That would be awesome... and with the inconsistency of the current England team you just never know what might happen (he says just as he finds out England's result from this morning
...)
...)
However, what value would be in it from England's point of view? Especially at Wembley, the All Whites are hardly a big draw card suiting a 100,000 capacity stadium.
That said, hope this rumour turns out to be true

just heard noah hickey on the radio saying how good it would be for new zealand football if true? so could be pretty strong rumors if players are talking about it - as for what value it is for england, not alot but maybe they are helping out an old friend

Fair enough... they did play Trinidad this year I suppose, just hope if this goes ahead we can put up a better showing than them...

T & T was down to dodgy Jack Warner.
...but that may provide a key, what about if you were bidding for a World Cup in say, oh I don't know, 2018 ? You know there are eleven votes in Oceania (one more than in South America)and reckon you can see a way to them by helping out Oceania's Confeds Cup qualifiers...

What, and SA didn't play politics (as well as all other previous hosts)? Hardly peculiar to the Brits.

haven't heard a word of this until seeing this thread but my opinion is that if we do play England it won't be at Wembley, too big for a game against a team ranked 111th in the world
You know we belong together...

OK. Of course, that took ages innit.
Well, Wembley here we come then...

Renovated? Demolished. And then a new stadium built. A bit more than a renovation!

Brighton Fans know these things (except that theirs hasn't been really rebuilt yet!)

We start construction later this year. It has taken over 10 years to get planning permission.

This would be great for me as I live in Brent (the Wembley Council) and two stops away on the tube, but based on England's last performance and the fact that trinadad actually went to the last world cup says that England must be quietly very affraid of Australia's 2018 bid (it has recieved abit of media attention here) to offer this game to us, which would see the AWs on yet another hiding to nothing.

Is that a Leeds flag on your avatar discomart? And from your post, it sounds like the FA have offered the fixture?

HN definitely has a point about the support for bids - won't be the first time the English FA have done this. If this was the reason, NZFA would probably want the game down here to guarantee their support - and fill the coffers in return.
How about All Whites V England at the ROF?!
If only.....

Well to be honest, the Australian bid is much more attractive as New Zealand likely co-host with a group pool or two. There would be only so many cities in Australia to stage a pool group. Are there 12 cities in australia that could do that. It is FIFA policy to have one pool group to one city, i think.
After 2002, FIFA said they would never co-host again. However, they have given conflicting messages over the last couple of years in the build-up to the 2014 hostng decision. If NZ and AU did co-host, it would be historic given the two different zones.

There are some rumours that because Adelaide and Perth may not have stadia to FIFA Standards to meet the World Cup bid. That New Zealand will co-host with Australia.

Even if Australia got 2018 rather than 2022, that's still enough time to build enough adequate stadiums. Adelaide have already started planning a rectangular 40K+ stadium, and the moveable-seating WA Stadium proposal would almost certainly be up to scratch.
That being said, I hope you're right

Is that for 2022 or 2018, I wonder? It's just that in May Blatter said:

"As the next two World Cups will be in the southern hemisphere, it is perhaps logical that Australia concentrates on the 2022 tournament. "

Out of interest, how many stadiums can Australia offer?
Thinking out loud.... Sydney x 2, Melbourne x 2, Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth... I must be missing some, but they need 10 don't they?

EnergyAustralia Stadium is about to be upgraded to 40K IIRC.
Might be able to cut a deal with the AFL for multi-use stadiums in AFL expansion targets ie Darwin, Tasmania (when the Hawks eventually leave Melbourne for good), Gold Coast (unless Skilled can be upgraded) etc

Newcastle? But if that stadium is deemed too small for the A-League Final how can it qualify for use at the World Cup? Or is it not the one used by the Jets? (Excuse my ignorance of Australian stadia) SiNZ2008-09-29 17:53:00

EA Stadium, as it is now, is too small for both the final and for the World Cup.
EA Stadium, expanded to at least 40K, would be big enough for both.
The fact that they missed out on hosting the final is one of the big reasons the Jets are pushing for the upgrade IIRC.

We're talking ten (or more) years away... there'll be a lot of development yet... even if it means four "Westfield" Stadiums have to be built to get the cup finals... old mate won't be pissin about lol
