3-5-2 system - Its a good formation for attack/counter attack - But u really need to work the offside trap or have 3 very good defenders.

So if Mulli played in that formation i take it he would be a on the wing.

I think we've almost completely broken the mold at least for us anyway. I remember a bit of long ball happening way back start of season against Melbourne. Wasn't pretty and didn't work and we've learnt our lesson I hope. If Felipe and Daniel can become citizens here and inject a bit of Brazillian flair into the All Whites we'll be talking then!

Linesy could play in a swamp and still put the ball on a 10c piece.

Who was he last playing for here in NZ. I have a sneaky suspicion it was with Lee Jones and Central??

What ever happened to Scott Smith as well?

MArk Burton. Didn't head to Canada? I would have thought when he got his 3 year monster deal from the Kingz and didn't deliever, he would have had the courtesy to retire?

You are probably right. My memory of it (hazy) was that he played well in the first year and under performed in the last 2. Apologies if I am wrong.

You are partially right. After the first couple of seasons his game turned rather crap.

But i'm sure he won player of the year in the first year. HN will know.

Three for me, and two for them.
